zipboy
I can't believe that I got the first rifle post in! 2 straight years beating columbus state.
Zipsrifle
Yup, ya beat my first post. I KNOW that there wasn't any sarcasm in that post....right? My boys and girls have worked hard this year and I'm glad to see that success has come their way. We've been inching closer and closer to an invite to the NCAA championships over the last 6-7 years. Coach has really got some shooters on the team this year! Keep up the good work Guys and Gals!
RifleBusDriver
Kind of new at this and feel like I am going where I have not been before, (kind of trekish for those who know me). However, this is a big week for Akron Rifle. Some things we will find out this week. 1) We know the team will not qualify for NCAA's, but I have some inside information that we may have 1 or 2 individuals who may get an invite. 2) An announcement should be made today or tomorrow as to who will get the invite to go to MIT for the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference, (the other MAC) championships. 3) Friday the bus driver will take the team to Purdue for the WIRC championships and if all goes well, we could win it all for both guns. So all in all, a pretty exciting week. As hard as these kids have been working, it feels REAL good to see them getting rewarded.
zipboy
I admit that I don't know much about rifling, but anyone that beats ohio state deserves our backing. I am kind of curious, how does the post season work, etc?
Zipsrifle
Basically there isn't really a playoff. Each team shoots in a sectional match. For Collegiate shooting there are 2 diciplines per match, Smallbore Rifle and Air Rifle. For Smallbore they shoot 22's in the standing, kneeling, and prone positions. For Air they shoot Air Rifles, standing only. So for the NCAA Championships you can qualify for either Smallbore and/or Air. I also think that they take a certain number of individuals if their scores are high enough. For the team this year, I think the sectional matches were on Feb. 14th. Then they take the top 8 schools for each dicipline from the matches shot on that day. Then those teams shoot in one match for the NCAA Champions. From what I saw on gozips.com, their scores were a little lower than the team average this year so we probably won't make it. But the bus driver hinted that there might be some individuals who have a chance. I have to say that OSU is probably one of biggest rivals. They have a lot more money thrown their way and the name seems to pull in some shooters also. Akron's Coach has done a great job of building up stronger teams every year. The thing that gets me pumped is that there are no Seinors on the team this year according to gozips.com so we bring everyone back from what already looks to be the best UA team ever!
