  1. For the fifth time in the last seven seasons, Akron has garnered a postseason invitation as the Zips were selected to participate in the 2016 Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). Akron will open tournament play hosting its first-ever home postseason tilt welcoming Bucknell to James A. Rhodes Arena for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday, March 17.

  2. University of Akron junior Clayton Murphy (New Paris, Ohio) ran the top time in the 800 meters, while senior Alexis Cooks (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and sophomore Jackie Seifring (Covington, Ohio) each garnered All-America accolades in the weight throw and pentathlon, respectively, to directs the Zips' performances on the opening day of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Four University of Akron women's basketball players scored in double figures, led by freshman Lilli Piper's (Norton, Ohio) career-high 24 points, but the Zips (19-13) fell in a heartbreaking 88-87 decision against Buffalo (19-13) in the Mid-American Conference Tournament Semifinals on Friday afternoon, March 11, at Quicken Loans Arena.
