GoZips.com has a fresh new article concerning changes to the Out Of Conference schedule. As predicted by a few the ARMY game has been moved to 2005. Better still is the announcement of a fresh home-n-home series in 2007 & 2008 with ARMY. Better than even that is a two-for-one deal with KENTUCKY with the Zips home game sandwiched between visits to Lexington. That insures the contract will be honored.

The only sore point I could see is 2008, a twelve game season, where the Zips travel to WISCONSIN, SYRACUSE and KENTUCKY the first three games of the season. That's brutal. The first home game is ARMY.

The schedule now extends into 2011 with a visit back to Columbus. This I like. Would love to have Michigan State back on the schedule. A couple of soft ACC teams would be a nice Christmas present as well.

It all looks brutal..

I hope maybe MT can convince Syracuse to trade 2008 with 2009 or 2010...

It would balance out better and guarantee the Orangemen come to Akron.

The Zips are trying to step it up... the MAC and the Zips are heading in the right direction.

MT is getting 2 for 1's just like Toledo, Miami, BGSU etc..

OU had a 2 for 1 with Kentucky -- now we do. MT should be commended  and should keep burning up the phone lines. There are a lot of second tier BCS schools who are willing to listen now that the MAC has some national recognition/exposure.

Indiana, Rutgers, UConn etc...

We finally have a real coach, a team that plays hard, some facilities and names we recognize on the schedule -- And, can you believe it? They will come here to play...

Now build the stadium -- the program needs the final piece of the puzzle!!! :thumb:

So which schools are no longer on the list? I can think of only No. Texas St and Utah State. I thought NTSU was a home-and-home, and USU had already been downgraded from 2 to one game -- now 0.

I wish the admin would rethink the decision to play within a narrow geographic range. Getting further away from home will only extend the shadow of the university and help bring recruits -- both athletically and academically. If soccer can play on the West Coast, for example, why not the football team -- or other sports? At one time Akron FB played games @New Mexico and @Oregon State. Of course we were starting out as independents in 1-A then, but the games were competitive (beat UNM, led OSU at the half I think).

Part of the building up of a school's image and self-image is to extend your reach to new areas. Limiting your athletic reach tends to build upon the belief that you aren't good enough to play on the road far from home. We don't have to believe that. No need to limit oneself to places like Logan UT either. How about the state of Colorado, for example? Ever been there? ;)

Finally? Thanks for showing up this season, but THE BOSS has been scheduling bigtime for his entire tenure here.........look at 2002.

BTW, we'll arrange for you to meet some of the guys from the old teams who didn't play hard. They'll enjoy the opportunity to shake your hand.

Z-P.. what are you a former player?? Did I hurt your feelings??

I've been a season ticket holder since Faust so don't start with me about showing up this year... I've seen many a Zips team mail it in over the years  . JD has these guys well-conditioned (they actually play four quarters for a change) and he really has a gameplan each week.. He adjusts to game situations well too.. :thumb:

Z-P, even you have to admit that previous 1A squads played at a lower level than this year's team. We had some good years under Dennison at 1AA, but Faust and Owens never lit a fire and you always wondered when the team would implode each game.

Our opponents would just sit back and wait for us to make mistakes -- penalties, turnovers and the like. We used to beat ourselves more than our opponents did... Not so with JD Ball...

I'll give you your point on the schedule..Partially. Yes, MT has been scheduling Big Time -- but only on the road --we have had to play those schools at their place with no possibility of a return game -- what I'm referring to is the fact that MT has been able to get a couple of those schools on the Big Time Schedule to come to Akron (This is a good thing -- proof of where Akron and MAC Football has come in the last few years)...

I know I would certainly rather watch Army, Kentucky or Syracuse than Cal Poly, Howard, Temple or the other CYO teams we played at home in previous seasons. I'm guessing here, but I'd bet there will be some good sized crowds for these games. Even casual football fans around NE Ohio might come out to watch the Cadets, Wildcats and Orangemen..

As for the "guys from the old teams who played hard."

I'd be happy to shake their hands.

Maybe I should have said "Play Smart." There's a big difference between "playing hard" and playing smart. For example, how many Personal Fouls :iws: called on the Zips this year??? Faust and Owens teams would get at least 3 to 4 per game :wall: ... JD has brought discipline to this team. Case Closed.

If you prefer the past, your welcome to it.... :D

I, for one, am not looking back...:rock:
