rh is an engineering school and after meeting their new coach they're kind of elitists.zipsrifle, their old coach stepped down and jason (who is a grad student there) took the job. from talking to jason he made it sound like the old coach was finished and instead of handing the team over to rotc he stepped up and became coach. now from what i was told by other people was that jason kinda got the team to not listen to the old coach and in turn pushed him out of the job. i'm not sure which is true, but after working with jason i can definitely see the latter happening...

If a D3 team stays within 20 points of a D1 team that is considered a moral victory.

Perhaps the MAC conference should consider talking to ESPN about making this game a Friday night affair.
Say what you will about fan support, but it is tough for those that work (and maybe even some students), to travel 2-3 hours to Detroit on a Thursday night.
agreed. i would have been there in a heart beat if i could have skipped classes. it was nice to see it on espn, and not some obscure cable channel that we don't get on campus though. i called home and had everyone back in oregon cheering as well.

although it was a bit of a confidence booster, i think it would be of a greater benefit to not play a d3 school.
i'm not trying to say that all d3s are below us because we are d1, because on every level there are teams that can play up and compete, but in this case...well look at the score
i must say that i was excited to watch the bence play. new faces given the chance to prove themselves.

The Rifle team soundly beat Rose-Hulman this past saturday at their place. RH's coach built a pretty darn good team over the past 10 years or so. I don't know if they are rebuilding or what, but the Zips took it to them, and didn't even have that impressive of scores.
actually they have a brand new coach this year. former shooter and the school's only all-american jason labella.

ABSOLUTELY NOT ZIPPYRIFLE32!!! You are not a soccer fan if you suggest playing soccer on the same field as football. Look at the mess Rhodes Area is, high school gym, square track (during track practices they open the door by the steps and started their runs by the walls ran through the door to the end of the track) and really useless courts. Guzzetta kept cutting down and insisting on a multi purpose facility which would up being what it is today, worst in the MAC. Thanks for the new field house.
If they put soccer in the stadium that is a SURE way of Coach Lolla moving on to another university. If you have gone to Buffalo, their stadium is, as of this year, used for soccer. Awful. They have s soccer field, but didn't want to put more money into, so they moved it to their stadium, which short changes the soccer team. In soccer, you really want to be close to the pitch. Major colleges don't combine their facility, look at the 15-20 mil soccer stadiums that have gone up in the Big Ten, ACC, Pac 10, Big East. We don't want to take a step back, so keep those thoughts and suggestions to yourself!
Go to a soccer match something, like maybe to Cary, North Carolina where the College Cup is being held next week end and you eyes and ears will be opened to really good soccer.
i am a soccer fan, but you bring up some points i didn't think about. i was just thinking it would be nice to get better seating for soccer as well. i'm excited about the stadium, and think it will boost attendence and school spirit.

i agree with hurrying up with the stadium, and put grass in it so that soccer can play in there as well. we'd get a lot more people in there, and with all the success we're having we'll be needing it.

damn straight! and while we wait to play the bowl game we can support our other winning team - men's soccer. what an awesome year...and this is just the fall sports. no telling what basketball can do or even some of the spring sports!

it is a sport, and you can't provide a proper argument to counter. don't bother trying...chances are you don't even understand what we do, and you'll come up with some lame "all you do is shoot rifles"

unlike the average college student, athletes aren't allowed to skip class, and if it wasn't for my match this weekend, i'd be in maryland cheering on yet another zip team that is going to win. SUCKA! all the shit you say doesn't change the fact that you're an asshole and the zips won!

I must admit that I am very disappointed at the fact that the rifle team webpage doesn't get updated. The pictures of the freshmen aren't even up! Come on people. Get on the ball.

that's too bad, but from my experiences here our academic advising for athletes is not doing a very good job. i know a lot of athletes they've messed up on.
