  1. Should be a good game but I, too, am pessimistic ... Horses 75 Akron 71. MUST take care of business in Muncie Saturday night. FYI ... Vegas has us a 1-point underdog tonight. From the Akron game notes ...Akron-Western Michigan Connections...• Fifth-year Western Michigan assistant coach Cornell Mann played at Akron for three seasons (1993-95).• First-year Western Michigan assistant coach Andy Hipsher played at Akron for five seasons (2000-04).

  2. Wisconsin is pretty much off the Zips 2008 schedule.
Will we get I-AAAA North Carolina Backwoods here or at their place next year to fill the gap? Any word on what fund-raisers the program will be hosting to make up for the lost revenue? Seriously - any word, CK, on who will fill in for the Badgers?
  3. Looks like JumpTV is having server problems in general. Got a similar message when I tried to access the Virginia Commonwealth and Western Michigan men's basketball sites. Nevada's men's basketball page is partially down. George Mason's men's page is up but their with CSTV.com. Nothing on ESPN/ESPNU yet regarding Bracket Buster. Anybody know when the games will be announced? Here's a link to the official site ...O'Reilly / ESPNU BracketBusters

  4. I went into Joe's Sun Bar. We were meeting about 15 ppl and had to call everyone and tell them we moved across the street. I loved the look of the big, old bar and the spaciousness of the place but they acted like they had no clue that Akron had an away game that day. Anyone on ZN knows that everyone is always looking for a place to go watch the away games. We need a place where we can wear all our Zips gear. Where we can go before and after the home games and see the away games. We need a place to celebrate our victories and cry in our beer, mixed drink, etc when we lose and where we don't have to fight to get the TV station changed from the OSU game to the Akron game. From the posts during the fall I know I'm not the only one looking for a good place to eat and drink and meet other Zip fans.
My son and I stopped in at Scorchers on Waterloo Road for lunch yesterday (Super Bowl Sunday) to check it out and get our Nick Goddard "free wings." Had a very nice conversation with Randy, owner of the place. 1986 alum and BIG Zips fan. Does a LOT of the catering if not all of it for the men's basketball program (Dambrot is superstitious and Randy is his guy). Lots of TVs, a bar, plenty of seating, and access to pretty much everything except Time Warner (i.e. when TW picked up the Akron @ Can't game the other night). Has Can't and Akron football helmets on the wall knocking into each other and respective jerseys on either side of them. Also has tosu jersey, missing MEE-chigan jersey ("no-show" at tosu/Michigan football games), Browns, and Steeler jerseys on the wall as well. I realize it's off-campus but keep it in mind if you're looking for an Akron-friendly establishment and a means to get there.
  5. "Sorry, this service is temporarily unavailable but will be returning shortly. Look for added content like archived audio of all football, men's and women's basketball games and weekly radio shows, free web cast (video + audio) of all road football and men's basketball games, and an updated 'future schedules' for football. Sorry for any inconvenience as we catch back up to what we used to provide AND add content that schools in other conferences already provide. JumpTV Sports."OK, so I embellished the 'temporarily unavailable' message. A guy can dream can't he? :)

  6. One thing I really like about the ESPN Bracket Buster ... it FORCES some of these teams who wouldn't THINK of playing AT Akron to come here and play us. Too bad (at least according to Frenchy) that the MVC has right of refusal on where/who they play in the Buster (pansies). Looking forward to seeing who we draw tomorrow.

  7. The EMU game isn't for another couple of days but I figured I get this started to help prevent multiple EMU threads ...Eastern Michigan senior center James Matthews was dismissed from the team a couple of days ago (1/29) for conduct detrimental to the team. He only averaged about 5 points a game and grabbed a few rebounds. STORY HEREOne less player EMU has available to them and one less big body we have to deal with near the basket.

  8. B. McKnight - utterly lost ... that pretty much nails it. Both ends of the court too. Toledo just blew past him when they were on offense and BM didn't seem to know where he was supposed to be when Akron had the ball (I know I saw Dials telling him where he should be at least once).I seem to recall hearing KD say on one of the pre- or post-games that he wants his guys going all out for 2-3 minutes followed by a breather on the bench (similar to hockey line changes). Dials seems to do just that when he's out there and looked totally gassed a number of times after he was pulled. Dials and Linhart have been fantastic this year. A buddy of mine couldn't remember seeing Linhart come out of the game last night and he was right! Nice to have Toledo and EMU at home to try to get our house in order before heading back out on the road against Western and Ball State. Nice second half last night. VERY nice to see Bardo play so well on the defensive end of the floor.

  9. Here's a really nice story in today's ABJ. It was given tons of front page space (it was today's featured story) and continued on with considerable page 4 space. It's a nice, quite in-depth article where Tom Gaffney even gives his opinion on where the Zips need to improve/make changes - which I think is nice to see; usually the ABJ articles on the Zips are merely factual, rather than opinion pieces. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/14897246.html
A little long on truth ... not enough fantasy / sugar-coating!
  10. Turnovers - Akron had a season-high 23 turnovers. Let's just say if they have 10 less turnovers, which would put them at 13 (right around their average for the seaason) and scored on half of those possessions, that's Akron +4. (Their previous high in the turnover department was 15, and heck, the most that a UA opponent had was 23 themselves, Wyoming).
Exactly how I explained it to a friend of mine and my son on the way home last night. You should also assume Can't scored on half of those 10 turnovers so that puts Akron at +14, no? An Akron "W" if we figure out a way to keep turnovers closer to normal. Bummer.Would LOVE to see B. McKnight turned loose as a compliment to Wood down low. Totally agree that it is time to really see whether that is something we can develop and have ready come tourney time.Love Steve M. but would have sat him down in the second half. KD said he needed his ball handling skills out there but I would have gone with Roberts and Dials. Bardo ... would probably have gotten eaten alive out there last night. Have we seen a Bardo/Wood combo out there yet? I can't remember.Milum - gotta start stepping up, even against the more physical teams. Really disappears at times and would rather see his minutes go elsewhere if that's going to be the case. Senior year - last chance to contribute meaningful minutes.
  11. I would love to see some of the replays from last nights game.
I have it recorded on my DVR. If I can figure out how to make it work I will post the final few seconds on here. It looked to me like Mincy threw a punch at Quade.
Hilltopper - Let me know if you figure out how to transfer video out of your DVR (Atlantic Scientific from Time Warner?) to a computer. I'm tempted to pull the DVR hard drive, put it into an external USB drive enclosure, and see if I can access any vid files that way. With my luck, I'll screw everything up and lose what I've got saved. I've got a bunch of UA stuff I'd like to edit and save, including snippets from last night's game. Thanks.
  12. One last thing ... the "WE SUCK" banner was fantastic. They were so stupid they did not even know they were being flamed.
OK this was somewhat clever but not that amazing. I'm sure if people dressed up in Akron gear came over with a sign we would do the same thing... thats like me sitting in a lecture class with 200 students and in the middle of it going "OH BURN, I'M NOT IN THIS CLASS, IN YOUR FACE"... LOL

  13. Singletary is dirty as hell. The guy acts like he's just trying to get past our guy on inbounds plays as he has his arms raised in the air and his elbows are right in the face of the guy he's "just trying to get past." No, really, ref. Was glad to see Linhart give him a shove to the face just before a timeout. Singletary was NOT happy about that and I'm surprised nothing more came of it. A little taste of his own thug medicine.I hope the Rowdies took notice of #4 (Isaac Knight) blowing kisses their way as he went to shake hands with the Akron players after the game. Q played a strong game but he's borderline thug in my book. Wouldn't surprise me at all to read about a few of the current Can't players in a less-than-positive light after they finish their eligibility (couldn't go so far as to say 'graduate' - too much benefit of the doubt). I hope I'm wrong - time will tell. I'd really like to see a Miami-like blowout on March 9th to send a loud and clear message as everyone heads north to The Q in Cleveland.

  14. P1010008.JPGTwo Rowdies make it to the floor wearing Can't T-shirts and get Can't students, including three dressed as Teletubbies (what's with THAT?!?), to help them unfurl a sign directed at the Rowdies. Turns out the sign said "WE SUCK!" and the joke was once again on the dumba$$ Can't students ... Can't read, Can't write, Can't get-a-frickin'-CLUE!Truly priceless. There are better pics floating around out there but I thought I'd post mine. A few more to follow if this one works. Way to go Rowdies. Worth the price of admission. Here's one of a pissed-off Teletubby (this guy has two fingers that I know of - the middle finger on each hand - proof to follow) throwing the balled-up sign back towards the Rowdies in the upper level ...P1010009.JPGThe proof that I promised of a class-less Teletubby Can't fan showing us his two fingers ...P1010011.JPGThe best for last ... the two Rowdies who masqueraded as Can't students and got the Can't students to help proclaim to all: "WE SUCK!" Job well done boys! Willie and the rest of the Rowdies obviously TOTALLY approve!P1010012.JPGSorry for the poor-quality pics. Figured our smaller digital camera would be easier to carry and that was a mistake. Should have taken the newer one. Oh well ... hopefully some of the Rowdies who were snapping away will post a few. Sure wish Akron would have played a better game and given us the win. Way too many turnovers did us in.
  15. Captain,When did we ever get out of the K.e.n.t-hating mood to need a thread to get back into it?:screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks:
:iws::laugh_up: If my wife and I sense the kids aren't hating Can't enough when they wake up in the morning, we send them right back to their rooms and tell them not to come out until they can do a better job! :nono: (JUST kidding for all of you psychology types ... :moon: )
