Men's Soccer RPI

Recommended Posts

We should know from how last season ended that the regular season championship means very little. Yes, it can be archived as an accomplishment and gives us an advantage in the MAC Tournament; however, if we don't win the MACC, we will end up getting screwed in the NCAA Tournament selection process. I believe we have the resume' to receive an at-large bid although we probably won't get a decent seed if we aren't MACCs. :champs: Congratulations UA Men's Soccer!...Keep the momentum going!

Difference is, last year our RPI was in the 40s, hence no at-large bid. While it is better safe than sorry and I think they will win the whole thing, I think the committee would have a hard time keeping out the No. 12 RPI team since that is what they weight the most.In any case, congrats to Caleb and the boys. That makes Caleb 2-for-2 in MAC regular season championships.

If I understand correctly, RPI is just as important in the soccer tournament selection process as it is in basketball. I'm cautiously optimistic about getting a home game in the tournament, but even winning out doesn't guarantee that our RPI will go up... beating lousy opponents is just as detrimental (if not moreso) to a team's RPI as losing to good ones, and our remaining schedule doesn't feature anyone who will help us out. Can't wait for next Friday... and I hope it turns out to be another crack at NIU!!!!!

If anything, it is MORE basic to the soccer committee than it is to basketball, because the Sagarin is the ONLY RPI for soccer, while basketball has several floating around with different mathematical quotients. It is good to see we have a voice on the committee in Mary-Lu Gribschaw. That is another legacy of our former administration.

The NCAA published it's new RPI table today and Akron is unchanged at No. 12. I think this bodes well for NCAA tournament seeding (assuming they get things done this weekend in the MAC tourny) despite the fact that they dropped to No 18 in the Soccer Times poll. They actually rose a step, to No 16, in the College Soccer News poll.On a related note, Ohio State beat Indiana in the Big Ten tourny and now carry an RPI rating of 4th.
