The Akron men's and women's cross country team under the leadership of head coaches Lee LaBadie and David Gramlich received recognition for their efforts in the classroom as both were honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as Division I All-Academic squads for the 2016 campaign.

Former University of Akron men's soccer standout and New York City FC rookie Jonathan Lewis has been named by U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team head coach Tab Ramos to the 20-player roster for the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, which also serve as the squad's 2017 World Cup qualifying tournament, running Feb. 17-March 5 in Costa Rica.

  3. Isaiah “Big Dog” Johnson (Cincinnati, Ohio) continued his dominant season, hitting a 16-foot jumper from the wing as time expired to give the Akron Zips a 65-63 victory over the Ball State Cardinals. The victory marks the 29th consecutive win at James A. Rhodes Arena, which is the second-best home-court winning streak in the country behind Oregon (40).
