  1. That was a big win for Akron. And what a shooting exhibition. I don't remember ever seeing a team hit so many threes at such a high completion percentage. If your team can keep that up no one else will beat them this season. After facing that kind of bombs away performance it is hard to believe CMU only lost by five. And I agree we could likely see each other again this season. Also, it was a nice crowd and it looked good on TV.
  2. Nice article. Little has changed from CMU's point of view. We make a living on dribble penetration and we expect to keep it going tonight. We have three guards who can dribble penetrate and finish at the rim or pull up for mid range jumpers or dump it off to one of our bigs with bounce passes or lobs up high or pick up a foul and shoot free throws. Lots of options with this offense. If all that doesn't work we have five guys who can shoot the three. But the biggest difference in the past several games is the fact that we have really picked it up on the defensive end. I will repeat what I said earlier, CMU is finally starting to play like the team that was picked to win it all and when this team is on I don't think anyone in this league can beat them. The problem is I have also watched them when they were not on and that concerns me about this game. Again, as I have already said, Akron has been a tough place for us to play. I think we have only had one win at the JAR in more years than I can remember. That does not bode well for CMU. In any event it should be a good one and I'm looking forward to it. I hope you have a nice crowd. The conference needs that with the game being on national TV.
  3. Central Michigan is playing really well right now. The team had a rough start to the season with Fowler (point guard) out for the first seven games but everyone is healthy now and playing like the team that was picked to win it all. Akron has always been a tough place for CMU to play and I'm feeling a little nervous about this one even thought CMU won at Mt. Pleasant. It should be a good one and both teams just might meet again in the MAC tournament.
  4. Nice win by Akron. That had to be the worst first half of basketball I have seen the Chips play this season. How we ever got so close at the end is beyond me. We had a number of players sleep walking through this one. The thing that really is disappointing to me is CMU does not get Akron in Mt. Pleasant this season. CMU had three of its first four on the road and came away 2-2 which is not too bad. Now they have three of the next four at home. I am expecting at least three wins in that series.
  5. Okay, you got me. I always knew I was getting old(er). Now I'll have to start dealing with the fact that I may be slowing down mentally as well. I'll try to do better next time.
  6. "He wants clarification to what holding is and if they consider Akron's OL technique legal or not. If it is OK he wants to start teaching our OL to start doing the same."Arrohead, where in the world did you find that? Even though you and I are on the same team I have to say that sounds nuts. That's not what Kelly is trying to do. I don't think he gives a tinker's damn about Akron's technique. In his mind it has become clear that excessive holding is the way teams have decided to deal with Bazine and he is anticipating it will continue during the season. He is simply trying to get officials to pay more attention in future games and he is using Akron to get what he wants. And he will probably get what he wants. We shall see what happens in the EMU game. This isn't any different than coaches working the officials on the sideline during a game. It's a step up from having a player complain to an official during the game that he is being held. I think it is a smart move by Kelly.
  7. USA Today says Akron is favored by 1 to 3.5 points. That's really close and I guess one could say this one is a basically a draw at this point. I am expecting a great game. Both teams have been tested by strong competition over the last two weeks. Both teams are full of confidence and both believe they will win. We shall see. I'm taking Central Michigan only because we have the home field advantage. This one will be close. The winner will take it by no more than a touchdown and that one could come on the last play of the game. You folks know all about that.
  8. If you really want to see the game I'm here to tell you the round trip can be made in one day with no problem. I know it can be done because I did it in in reverse a couple years ago to watch a CMU-Akron basketball game. I drove to Akron, watched the game and then drove back to Midland, MI (near Mt. Pleasant) in a snow storm. But I will admit one needs to be some sort of nutty college sports fan to do something like that.
  9. After your great win over NC State today I have to say I am really looking forward to our game next Saturday in Mt. Pleasant. Some time ago I stated on one of our message boards that I was not concerned about this game - I thought we would win going away. I saw the CMU-Akron game last year and felt we had no trouble winning that one. I didn't see why it should be any different this year, especially since we have home field advantage. But after you knocked off NC State I have had to shift my position - I'm a little worried. In any event, it should be a big time game and I can't wait to watch some competitive MAC football. Hope to see a few Akron fans in Mt. Pleasant.
