  1. Look lik our recrUiting spreAds far and wide Eh!
  2. Looks like they stepped it up for the MAC Championship! They really gave the #3 team in the country a run for their money!! Nice work guys and gals! I think there is an addition error though, from what the final score was, the margin of victory was 51 points. Akron #2 in Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference The University of Akron Rifle Team competes in two conferences. Only one week ago the Zips were crowned conference champions in the 10 member Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference (WIRC). And this weekend, the Zips earned an invitation to compete in the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) championships held at MIT. The 22 member MAC is the largest rifle conference in the US and is divided into classifications based on scores. The Akron sharpshooters have earned a position in the master class, which is the highest classification in the conference. Five schools have achieved master class skills. Only the top two schools from each class are invited to the championships. At the MAC championships, Akron faced off against the US Naval Academy, currently the #3 team in the nation,. The midshipmen maintained their advantage finishing a slim 49 points ahead of the Zips, (2313 to 2264). Akron’s Joe Milano lead the charge with a very impressive smallbore rifle score of 576 out of a possible 600. This score earned Milano the bronze medal, 3rd place over all match honors just behind Navy’s Matthew Albright (590) and Mike Miller (580). And breaking into the 570’s for the first time in her career, Freshman sensation Laura Kuntz finished #4 overall with an outstanding 572. Kuntz actually tied Navy’s Marta Jung (572) but won the tie breaker. “I knew it would happen!†exclaimed Coach Newt Engle, “Joe and the rest of the team have been shooting great with Laura steadily catching up. I knew it was only a matter of time till she broke into the 570’s.†Norwich University fired against Navy for the air rifle championships, while several Zips fired for individual honors. And honor the Akron tradition they did, as Junior Sarah Kramer finished #5 overall with her 383 out of 400 followed closely by teammate Joe Milano in the #6 slot with his 382. This match will conclude the regular season for Akron Rifle. This season has established many new school records, brought home the first WIRC championship title, finished #2 overall in the MAC, and ranked as the #17 rifle team in the entire USA. “If you think what we did this year was impressive,†states coach Engle, “just wait till next season.†With no seniors on the team, the entire squad will return with some exciting new additions. Coach Engle will be making an announcement in the near future detailing who will be joining the 2004-05 Zips Rifle team. Again, the Zips had more fans at the match than all the other teams combined.
  3. I don't think that is the case. I don't remember seeing or hearing about any NCAA championships during my time. Bus Driver...any idea?
  4. Nice job Guys and Gals! Looks like they had a really off day and they still won the whole thing. Hopefully they can get back to their old form for the Mid Atlantic Rifle Confrence Championships! Hopefully they can get some payback for an early season loss to the Naval Academy. http://gozips.ocsn.com/sports/c-rifle/recaps/030104aaa.html
  5. This guy must have really pissed off the coaches! Brrrrrr! MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State reprimanded two coaches after a football player suffered frostbite during a disciplinary workout in subzero temperatures. Ball State's athletic director issued letters of reprimand to head coach Brady Hoke and football strength and conditioning coach Aaron Wellman after the workout, associate athletics director Joe Hernandez said Friday. Redshirt freshman receiver Chris Jackson suffered frostbite to several fingers during the 40-minute workout Jan. 31, Hernandez said. Jackson recovered following medical treatment and has returned to workouts. During the Jan. 31 workout, Jackson and several teammates carried a 25-pound sandbag up and down steps at the school's stadium, athletic director Bubba Cunningham said. Cunningham said that the disciplinary workout used was acceptable, but not in severe weather conditions. Jackson's injuries and the resulting reprimands were first reported Friday in The Star Press. Hoke and Wellman could not be reached for comment. The Associated Press left phone messages Friday at the Ball State offices of the coaches. There are no home phone listings for each coach in Muncie. ``I have met with the coaching staff about appropriate judgments regarding training and conditioning,'' Cunningham said. ``We've talked about appropriate guidelines and expectations of the staff, and we will follow through on that.'' The workout, which began about 6 a.m., was conducted on one of the coldest days of the winter. The temperature at the start of the workout was 7 degrees below zero and the wind chill was minus-12, said David Arnold, an associate professor of geography who monitors local weather.
  6. This made it on the morning radio today in Detroit. I was tempted to call in and give the ole Can't read, Can't write, Can't Spell, Can't State!
  7. Basically there isn't really a playoff. Each team shoots in a sectional match. For Collegiate shooting there are 2 diciplines per match, Smallbore Rifle and Air Rifle. For Smallbore they shoot 22's in the standing, kneeling, and prone positions. For Air they shoot Air Rifles, standing only. So for the NCAA Championships you can qualify for either Smallbore and/or Air. I also think that they take a certain number of individuals if their scores are high enough. For the team this year, I think the sectional matches were on Feb. 14th. Then they take the top 8 schools for each dicipline from the matches shot on that day. Then those teams shoot in one match for the NCAA Champions. From what I saw on gozips.com, their scores were a little lower than the team average this year so we probably won't make it. But the bus driver hinted that there might be some individuals who have a chance. I have to say that OSU is probably one of biggest rivals. They have a lot more money thrown their way and the name seems to pull in some shooters also. Akron's Coach has done a great job of building up stronger teams every year. The thing that gets me pumped is that there are no Seinors on the team this year according to gozips.com so we bring everyone back from what already looks to be the best UA team ever!
  8. I have to agree that I think he jumped ship 'cause there wasn't much farther to go at Can't State. I would think that most football coaches goal is to become an NFL Head coach. Don't think Pees was going to get there by working at Can't State.
  9. I had the same problem. I just figured that I was too computer illiterate.
  10. Yup, ya beat my first post. I KNOW that there wasn't any sarcasm in that post....right? My boys and girls have worked hard this year and I'm glad to see that success has come their way. We've been inching closer and closer to an invite to the NCAA championships over the last 6-7 years. Coach has really got some shooters on the team this year! Keep up the good work Guys and Gals!
  11. Been following the posts in the last few months when I get a chance. Work really gets in the way this time of year. Too bad some punks had to kill the other board. Made the transfer. Looks like I'll have to change my homepage.
