Big Zip
Well as predicted by many on this board the MAC East and MAC in general seem to be in a down year. With Temple manhandling (I never thought I would type those two words in succession) Miami yesterday if Akron wins out they win the MAC East. It seems highly improbable they could do so given their erratic play this year, but I must say the bye week couldn't have come at a better time. The ability to circle the wagons and regroup heading into the most significant part of your schedule could prove to be the difference if we can get consistent play from both sides of the ball. The Buffalo game is going to be critical this week. Has anyone had an opportunity to see Buffalo play? How are they doing it -- as Cap'n said in a previous post this not what was expected of this team. I heard Tony Kornheiser even reference Turner Gill in relation to replacing Bill Calahan at Nebraska not that Tom Osborne is back in the fold. What is it going to take for Akron to run the table in this conference? Is it simply to early for this team to compete given the inexperience on the offensive side of the ball? Has the topsy turvy beginning of this season provided them with enough real game experiences and interesting situations such that they can parlay that to their advantage in the second half.....what do you all put the odds of the Zips finishing the season on top the MAC East. I'm putting the percentage at 20%. We never play well at Miami and freak things just seem to happen -- Big Ben and Travis Prentiss are two things that come to mind when I think of games down there. ZachTheZip
Buffalo gets it done on he ground. Their RB is very underrated. Stuff the box and we should win.
skip-zip
We still controlled our own destiny, even before Miami lost this weekend. The head-to-head matchups with Bowling Green, Buffalo, and Miami will decide our fate. Unfortunately, ALL of those games are on the road. The head-to-head tie breakers that come along with those victories are also going to be very important as well.
johnnyzip84
Drew Willy is a pretty good QB, whose forte seems to be the short passing game. We better tackle well in the open field on those dumpoffs, because the Bulls seem to rarely go downfield with the ball. They have an EXCELLENT punter, and a very mediocre placekicker. I agree that the week off should be an overall positive for the Zips. Hopefully guys like Nate, Grant, and Jabari will be at full strength, because we'll need big games out of each of these guys. As far as winning out in the MAC East goes, I give it about a 25% chance. BG will be very tough at home, in spite of their erratic play of late. The interesting thing about Miami is that they are already playing many back-ups. I think they are on something like their 4th team RB. They could be one more injury away from imploding. Hopefully we'll take these games, like the old cliche, one at a time.
