Guest ***GUEST_Z.I.P.
Well, the first signees are announced today on GoZips.com and we have a 6-7 forward from West Allis WI. Go Zips indeed! Inside info, I take it. BUT -- has Mr Eargle (sp?) backed out, or is the letter just held up between his prep school in S.Caro. and Ohio? We'll see in the days to come. let's hope we got three in the ESP (early signing period).
Guest Jburton
oddly enough the press release announcing the addition of 6-5 Jimmy Conyers plainly states that Akron is done with thier recruiting class. This probably means that Terrell Eargle will not be joining the Zips. Hard to say what the whole story is, but it looks like Conyers is the better prospect by a long shot. I'd hate to think that Keith Dambrot just dumped one kid when he found somebody better. Try this link: Athletic wing still sleeping “He’s really explosive and just gets off the floor,†Regala said. “That first step of his is tough and he has a knack for getting the ball off at the top of his jumper in the air. His body control, though, rivals the kids in college. He has the body that can compete at that level. When you see Jimmy play, you have to wonder why he’s not ranked. If he played in one of the All-American camps, I really believe he’d be ranked in the top 50.†
Guest ***GUEST_Z.I.P.
Thanks for the report J. I have the following to add. My research and sources tell me that while UA may be done with their fall recruiting, there's still the possibility of Mr Eargle being picked up during the Spring signing period -- if we have an open scholarship. There's some truth to your comments, but it needs elaboration. Conyers is indeed a superb hidden gem recruit, who has the quickness, athleticism (he's bulked up by 20-25 lbs since last year) and work ethic to fit well in the new up-tempo Akron attack. I've heard Georgetown may have offered him in the Spring, but he wanted to end the suspense now. The fact that J Conyers was able to supplant Eargle is an indication that Akron is now competing for recruits with the big boys. Eargle, if we don't get him in the Spring, will land with another D-1 program. He's a good player. And here's a hint of action to come: UA women's coach Kelly Kennedy will officially announce, as soon as Monday, the singing of four recruits, including a possible breakout post player from Minnesota. More information to come tomorrow. Stay tuned.
