  1. It's true Akron's SOS last year was 190, but still 26 wins and they won their half of the conference of the regular season. That's why it was a snub and biggest one probably. The only people who didn't think so were some of the ESPN analysts on college basketball with the exception of Dickie V. Most of those guys don't like to give credit where it is due and the only mid-major conference they have respect for is the Missouri Valley who has 2 at-large bids every year along with the tournament winner. Drake got a 5 seed I do believe in the tournament, that surprised me. But anyway, we won't ever be in the Tourney until we win the tournament. Remember in 2003 when Miami was 18-11 with a strength of schedule of 43 and came in 2nd in the MAC tourney and didn't get an at-large. We have to be like a Butler, Drake, George Mason, Xavier, or Davidson, and win 25 plus games to get one probably. The '99 Miami team though did get an at-large with a 25-7 record, of course Szczerbiak and company.
  2. I was not trying to criticize the direction of the program as far as winning and coaching. I was just criticizing the recruiting and development. I was not putting down the character of the players because we do have class unlike (you know who). But look at our roster, are you telling me that there is not a single guy on there has contributed nothing? Conyers, Bardo, Goddard, Milum, McNees (he only had like 3 good games this year). There is nothing wrong with getting JUCO's, it worked for Cincinnati in the late 90's, Syracuse 5 years ago. I agree with khobortly, we don't win when it counts, plain and simple. You can blame it on whoever you want, but I would still blame it on the performance of the players. Basketball is a game of momentum like someone had said, so the players dictate the game. Can't had more depth this year and outplayed us all three games. But I just got tired of the cameras being on Can't fans every 5 minutes and listening to Michael Reghi after the game about the class of the Can't program. I don't think he remembered the elementary school behavior and instigation of Haminn Quaintance at the game at Can't. Instead of shaking hands with the players at the end, he was running up and down the court holding up his jersey and taunting the Akron crowd.
  3. The game tonight was a no doubter from half time. I turned it off with 5 minutes left. Couldn't take anymore of those ill-advised shots, missed free throws, and the travels and push offs Cant was getting away with. The next step is practice more free throws, if that's not an option, practice more free throws. If we miss more free throws that Cant made, there is a problem. Why can't J Wood pause for a moment when he shoots free throws or why can't he learn from Nick Dials? 15 missed foul shots is unacceptable. People keep overlooking that. If I was a coach, I would do like Hawkins does in Western Michigan at the end of every practice, have each player shoot 20 free throws. Cant wins because of execution under pressure and because they have talent. Having talent solves everything, to win 3 games in 3 days or 4 games in 4 days, you need talent. Dambrot better stop recruiting all these random average players, otherwise fans will start picking up on this and he will turn into a Bruce Weber of Illinois and the fans will hit the exits early. You can criticize me all you want for this post and I know it sounds negative, but I just wanted to give my 2 cents and not avoid the truth.
  4. The Cant students held up a sign on Friday night saying "We Don't Thow Stuff" and cited it "Akron student section March 9, 2008. Hello? We did that on purpose for Cant fans to read it and since they can't read, we misspelled it on purpose because that's how they would read it. But they were dumb to figure that out.
  5. The Zips need to take one game at a time. We all know what is coming up this week. And yes, blowing big leads comes from lack of intensity and the mental toughness did get them through the 2 overtime games. As far as the MAC Tournament, 3 games in 4 days will be tough. Miami, Ohio, and Can't State proved they will be in every game. MAC games will go down to the final 5 minutes of the game and what you do in those minutes will matter. One team can easily get hot and one team can easily cool down in tournament time. Ohio though doesn't have the depth we do. And if Peterson stays hot, we will get far. Chad Mraz needs more minutes. Dru seemed warn out at BG in overtime.I think if the Zips get 22 wins, they will get an NIT bid. It will take 23 or 24 wins probably to get respect from the NCAA selection committee and possibly get an at-large bid in the tournament should the Zips not win the MAC tourney. But I also think if they do get 22 wins and get to the championship of the tourney, there might be a possibility of an NCAA bid.Above all, I think the Zips will win 8 of their next 10 games, a loss at Can't and a loss at Miami.
  6. It doesn't matter about a home game against Marshall. It is a big game as far as tournament seeding will finish. Miami has Marshall at home coming up also. Every game just helps determine the final seeds.
  7. no, i go to every game, but some of our fans don't. i worded that wrong. but the bottom line is there are more fans at Can't home games than us. I will admit that but where I am from is no where near Cleveland, so I wouldn't know about Cleveland fans to tell you the truth.
  8. No one here is blaming the loss of Jeremiah Wood for the reason of the losses to Can't. We are 10-5 without him, let's see Can't win without Edwin or Warzinski, or without the alumni referees for that matter. We got screwed throughout most of the first game by the blind refs. In the second game Rob Preston, Rick McFadden got fouled a lot on shots, especially those undercuts that were quite obvious in front of the refs. Still of course that wasn't the reason for the loss and I'm moving on because this is anyone's conference. At Gund Arena, this should be a good tournament, but ESPN and the other media sources are so high on the teams below Akron and not us, so why? Our record in the top 100 RPI is better than Buffalo and Ohio. Once again, Can't and others get too much credit from the media, even in the mid-major polls.
  9. I don't think we are fairweather fans. I just think people don't feel like going to the JAR for every game, but that doesn't mean they are fairweather fans. A fairweather fan is someone who roots for another team or a team above them instead of their own when their team is not playing well. What Zips fan would rather root for the flushes. Our fans care about the Zips and still follow them in the Beacon. While on the subject, it seems like there are more student fans than "other" white trash fans at Can't. Now who cares about their team more?
  10. quote from Can't fan "akron fans hope the team will be lucky enough to win one game." yeah um look at the standings one more time u f*in hick. i can't wait to play football again in your ghetto/country style stadium with your ghetto/country style jerseys. i mean at least we can beat Ohio, we did it twice to be exact. but i would like to see Akron beat Can't one time this year without the refs screwing us, mainly in the first half. Can't will never have the heart that Akron does by the way. Nate Gerwig is the worst intiminator ever. Zips better win, because Ohio has it on Marshall tonight it looks like.
