  1. "In response to how our season was so bad, after last night's FSU victory over UCLA, I came up with an equation... Akron beat NC State, NC State beat FSU, FSU beat UCLA, UCLA beat USC. Now I'm a firm believer that Michigan could have beat OSU earlier this year, especially if that game is on a neutral site. So if USC beats Michigan, Akron will therefore beat OSU next year ." Wow ... What a Faustism . Is that you Gerry?
  2. You forgot Mark Dantonio, he spent the 1985 season as the secondary coach at Akron where he coached under Jim Dennison, helping the Zips to an 8-3 record and an appearance in the Division I-AA playoffs.
  3. Its time to make some noise again ! The ABJ doesn't have a Akron football schedule and thinks the coaches name is J.B.Brookhart . In September we sent emails complaining about the lack of coverage . The ABJ responded by dismissed our complaints "Rabid sports fans get passionate when they beleive their favorite team is getting subpar treatment from the paper". ``Readers of the paper's sports section expect intense coverage of teams like the Indians, Browns, Cavs and Buckeyes that truly have a national following,'' said Sports Editor Larry Pantages Let the ABJ know that readers expect the information in the sport section be accurate. A mistake in an article from time to time may happen but two mistakes in the same article is unacceptable. Sports Editor Larry Pantages personal opinions are obviously having a negative affect on professional decisions. We must point this out to his superiors! Akron football fans, Associate Athletic Director Mike Wadell suggested we send emails to : jcrutchfield@ thebeaconjournal.com dasimmons@thebeaconjournal.com All members of the Zipsnation send emails to let the ABJ know the coaches name is J.D. Brookhart, and the next game is against Miami. We must get others involved have friend and family send emails. Ask other students to send emails. Print up flyers, post them on message boards, hand them out in the residence halls, and the student center. Get the Buchtelite involved . Remember make the emails short and positive. We will at least get them to printa correction and let them that readers are interseted in Akron Football. The Goal is to increase attendance using the ABJ to increase the intrest of the community. Lets be "RABID FANS"
  4. I believe I believe Ronald Regan was president the last time Akron played a post season game. Division IAA playoffs . I believe Akron will beat Buffalo .... I believe Akron has SEVEN Assistant Athletic Directors who, if the had they had ONE original thought in there brain it would die of loneliness. .... Giant Eagle, The Whistle, and no Media relationships !!! Spend some money, where is money going, $40 sweat shirts, $.35 cent bottles of Pepsi for $2.75 ??? I believe Akron upset Army .... in front of 30,000 fans at the Rubber Bowl I believe Dominic Hixon will be drafted early third round I believe Luke G. will have some more 300+ yard games and some more three interception games. I believe the team who plays Defense in the MAC will win the MAC. Don't stop believing !! The CMU game is history. CMU has left the Rubber Bowl and is on its way to another below .500 season. If Akron can beat the ussual suspects (Buffalo,Ohio,Ball State, and Can't State)they will finish no worst than 6-6 !! P.M.A. Don't stop believing Zipnation.
  5. I sent an email to The University and recieved two replys . SEE BELOW Shawn Nestor Assistant AD For Media Relations University of Akron 330.972.6292 (o) 330.374.8844 (f) Hi Roy, Thanks for your comments. However, we can't make the Beacon Journal cover football or our other teams. Story ideas are pitched to David Lee Morgan and/or the paper regularly with little to no response from them. Why don't they cover Akron athletics more? That's a good question. The focus of the ABJ is pro sports, Ohio State and high schools. We follow along after that group with the Akron Aeros and others. David Lee was invited to come on the team charter this past weekend, but he had to cover high school football Friday and the paper did not want to pay for him to come down to Tennessee at a different time. The story in the ABJ was the AP story re-packaged with a couple quotes. They will rarely come to road football games. And until we win over a consistent period, it is going to be hard to convince them to do otherwise. In their defense, it is not their job to help us meet attendance requirements or sell tickets. However, they should be covering the hometown team more. I agree. This is unlike any other situation I know of around the country. As far as last year's advertisement for the Marshall game, that was an error from the ABJ advertising dept. However, our ad agency made a mistake on an earlier ad and it was carried forward by the paper. Some kind of clerical error. I honestly can't remember the whole scenario, but there was another problem from our Can't State home basketball game. There was definitely sloppiness on their part. None of the preseason football scrimmages were attended by a staff writer, that was our release re-packaged by the sports desk. Hope that helps. Appreciate your concerns. The Media Guide says the Beacon's beatwriter is David Lee Morgan. The win against MTSU was covered by a staff reporter. Did anyone invite him to go to the game ? In order to meet attendance minimums and sell tickets The Akron Beacon Journal must cover the team and the MAC . They were very instrumental in getting the community involved during the 1980's when Akron moved to Division 1A . Recently the coverage is limited and poor . For instance, last years Marshall game which was on ESPN they had the wrong dates of the game advertised. This year the preseason scrimmages were covered by a staff writer and consisted of a list of stats the last page of the sports section. thanks R.Whiit HERE IS WERE WE GO ! 7. ATTENTION ZIPSNATION MEMBERS Lets make some noise! The Akron Beacon Journal's coverage of Akron football is weak and we as readers should let them know. There are 250 members of the zipsnation please call or send your emails to The Akron Beacon Journal sports. Larry Pantages or David Lee Morgan 330-996-3800 330-996-3824 lpantages@thebeaconjournal.com davidleemorgan@thebeaconjournal.com David Lee Morgan would rather cover girls high school volleyball and its evident in his articles on the Zips Coverage this season has been expecially poor . No preview of the 2005 season. They actually did a preview of The University of Akron fall sports and excluded football. No coverage of J.D. Brookharts weekly press conference . No mention of the MAC special teams player of the week Domenik Hixon . Our mission is to get The Beacon to pay more attention to Akron football . Emails should be to the point and always polite .A team effort is needed so please start as soon as possible. If you have any ideas please let other memebers know. Thanks THOR
