  1. "It is disgraceful and straight-ghetto. The average I.Q. of a plasma center loiterer appears to be somewhere between a plant and a frog. Last night I watched as some 250-pound, white-trash chick blew cigarette smoke in her babies face as she was just standing outside that place with this blank, mindless, oblivious expression on her face. It's gross."Come on man! I am trying to provide for my family! There's nothing wrong with fat girls, they give the best.....quit talking about my wife! If you gave blood every other day you would be disoriented too! I heard Akron is building a new stadium!
  2. I can't be too thrilled about a kid with those 2 offers. Unless we are having an academic challenge team we need to recruit higher level athletes.I guess we should drop the student in student athlete. We've had athletes that were smart and able to contribute within the team concept. I remember a great play by one such football player that saved a big win for the Zips at BG at the goal line. I'm not suggesting this was his only contribution but may have been his biggest. Awesome play! He wasn't the most gifted athlete but stepped up and contributed. Anyone know who this was???? Smart and athletic aren't mutually exclusive.Mark Groza is the answer. Game saving tackle at BG and 3.92 in the classroom and a class act, too!Give that man a cigar or a cold beverage of his choice!! I would have guessed Rich Reliford. Reliford's Goal Line Tackles Beat BGReliford's 3.03 GPA in Mechanical and Polymer EngineeringThe Quintessential Student AthleteIt was Rich Reliford. Oct. 2000 Akron won 27-21.
  3. With a new AD coming in I think it puts more pressure on JD. The new AD is gonna want his own guy and live and die by who he hires. If they were to hire Waddel I don't think anything short of a runaway MAC Championship and JD would be gone. No 6-6 or 7-5. 8-4 maybe. Don't look to far into the fact JD was hired by Thomas.
  4. Although we do not want to admit it Akron is still considered a commuter school by most people around here. Many people still call it Akron U. The further away you get from Akron the better the perception of it. Until that perception changes you are going to see Akron still recruit many players from Georgia, Florida, etc. In the last couple of years with the new stadium and a MAC title the perception is starting to change. As it continues to change the more you will see local prospects stay in town.
  5. Recruiting stars mean nothing. Look at some of the big schools in years past. A lot of the stars on the team weren't 4 or 5 stars. Laurinitis was 3 stars, Crabtree-2 stars, Malcolm Jenkins-3 stars. Then there are a lot of 4 and 5 star kids you have never even heard of because they never seen the field. 90 percent of the players that are on these websites have never even been seen in person by the guys who run these sites. Just like the previous post a lot of the better players at UA were only 1-2 stars. There are too many intangibles to measure if a kid is going to be good or not (heart, work ethic, character, etc). This kid will probably end up being an offensive lineman. They'll get him in the weight room, add some muscle, and a lot of fat! Most high school programs do not have very good weight programs. This area is a little spoiled when it comes to that b/c HS football is taken very serious around here. Scott Smith from Col. DeSales started at center for 4 years here (98-01) and he came in to the program weighing 215 lbs, but played at 285-290. But it is fun to look at the stars!
  6. I hate to rain on this parade, but the new team is going to be in Massillon. They are playing at Paul Brown and practicing in their new indoor facility. It was in the Massillon Independent lastweek sometime. The league is paying Massillon $375,000 to use their facilities.
  7. Everyone has some great arguments. I definitely do not like the 1AA idea of scheduling. You have nothing to gain and everything to lose. You definitely need to schedule home and home with other D1 schools. I don't think it necessarily matters from what conferences. Now that we get 4 non-league games you need to schedule one or two lower tier D1 schools that you have a good shot at beating (North Texas, Mid TN, UL Monroe, Duke, Baylor, Minnesota, etc). Then you should schedule 1 or 2 decent schools that are more of a 50-50 chance (Kansas St., Indiana, Colorado St., Vanderbilt, Nevada, etc.) But you have to keep some of the powerhouses on the schedule. Yeah, you are probably gonna lose, but it helps recruiting. Players like to go play at the big schools and yes it is a pay day. I think you should try to build a program like Fresno State did. Look at their schedule this year for example. Their non-league games are 1. @ Rutgers 2. vs. Wisconsin 3. @ Toledo 4. @ UCLA. 2007- they had 1. vs Sacramento St. (which I don't like) 2. @ Texas A&m 3. @ Oregon 4. vs. Kansas State. It's hard to schedule because games are scheduled years in advance. I am sure Fresno didn't expect Rutgers to be good this year when they scheduled them. It keeps it very interesting. I think they are on the right track with the route they are heading in scheduling. If you can beat the teams you are supposed to every year and beat half the teams you aren't supposed to, eventually you are gonna be pretty good. Obviously, it is a hell of a lot easier said than done!
  8. GP1, GP1, GP1! Are you ever gonna learn! You are an idiot! Point blank! I am not gonna point this out everytime I see an idiotic comment from you. But christ o'mighty. You are an idiot! For you to sit here and say NE Ohio is down in talent you are a clueless fu.k! Ohio State has had 15 straight years of signing someone from Stark county alone. That is only one county in NE Ohio and only one Div. 1 school. Let me name a few: Troy Smith, Chris Wells, Barton, Boone, Cie Grant, Kenny Peterson, Maurice Clarrett, Tony Gonzalez, Jamar Martin, Ted Ginn, etc. Those are just to name a few. And those are just Buckeyes. How about Mario Manningham and Prescott Burgess. There is the second Big Ten team, but I am sick of making the argument to someone who doesn't have a clue. Where is your arguement? Where are your statistical facts? I don't even like Ohio State. But I respect the fact they are the dominant program in Ohio. Go start putting your posts there, on Buckeye boards. B/c you are obviously a Buckeye fan. Run with the front runner. You are not a Zip fan and never will be. But when this program awakes from the sleeping giant program that they can be you will be the jack ass fan who will say you were there from the beginning. Do us all a favor and do not post anymore. Why? B/c you are an idiot. Like I said on your last completely idiotic comment: Quit dwelling on the fact you got hurt in pee-wee football and never regained your spot back through high school. Face the fact, that you never stepped foot on a Div 1 football field, let alone remotely have the talent to play flag football in a co-ed league. Bottom line SHUT UP! You make me embarrassed to say I am a Zip fan only because it makes me associated with you! SHUT UP! Wow I feel better now!
  9. GP1,Get a clue and your unsubstantiated facts straight before you make idiotic comments. I enjoy reading this site, but keep my opinions to myself. But I can not just let this post slide. This is one of the most idiotic, clueless comments I think anyone has ever made on this site. I, myself, can't comment on the players in JD's program right now because I am not around the situation on a daily basis. I can evaluate from TV or the stands. That's easy. So I am not going to say his players or Lee Owens players are better BECAUSE I am not there day in and day out. Sure some of the teams were bad (most of them) during the Lee Owens era. But don't make idiotic unintelligent comments. Stop and take a look at some players that have come out of the Lee Owens era:Dwight Smith, Chase Blackburn, Charlie Frye, Jake Schifino, Domenik Hixon, Lou Mackey, Ryan Myers (All guys who have had success in the NFL)Other guys who have played or went to camp with NFL Teams :Matt Cherry, Mike Brake, Jon Eaton, John Fuller, Konrad Dean, Jeff Grzeskowiak, Zac Derr, Willie Spencer (Transferred)I am sure I am missing some. But you GP1 being the football genius that you are, are right. There was no talent there. And Faust 1992 team with the best record was against a mixture of 1AA opponents. So check your own self-awareness. Just out of curiousity have you ever stepped foot on a football field for a D1 program? Didn't think so. So quit making idiotic statements because you got hurt in pee-wee football and never regained your spot back!
  10. You can shut down the number one team in the nation or the 119th team in the nation, if you can't score it is still 0-0! We all know our kicking game sucks, so that is also a disadvantage to us! You need somewhat of an offense! I am sorry, I love Akron. I am just being a realist and a critic of the game. I hope they prove me wrong. The only way they can prove me wrong is if there are some changes or a young guy steps up at WR. By the way Buffalo is up 34-6!
  11. Don't get me wrong I'll give OSU all the credit in the world, defensively. Both offenses were pathetic. One more so than the other. Drastically. If you can not score any points off 5 TO's what else can the defense do for you other than score themselves. It is just pathetic. You can not win many games when your defense produces FIVE turnovers, FIVE turnovers and your offense can't capitalize on ONE of them! Especially when the offense has like 75 yards or whatever they finished with. It's pathetic when your MVP is John Stec, your freakin punter, for Christ sake! No disrespect to John, he did a phenominal job!
  12. 999-1 that is the chances to win when you are plus 5 in the turnover margin! Except when your Akron, you're 0-1! The offense is terrible. Absolutely no deep threat. Put B. Williams in at slot like B. Payne was when he got beat out by B. Hendry. Put C. Jackson in at WR like N. Sparks when he got beat out by C. Frye. Two of the best athletes aren't even on the field. We can see why Jacquemain won the job. Strecth the field. Even if you don't complete it, the defense has to respect it. In turn, will open up the run game. The defense played great, obviously. But with that offense we will struggle with Temple and Buffalo. I am not questioning the coaching b/c we are not there day in and day out. They know what is best for the team before any of us can comment on it by watching 2 games. But being a former player and a multiple year starter things need to change. Some of the predictions of 4-8 might be realistic!
