FromdaBurgh
Hey one and all...My husband sent me this link talking about the MAC Conference expanding to 14...included is adding Temple and Western Kentucky...check it out...http://blog.mlive.com/fireupchips/2008/05/...to_14_team.html
Big Zip
If Western Kentucky and Temple were both full members I think it would do a lot for basketball, but it would certainly make scheduling more difficult. What I'm afraid will happen is Temple will stay in football and Western Kentuck will join for basketball -- which I think is moving the conference in the wrong direction. Adding part-time members here and there is not the right answer.
ZachTheZip
Having Temple in the MAC for basketball would be a nice boost. WKU seems like they would do well in the MAC West for basketball, but terrible for football. WKU doesn't really for the MAC academic profile, nor do they provide any type of media market, but I guess our options are limited when trying to find schools to balance out the conference in football. WKU has consistently contended in the 1-AA (FCS whatever) playoffs, and they faired pretty well in their "transition" season last year (7-5). I see NO reason why they would not be competetive in the MAC from the outset.
ZachTheZip
Adding part-time members here and there is not the right answer.I agree, but it is already something that is happening, and on a larger scale than just Temple in Football. There are actually currently four schools that are part-time MAC Affiliates: Temple with Football, Hartwick with Men's Soccer, Missouri State with Field Hockey, and Chicago State with Men's Tennis. In the past, UCF was football only from 2001-2004 if you remember, and Louisville was in the MAC for Field Hockey only a few years ago, even winning two conference titles. I know that none of them have nearly as high a profile as the Temple situation does right now, but that fact remains that the MAC is more than willing to bring in schools to play only one sport. johnnyzip84
Just looking over some future football schedules made me think of a wild nominee for potential MAC expansion. The typical Ohio resident's affinity towards the Myrtle Beach area is well known. How about inviting the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers to become MAC members? Throw in either Fla Atlantic or Fla International and we'd had a couple of nice road destinations As evident in this year's NCAA baseball tourney, the Chants (gotta love that name) have an excellent baseball program, a decent basketball program and an up-and-coming FCS football program. We can get a close look at them next year (2009) when Can't hosts them in the 1st game of the year. OK, so maybe it's far fetched. It still might be fun to get CCU jerseys and wear them over Zip gear and go root for them in Dix stadium, because of course
