  1. Actually, a baseball park is not a good place to watch a football game, even with the seats angled towards the field. I flew out to Phoenix with my dad to watch Andy play in the Insight bowl in 2002 at Bank One Ballpark (or whatever it's called now) when Pitt played Oregon State. The seats were really crammed and the park didn't "feel" at all like a football stadium. The bleachers that the OSU fans sat in ran from right to center field and they just looked strange. They were about 1/3 the height of the rest of the stadium, with about 100 feet of outfield left behind them. The actual stadium seats behind the outfield football bleachers couldn't be used leaving a huge cavernous space behind the fans. Here are two pics I took pregame that shows where the OSU bleachers were in realation to the rest of the stadium.DSCF0009.jpgDSCF0004.jpg

  2. ESPN 360 is available for free online until July 19th even if your cable provider doesn't carry it. Go to ESPN.com and click the 360 link on the right (or click this, it will take you directly there). When it opens do a search for "Akron" and you'll get the Cooper Tires MAC Championship replay. It is a 14 minute highlight clip. Also, if anyone would be willing to put the broadcasts on the Ohio News Network games this year onto DVD I would appreciate it. Since I live in Buffalo, I do not have ONN. I would be willing to trade the ESPN games that I put on DVD from last season for any of the local broadcast games from last year and the ONN games coming up this season. PM me if you are interested. Thanks.

  3. Wow...that article has some great things to say about my "little" brother too. He's actually 300lbs. even; just weighed in today.Star of the offense: Senior QB Luke GetsyBest pro prospect: Senior OG Andy AllemanTop three all-star candidates: 1) Getsy, 2) Alleman, 3) OT Tim CrouchStrength of the offense: Offensive lineOffensive LinemenThe line might be the team's strength with all five starters returning after allowing just 21 sacks in 13 games. Akron might have finished 11th in the MAC in rushing, but that wasn't the line's fault, Brett Biggs ran for over 1,000 yards and this was mostly a passing team. There's good depth and a few near-certain all-stars in guard Andy Alleman and tackle Tim Crouch. It's a big group that should be even more productive. The key to the unit: Keep on improving. The experience is there, the depth is in place, so now the line has to go to another level and be the MAC's best.Offensive Line Rating: 6.5Projected Starters- OG Andy Alleman, Sr. Watch for Alleman to grow into a first day NFL prospect as the season goes on. He's 6-4 and 295 pounds with surprising quickness and freakish strength. The former Pitt Panther brings a defensive lineman mentality to the offense.

  4. I didn't see it either.  Was this a nationally televised commercial???  Or is it one of those commercials that fits into the slots for regional advertisements?
It had to have been regional because I didn't see it up here in Buffalo. I wonder if anyone has it to post online. BTW, the Akron/Can't game was broadcast up here on the local cable station.
  5. Zipsnation,

Here is a link to a video clip of Chris Berman giving mad props to Akron last week on his top 10 list. It's best to right click and "save as". It's a 17MB file, so if you don't have broadband you might not want to click.

Frye, Hixon, MAC Champs, Motor City Bowl, Akron Soccer. A great time to be a fan of the Zips.

    :macc:

P.S. As noted below: you'll need the divx codec to view it if you don't already have it. www.divx.com

Some of these have live polls to vote who you think will win. Most of the "experts" pick us to lose. It's good to know you can be dead wrong and still be called an "expert".

If anyone else finds another site that has bowl matchups and predictions, feel free to add them to the list.

I'm excited to watch the MCB, the Zips will play on my and my dad's birthday on the 26th, so a Zips win would be a great birthday gift. I'll also accept cash.

    Go Zips!

  7. im sure some of the players don't understand ,but i think dan said it best when some of the zipfans have been waiting 20 years for this game. that's why it's more than just one game.

Racer, I can't speak for the team, but I know one player in particular (let's just call him a close friend of mine) that understands the meaning of this game. We grew up 10 minutes from Akron and know the impact that one game can bring to a program. NIU will also understand tomorrow night. So as that clown Jim Rome says, I am out. I will see all of you in Detroit tomorrow night.

    Go Zips.

  8. To all of the haters out there (WPIAL this includes you since your verbal diarrhea on this board seems to flow like natty light at a frat party):

WE WILL SHOW UP IN SPITE OF YOUR JEALOUS HATE AND DEEP DESIRE TO SEE US FAIL. REGARDLESS OF NUMBERS, THOSE THAT HAVE WAITED TO SEE THIS TEAM EMERGE FROM THE SHADOWS WILL BE THERE AND WILL BE LOUD AND ROWDY AS HELL!! COUNT ON THAT.

You all must have forgotten about that 48-42 victory in overtime earlier in the season against the same team we're going to play this Thursday for all the marbles. Now take your meds, get ready for nap time with the other children or we'll take your keyboard away from you.

Now to the rest of the Nation:

This is it, this is your time. I've only been associated with this team for a short time, but I know what it's like to want something so bad you can taste it. One game can erase 20 years of heartache. I know this is only a game, but there are times when it's much more than that, and this is one of those times. I will be coming over from Buffalo to watch this Akron team that has grown immeasurably in such a short time play the most important game in school history. Show up, be proud, AND BRING THE NOISE!

One last thing WPIAL, I'm sure you're a Pitt apologist (your season's done) since your nickname implies Western PA and you might call Akron the "ugly stepsister", but the "ugly stepsister" is going to the dance, and you can bet your sweet ass SHE GONNA DANCE!

I will see you all in Detroit! GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Well, Buffalo finally did it. Less than a week after they fired their head coach, they finally got a win this season, their first MAC road win and it couldn't have come against a better (worse?) team. The streets will be on fire tonight here in Buffalo, although probably not, no one knows UB has a team. :screwks:

    GO ZIPS.
