Guest ***GUEST_Z.I.P.
I was somehow thinking the first round was on neutral sites (would have been @IU), but instead we have to go back to Ann Arbor, after receiving a late-season shellacking there on Oct 29, 4-0. Fortunately for us however, Michigan is just a so-so opponent, one which has scored more than 2 goals in just 2 games this season (4-0 vs UA, 4-0 vs BGSU). Michigan, host of last week's Big-10 tournament entered the league championships as only the 7th seed, and was forced to defeat #2 seed Ohio State in the first round to advance. They were knocked off in the semis by Northwestern, which won the tournament and makes their first ever trip to the NCAAs. U of M had a fine start to their season, winning their first six games, but then had a streak of seven games with just one win in the middle of the season. Some will remember the Wolverines coming to Lee Jackson Field late last year on a 4-game win-streak, and with a #11 national ranking, the first in the team's then four-year history. The Zips emerged victorious on a second half Kirk Harwat goal for a 2-1 triumph. This game could be played either Friday or Saturday. Announcement should come in a day or two. Hopefully Friday, so fans can make it back for Saturday futball americano. Winner plays the defending national champs on Tuesday in Bloomington, IN. Screwed by committee. Big Ten committee. Zipsrifle
Just down the road from where I work. What time is the game, I might have to leave a little early to cheer on the Zips? I don't know anything about Soccer though. Is it OK to be very obnoxious like I am at football games?
Z.I.P.
Hope you got to make the game Rifler. Ken's kids gave it their all, but it's a damn tough deal to have to go into a Big Ten school and win in the NCAA tourney. We will be the pre-season MAC favorites (though Kentucky will be tough again, and WMU and NIU strong as well) in 2005, but Lolly and Co. have some work to do in the recruiting area to make up for about half the starting roster that leaves after this year. We need some big legs up front. Is there another Kirk Harwat waiting in the wings? For those interested: Next week the UAM will be selling a MAC Champions T-shirt. Get 'em while they last. Zipsrifle
Didn't get to the game....it was raining and I just figured they would reschedule to match to Saturday. Honestly, I don't know squat about soccer except that you kick the ball and that you score by putting it through a goal. I didn't think they played in the rain. Even if I knew, I guess you can call me a fair weather soccer fan. I don't think I would sit in the rain for a soccer match.....sorry guys. Well, good job this season guys, if it's not raining next year and you're at UofM, I'll probably show up. Ya know, I bet they play at Eastern, I'll have to make the trip there too. Z.I.P.
Sorry Rifle, but EMU doesn't have a men's team (neither do Miami, Ball U, CMU or Toledo, which is why Kentucky plays in the MAC). The closest you might come is if coach Katie Byrne's Zip women play in Ypsilanti. You can say "Erin go bragh" to the former Irish national player. Notice the green face.
