Big Zip Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 mean Kennedy is shown the door? How low are the expectations for her? Is there a chance for her to lose her job - does anyone care? Quote
Guest HoopsManiac Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Big Zip, I definitely care, and I think that January 19 might be the first chance the Zips have to win a game although Bucknell graduated some very good players from last season. That would put them at 0-15 prior to their game vs. Buffalo. When you continue to play 13 or so players each game praying that they'll do something there isn't going to be too many marks in the W column. It's embarassing for the program and although I don't think Coach Kennedy has to worry about being fired prior to her 5 year contract expiration I sure wish they would. If you can't win after 2 years of very positive recruiting then there is something to be said of her teaching and motivation ability. I'm very near the end of my rope on supporting women's basketball which needs all the fans they can get looking at the attendance the past few years. Quote
Guest Hello Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Two years of positive recruiting? Who positively recruits on 3 wins in two seasons. According to the Beacon Journal two years ago Kennedy was saddled with -0- scholarships to give of her first year. Two years ago she recruited a pair of JUCOS for immediate help and they have been busts. As with the men's team and last year's fiasco this some times happens. Given the state of Zip women's basketball when she took over any sane person would not expect a two year turnaround. If this program is going strong at the end of next season I will be happy. Until then I will withold judgement. Quote
Big Zip Posted December 21, 2004 Author Report Posted December 21, 2004 I could appreciate your post more if this team hadn't lost to a Div. II team Ashland in the preseason - and Robert Morris, IPFW and Yougstown State. This team isn't even a good Div. II team. The reason Roxanne Allen lost her job was because she couldn't recruit Div. I talent -- I'm starting to wonder if Kennedy can. Funny thing is she was the recruiter for her previous school. Quote
Guest HoopsManiac Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 First things first, please get your facts straight because in the past two seasons she has won 9 games not 3. Also, if you look at who she has signed for next season you will realize it's in the top 6 in the conference as far as ranking goes. Don't even try to compare who she has recruited to Roxanne Allen's recruits because it's not even possible. DIII transfers and less, compared to players that have been named players of the year in their individual states. Hopefully I miss understood the previous posting as far as that goes. With that said, I do agree that there is no way she should be 0-10 at this point. You've lost to some teams that are well below average and have continued to lose fans and Akron supporters with the losses. I'm not sure you can even seat any less people for home games and still charge admission. When you have players that are not improving from one year to the next and even over a 4 year period i.e. Cydney Overton with 3 of those seasons under Kennedy you begin to worry more about her ability to motivate, instruct, and coach the game of basketball. I have no doubt that she can recruit but as far as teaching the game she might as well try and teach some foreign language and might have more success. Anyhow..................someone give us some help so we can atleast get one W under our belt. Otherwise I guess I'll just have to stop wasteing my time and they'll have 1 less fan listening in or in the stands. Quote
