If Chairman Dick Armey decides to financially support Ron Paul and LB's specifically, that's fine as well. Just because you accept funds from an individual doesn't mean you support all(or any) of their ideals. I think it's important to distinguish between lobbyists who represent large corporations and sway the vote of a politician on a specific issue, and individuals or groups who contribute to a large, ideologically diverse movement. Dream on. His voting record shows his true colors. His foreign policy has for the most part been a continuation of the Bush Regime. If he were to actually end combat operations in Afghanistan, he would suffer serious backlash come 2012. Idiot America(read:Sarah Palin supporters) would go nuts. They want someone like McCain, who actually ran in 2008 on the notion that we should stay in Afghanistan for 100+ years....and then won the Republican primary. It's mind boggling, really. See, that's exactly what I said -- IF Obama would get out of AFG, it would SPLIT the GOP, giving an upper hand to the Paliniacs, the Democrats' dream opponent in 2012. Unfortunately, I have to agree that BO has shown no inclination to stand up to either the Tea Party OR the Pentagon. And BTW -- Dick Armey is nothing but a huge pipeline for corporate cash. Not to say that the Dems don't have their own pipelines, but how bouts plugging them all?

Can't State sucks, have you heard? The same lobbyists are funding the Tea Party. Ever heard of Dick Armey and Freedomworks? I think that one way Obama can survive is to more openly break with the generals and declare a definite end date to combat operations in Afghanistan. That would not just endear him to his base, but help divide the GOP branches of libertarians and neo-cons.

Is Brian Walsh (the Xavier transfer) eligible to play this year? Where does he fit in, PT-wise?
-
I hope people realize -- the NCAA seedings are based almost entirely on RPI. So margin of victory is irrelavent. Akron just has to win the MAC -- that's all they can do. Question is, does Lollaville play anyone in BE Tourney that could catapult them? Georgetown #15; UConn #18. MAC -- # Crap.

It has been announced by UCSB, that their Harder Field will play host to the Akron Zips in a single game on September 30, 2011. I read the news on the Bigsoccer Board. This will be part of the NSCAA series televised on FSC. This game could be immediately following the previously reported Akron appearance at UC-Irvine's tournament -- no date given. Don't let it stop you from making your plans for travel to SB this December -- in anticipation of Akron's performance in the 2010 College Cup. I have my reservations, do you have yours? Need assistance in touring the Central Coast Wine Country? Contact me.

Zippy Casanova - Akron Soccer song
Z.I.P. replied to zippyfan34's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Can you explain what a Carrie Underwood or Cowboy Casanova is? -
I was actually wondering about this. Is Andrew a local from Amherst, or did he move there to attend Brad Friedel's academy? I thought I read somewhere that he was originally from New England. He's now playing for Columbus Crew Jrs. according to USSF. Guess he's not in residency in Bradenton. In any case, yes, he's reeeeeealy good.

Well, it's going on again tonight. Late night EST -- but prime time in the Hawaiian time zone. Also, one post that I made disappeared when I refreshed the thread. Server error?? I notice I've been the only member logged in the last two hours. -
Whoa -- just a second. Where's the link saying he's verballed to Akron?? I'll get back to ya on this one. Come on Drew, you wanna be a Zip, we all know that.

What's the largest font on this board? How about: YES! This may be the biggest recruit of Caleb Porter's career. Souders is the best all around fullback (at the U15 - U17 level) in the USA in at least the last decade -- well, I haven't really been following the national youth program any longer than that. Did I say, YES? Z.I.P. is in recruiting heaven right now. Thanks for the news, Zach.

Z.I.P., I'm here to help by giving you every bit of computer knowledge I have....Try turning your computer off and then turning it back on. Wow. It worked! I hope you're not looking for remuneration. I will simply say that your wisdom is infinite. Except for politics. And as they say, everything is political. -
Second season in the league, and Zaki has ten goals -- and as the announcers should have said, "This guy should be in his senior season at Akron right now." I think he would win the Hermann Award for sure this season -- probably more than 20 goals (based on past experience). Steve has to make a decision next year whether to play for Congo in World Cup qualifying. Other factors are that a. Congo could split into two countries by then. And, b. he has the opportunity to apply for a green card and play for real for the USA.

Yes the same place as will call they sell tickets as well. I believe they sell them at the northeast gate too. Hopefully, there's a sign reading BOX OFFICE -

Problem has cured itself, for now at least. No problem at work on network, but I get unlogged often -- at least every time I log off the computer -- at home. For some reason, I was getting unlogged after every post last night. Using Explorer/MSN9 with Vista. -
Wow...that's huge. Can't believe the kid would leave, and lose another year of eligibility? Actually, he'll only lose 1/2 a season (eligible Spring '12)...but still. He must have HATED Athens? Apparently he is done with basketball all together and will be focusing on academics. What -- he's not declaring for the NBA draft??

Well, I did have the opportunity to escape work this a.m. (Thursday), in order to watch about the final 40 minutes of this match. Penn State probably played the best game of each player's career. Akron was tuned in about 90% of the time. That other 10% can kill ya. That ball almost got in the corner of the Akron goal with 10 seconds left in reg time. The Akron midfield did give up altogether too many balls to Nittany Lion players. Apparently, Ampai is still out of action, eh? When does he return? Perry Kitchen is better at developing play offensively than at holding the ball in the center. Thought Nanchoff looked really good -- though that PK was a bit close for my taste. Close games develop character. We should have enough now to blow out our upcoming opponents.

Hey -- if we don't get a 'L' before the tournament (and likely even if we do get just one), we're going to be the #1 seed. Everyone else has to be worried about playing Akron, whether on Lee Jackson or on the neutral field of UCSB, not the other way around. Overall, this whole speculation at this time is a month early. I don't want to read any more until we take care of the regular season and MAC. One game at a time.

Why is it that every time I come on the Zn.o, I am directed to log in before posting to any thread, and no matter how many times I post on the same visit, I have to log in before each new post? This has just started happening this week -- where I am redirected for every post. I'm not concerned about logging-in when I come on the board, but for Pete's sake, every post?

Spin the Wheel of Fortune, and we get...Brandon Padgett. The newest coach on campus. I suspect this will show a lot about Tom Wisty's ability to forge the future. If we drop into oblivion, it will say a lot.

Some people think their organs are great, but they don't know they are looking in the funhouse mirror. It seems the city of Columbus is surrounded by a funhouse mirror. What did the poet Robert Burns write? "Aw, but the gift to gi'e, is to zee ourselves as others zee us."

Zips make SI's Extra Mustard (Columbus State Red Card)
Z.I.P. replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
You are right, but i think applying the term "front-runner" to fans, like myself, who are abandoning this year's football season is a bit hasty. Im a huge zips fan and even I am having a hard time justifying taking off work on saturdays to go to the games. As a college student, money is a big deal, but I was willing to take those days off to go to the game. Now... it is making more sense to work instead of going to the game. Ill still follow the zips and see how things go, but Im not going to the games this year. Just isn't worth it. And yes, I will be at a lot of soccer games this year, partially because they are a proven perennial winner, but also because I love the atmosphere and energy at the games, something I desperately wish we had with football. Something to consider: If OSU were to hit hard times and be sub-.500 at this point in the season, how would things look then? Would the stadium still sell out? Would all those "fans" still be fans? What if they had a stretch of 3 years that were sub-par? Something to think about since I am certain the same reasons would come up for those fans there as they are here. Oh... to keep this post relevant, it still baffles me how OSU's soccer coach could be so incredible ignorant. Glad to see its getting some big exposure not because it was OSU, but because it was a fully-warranted red card. That type of unsportsmanlike conduct should be met with suspension. I 100% agree about the coach and suspension. What was really amazing is that a poster on another board said the guy was already in motion and couldn't stop. LOL.. As for the coach, I tried to figure out if it was coach speak or if he is just a moron. I decided on moron. If your team does something stupid admit it. It makes you look much more credible. OSU had some lean years during the Cooper years and they still sold out every game of 100K. Now, if they had 10 straight losing years, I can't answer that. I doubt it would matter though. Just as you mentioned the soccer game atmosphere, the atmosphere of 100k is amazing too. I was watching ESPiN on Saturday before an SEC game. One of the coaches mentioned that you pick a side before you are 4 years old. I think that holds some merit here too. I think it does in every situation. I have been in Georgia for over 4 years now, and I still could care less about the Atlanta teams even though they are 30 minutes away. I am diehard Cavs, Browns and Indians. Nothing will ever change that. I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't think it's possible to turn off an allegiance to a team. Before I moved I went to 2-3 Zip games a year, every year since I was small and Dad took me to the Acme-Zip game. I would still be going if I lived there. Good or bad, they are my team and my alma mater. I am dying to see a game at the Info. Buckzip, your statement made me smile. Growing up as a youngster in the late 60s and early 70s in suburban Akron, Ohio, I became a big fan of the Atlanta Falcons, Hawks, Braves, and NASL Chiefs (who won the city's first major sports title in 1969), as well as Georgia Tech. The reason? When I was about seven or eight years old, I got a transistor radio for Christmas, and ended up tuning into WSB Radio in Atlanta which broadcast all the city's sports teams. My fave hockey team? Since Atlanta didn't have NHL till the Flames in the 70s, I listened to the Boston Bruins on WBZ in Beantown. The only teams in Ohio that I EVER rooted for were the Cleveland Indians and MY Akron Zips (The reason why it's called "Akron U."). Well, I suppose the Cleveland Crusaders and Barons during their runs. I guess I got caught up in the Miracle in Richfield, but wasn't a big Cavs fan. I did stop cheering for the Atlanta teams -- except for the Falcons who I kind of follow to this day. On the other hand, I never developed what could be called a "hatred" of any sports teams (well, the Yankees and Steelers I just will always root against, but they can't inspire me to hate). I still have no mirth for what this board calls our "rivals", because they weren't that up to the 80s, when I left town. And the only educational institution I can feel ill will toward is the one that can only be called the Great Bully, the one that has to capitalize the article in its name, it has such a gigantumongous collective ego. I can't hate that either. But I have a great deal of pity for those poor suckers. Suckers, that's pretty close to what most Zips fans call them. I apologize if this is offensive to any fans of any of these teams. Have a great day. -
Great game -- and great three point result! Too bad this game isn't on the weekend when more could see it. But, it might solidify Louisville's hold on #1 in CSN. lol!

Never, ever, visit Happy Valley and not visit the Creamery. PSU has a college of Ice Cream. At the Creamery you can buy fresh made ice cream. PSU students make the fantastic concoction beginning right from on campus cows. Let's make sure things are not all "Peachy Paterno" on campus tonight. BTW -- someone do a survey at the pitch and see if you can find coach Valter Bahr and his leetle boys in the stands.
