tim123
I watched another terrible effort from Rodgers, if the coaches have any brains they need to make a decision. Rodgers is a smart young man and he can run the ball but he can not throw the ball. If they do not make a change at QB we will not have a chance to compete. He actually dropped two balls out of his hand before passing and fumbled. WOW! If they don't change things they deserve there demize. Nicely has all the intangibles, size ,brains and big arm who actually looks like a QB. Good Luck Zips!!

He had a great pass to Bowser that was dropped, and when the coaches had him throwing downfield at the end of the game he made some really nice passes. Both touchdowns were scored by him running. Does he have things he needs to improve on? Yes. I understand it was crappy weather but you can't keep dropping the ball like that. On the plus side he threw 0 interceptions vs. a very good CMU defense compared to 4 against Indiana last week. Those short little dump passes were absolutely terrible, but then again, why are the coaches calling the same plays that have him throwing to receivers behind the line of scrimage? Regardless of whether they catch them or not the play isn't going to net any yardage. Why call for Rodgers head when the playcalling and O-line both drastically need to improve? bandzip
Wow! did you watch the same game Mrs. RodgersApparently you didn't watch the same game, Mrs. Nicely.FYI, Rodger's passer efficiency rating for this game was 119.31, and that doesn't take into consideration the two touchdowns he ran for. What does that take into consideration? The 0 interceptions he threw. This game was lost by our defense, there's no doubt about that (they could have put up 55 points on us). It's nearly impossible to overcome that sort of point value. You also have to consider that we didn't just play any team. CMU is traditionally a good team. Do you remember what they did last week? Upset a Big 10 team come to mind? They are probably still playing off the high from that victory.Rodgers has some potential. Give this sophomore some time to develop (and get rid of all of those screens!) and you'll see more improvement on top of what we saw today. When you have a mobile quarterback like that you can't just bring 3-4 guys every single play. LeFevour had all day to pick a receiver and if he couldn't find one he'd run for the first down every time.

Look at the way he passes the ball, he's not the answer period. He looks to run first and can not throw the ball down the field Mrs. Rodgers

RootforRoo44
How can anyone honestly talk up Rodgers after witnessing that mess for two straight weeks? He is far from the reason we are losing but he certainly should not be starting. And i think that this is one time where the backup truly is more qualified for the job. Nicely is a future star, he has the intangibles, the size, and arm to be a D1 QB, Rodgers would be a backup to Carlton Jackson.
bUAkronG
Greatest idea ever.Fire JD. and look to ZNO for the next head coach. Obviously everyone here has D1 coaching experience and would be great for the job.

I would rather not subject him to this miserable offense. Let him learn and grow a year then see what he can do.
Dr Z
I would rather not subject him to this miserable offense. Let him learn and grow a year then see what he can do. Why? Best way to learn is to get in the game and play. The nice thing about our offense if you put Patrick in at QB, you get rid of the turnover machine that is Matt Rodgers, that should help the offense right there. I'm sure Patrick can throw a swing pass to the sidelines that isn't at the receivers feet every time. I bet he can throw a 25 yard pass over the middle that doesn't look like a wounded duck too. Looks like a full week of snaps for Matt didn't improve his QB skills. Wasn't there a JD quote in the spring that went something like this...Matt is really improving and coming along!?!? I watched the spring game this year and saw EXACTLY what I saw yesterday. I realize he is young and will get better, but if he is a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10, is he going to ever get to a 6 or a 7...maybe, but I want a QB who is a 7 that has 9 or 10 potential. ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
Agreed Dr Z. The season has become an unmitigated distaster. If Nicely is anything but horrible he should play right away. What better way to learn the offense, learn gameday speed of play, than to get his feet wet. Rodgers has been truly horrible so far. If Nicely loses his redshirt, so what? I find it hard to believe that anybody would rather watch yesterday's offense and QB play the rest of the season than take a look at the kid. If he loses his redshirt but plays well, and if the team is better, than the net effect is better play and a need to recruit a follow-on a year earlier. I just don't think that this is the time to worry about losing a kid 4 years from now instead of 5. STZI would rather not subject him to this miserable offense.
