ZachTheZip
http://cfn.scout.com/2/769011.htmlThe answer: not that much. There are 65 teams in the BCS. There are 55-non BCS teams. If you were fair, the answer would be around 45%.Reading some of their comments, it seems like the biggest reason they ignore us is lack of interest. It's a cycle. They don't run stories, so people don't know to be interested, and then they point to the lack of interest as the reason they don't write stories. We can reverse that cycle and have it work the other way, as well.Generate pageviews for what little stories we do have written about our team. Write in to the authors more. Comment on other stories, and somehow try to relate them to the Zips. Basically, show them we care.Knowing how the print/internet media works, I cannot express the importance of commenting on stories if they allow it. Don't just read it and then move on. Generate discussion on their page instead of just on here. It's how they judge reader interest, and whether it is worth it to write more stories. They are a business, and we have to make it worth their while. I know that seems unfair, but it's the only way they will notice.Of course, we will always be at a disadvantage, since the BCS are able to negotiate for more TV media coverage, which creates more "fans", which starts a cycle of growth. But we can close the gap slightly. UA could try to negotiate a contract to pick up all of our non-televised home games on a local channel, such as WVPX. It would give more of a sense of legitimacy to the program, since people think "big time" means having all your games on TV. It would be awesome to have that happen as the new stadium opens, to show it off to all the people who couldn't get in when it sells out the first few games. zen
The best solution:Become a BCS regular, and then we can be snotty and not care about the peon non-BCS schools. It's not impossible, it's just improbable. If it was impossible, then that would indicate a rigged conspiracy, in which case legal action would be warranted against fraud, racketeering, and monopoly. Why give people another excuse to stay home on a cold, dreary night at the end of November?I can also see another scenario like last year where the end of the UA-Can't game was cut short in the closing minutes when the game was yet to be decided to make way for OSU pregame. Just imagine an overtime conference game or a close out-of-conference game against a big opponent being cut off to make way for Archie Bunker on All in the Family. ...you want to talk about DECREASING legitimacy to a program that did and would do it, respectively. You should have seen the bees nest the TV station stirred up when they did that.
Zipsrifle
Yea, I think they under estimated how much Can't and Akron fans hate each other. This is a BIG local game that has heated up in the past decade and they simply underestimated this. It will probably be televised this year and I doubt they will cut it off.
