  2. The Akron women's soccer team opens it's season tomorrow against Bryant. They're running some ticket promotions (taken from the team's twitter account), if anyone is interested in checking out the new coach's team. Should be a perfect night for soccer. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CM3JHOgW8AAQ6XI.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CMyCdtSUkAA2tP4.jpg

  3. If that's not an argument to shut down the Arts programs, I don't know what is.

  5. Wow that video is pretty bad. Childish. Not surprised ABJ would promote it though.

  6. Someone went to a lot of effort to make this you tube video. Get a better script writer. Not very clever.

  7. FTR, I have never met George on a face-to-face basis, but have interacted with him on numerous occasions over more than a twenty-year period. George worked in the athletic department as an undergrad when the UA men's bb team first tripped to my state in the early 1990s, and from that time on I have found his overall interest and ability in working with alums thousands of miles away to have been far beyond what might have been expected -- especially in comparison to certain other AD employees who simply couldn't care enough to even return an inquiry. I hope that he will stay at the UA, because frankly he does a great job at what he's doing right now, and that is terribly important to the institution. Universities like the U of A need alumni and leaders like George van Horn. And, right now, I think the selection committee made a great choice. I look forward to Mr Williams' numerous national connections creating an upgrade to many sports programs in the coming years. Welcome aboard, Larry!

  8. I have a few thoughts... 1) I hated that the NCAA made this ruling. I think it's a move to push all of the "non-big schools" aside. 2) The fact that we are going to do it shows that we want to try to remain competitive, and that's not bad news. It's an investment in making sure that we are out there recruiting athletes with the same "financial package" that others can offer. 3) It still sucks because it's something that was forced upon us, and we have no choice. 4) At least the NLRB "Unionization" ruling went our way the other day. Glad to see that someone believes that a Free College Education is a great deal to play a sport, and that setting the stage for college athletes to collect some of the money made by their schools is a horrible idea from a competitive standpoint.
