What does the future hold

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the plans for Central Hower High School? I believe the school was closed in 2005/2006 and has been reopened as the temporary East HS while construction is completed on the new East. Are there plans to re-open Central Hower after the renovation of the Akron Public School district or will it be shuttered after renovations are complete? If it is to be shuttered, what the chances UofA purchases the property for future expansion (or just to knock it down)?

Central Hower is still owned and utilised by APS. We won't even have a chance to aquire it until the entire school construction project is completed, which means we have to wait for every school in the city to be re-done. That could take at least a decade.

I'm just reaffirming what UAkronkid stated; The current rebuilding or building new schools project in Akron is at this point as part of the12 year project and the project is approximately 25% complete. Central-Hower is being used as a swing school for the the high schools while a high school is being redone. At this time, East is utilizing the CH complex. Within 18 months to 2 years, Buchtel will be using CH while a new high school is being built on the current Buchtel site on Copley Rd. After that, it is anyones guess as to what school will be occupying CH.Currently the building and land are still owned by APS and they will continue to own it until the building project is complete.

Back in I believe in 1998 there was a deal pending for APS to sell CH to the U of A. It was nixed by the ABOE not because of money ($4 MILLION), but because the was an uproar of furor by alumni from CH. At that time, they didn't feel as if there was a need to close CH.

I heard someone was going to buy it for about $3M and turn it into a bar and coffee/tea shop.
is that a joke?
yes, a bad attempt at humor in reference to the eminent domain decision. I believe the U. will buy it eventually tho for dorms or academics.
