bigzipguy Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 I don't think anyone can state too strongly how important it is to get that #3 seed. If Zips beat Buffalo and Miami can win at home Sat vs OU, then Zips would have a 2 game lead over the Bobcats. Then a win vs Can't at the end would give Zips 3 seed regardless of what Zips do at Athens. Quote
skip-zip Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 bigzipguy....good analysis. It would be comforting to know that we didn't HAVE to win the OU road game and the Can't game to get the #3. Better yet, do you know if we'd win the tiebreaker over OU?? If so, our win over Buffalo, and a OU loss to Miami would actually CLINCH the #3 seed for us. Quote
bigzipguy Posted February 26, 2008 Author Report Posted February 26, 2008 Pretty sure we loose tie-breaker VS OU, based on the fact that OU beat WMU and Zips lost to them. Quote
Zipper10 Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Just because they beat W. Michigan they get the tie breaker? What about the Toledo game? We beat Toledo and OU lost and we beat E. Mich and they lost to them along with us beating BG and they lost to them. But on the other hand they beat N. Ill and central Mich. The only way to solve this potential tie breaker for sure is to just beat them in Athens and take the series 2-0.and how bout the flushes getting the first ranking for a MAC team since Ball State in 2001Unfortunately Congrats is due to them on getting the 23rd rank...It does the MAC well when they lose to us in the MAC championshipMaybe we can get two teams in the Tourney nowGo Zips!! Agent Zero Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 OU has the tiebreaker over Can't too don't they? Quote
jeaglet1 Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 MAC Tie-breaker procedures ==> http://mac-sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...p;ATCLID=741859A. Head-to-head competitionIn the above scenarios, (OU vs. Akron and OU vs. Can't) this would be a tie, assuming OU wins in Athens. If they dont this is all moot anyway. B. Winning percentage* vs. ranked conference teams (top to bottom, regardless of division, vs. common opponents regardless of the number of times played)So in the OU vs. Akron scenario, it would go to vs. #1 Can't, OU is 1-1 against Can't, Akron 0-1, so if Akron doesnt beat Can't, they lose the tie breaker. If they do... the second tie breaker would be vs. #2 western Michigan, OU beat them, Akron did not, so OU would win the tie breaker.OU vs. Can't is a lot tougher, they both beat WMU, if they tie, they would both have split with the Zips. OU would win the tie breaker since they would have swept miami and Can't would lsoe to them. Unless Eastern Michigan finihed higher than Miami in the standings. Either way, OU winning out and Can't losing out just isnt going to happen.*Winning percentage is used instead of record because of situation where teams do not play each other the same number of times. Therefore, a team that is 1-0 (1.000) would win the tiebreaker over a team that is 1-1 (.500). Quote
