  1. My company is working on a proposal for that project right now. That means they likely haven't purchased it yet, but are very close. The plans I've seen show a building more like the exchange street dorms, which could easily house either or both of those restaurants. Either of those would be a gold mine on campus, I would think.

  2. Ok... time for a shake up here in Akron

Let's start by increasing our spectator sports and getting rid of some others.

Rifle and the 3.6 schollys you are the first to go. I am not sure if these are gender specific schollys (i think they are mens).....but the sport is gone. Mens Track/ CC 12.6 schollys --gone, mens golf 4.5 schollys --gone (your home course is Firestone CC and you are still not even the best program in NE Ohio?) womens golf 6 schollys-- gone.

Now what to do? Well lets get some sports students and the general public can watch....and how about sports that Akron can compete in at a national level. Soccer has worked out well. Obviously title IX and MAC regs tie our hands a bit, but lets look at adding Mens Lacrosse , Womens Lacrosse, and to keep the MAC satisfied Womens field hockey. All 3 can be played right in the middle of campus, are do not necessarily need to be fully funded to be competitive. Both M+W lacrosse are enjoying tremendous growth nationally and locally... field hockey is a throw in as I am sure the MAC has minimum limits on MAC sports needed (and lacrosse is not a MAC sport).

    Flame away

My only flame is before you post an idiotic comment like this, get your facts straight.

(Edit): Sorry, my numbers were off, but I still think you're an idiot.

  3. Thanks for posting the videos.

Did anyone else notice in the video that just as the ball rebounds off Nagbe's face the coach says "I'm really proud of our team"? Good piece of video editing MLS. I might be biased and looking for something that's not there (a sort of "Dark Side of the Rainbow" you might say), but it made me laugh regardless.

  4. I would like to think we are better than WKY, and seeing that they put 21 up on IU, and seeing us come within a few yards of putting up at least 21 more against UK, and being the eternal optimist, well this could be a good game for the guys to get it together. I predict it will at least be more competitive, but I'm going to stop short of predicting a winner.

  5. I'm going. I spent a couple years at UK before coming to Akron and my family is still down there So basically it's a win-win, no matter how good or bad the game could potentially be. Plus I have a friend who has season tix to UK and is out of town so I didn't even have to buy them!

Take it from me Dr. Z, Ramsey's is awesome if you're looking into local joints. Go to the one on Maxwell, close to campus, for the most authentic experience though. If you are looking for an awesome beer selection, the Old Chicago the UK fans mentioned is nice, but they are a chain, try Pazzo's on Limestone St. at the north end of campus (across from the bookstore). They have 100 or so beers on tap and awesome pizza, oh and get a soft pretzel with cheese.

If you have any other questions, let me know, I'd be glad to help out being a reformed Zips fan from KY!

  6. Nice idea to send some love to the athletic dept! I am impressed with their commitment to moving the entire dept forward. That's damn hard to do, but TW has a plan and he is executing slowly but surely. In the times I have talked to him I have been impressed with his grasp of the issues and his assessment of what we can do about them. Needless to say, there will always be fans who take a contrary opinion. That doesn't bother me because I love their passion. They want the Zips to get better and sometimes assume things can easily be changed. Most of the time they can't. If they could they would have been changed earlier.

Akron has a lot to be proud of:

    - Coach I is bringing strong leadership to the football program

    - Soccer had an exhibition today and drew 2,835, we could be top five in attendence this year

    - Tennis is a kick ass program now

    - Womens soccer could crack top 25 this season

    - Track and field is the best program in the state

    - Womens basketball has a chance to rule the MAC (please tell me Kyle Baumgarter didn't transfer)

    - KD has retooled basketball with the potential to be a dominant mid major

    - Our facilities tell the world we have lofty aspirations and our President will demand we get there

If that doesn't get you pumped up you need to go to Can't and prepare for a slow death. :screwks:

I don't think it's too patronizing to thank the athletics staff for giving us a lot to believe in.

Funny you mention tennis, since Coach Wyshner is starting his new job at Wake Forest on Monday.

  7. Here's a nugget of fun information for your Friday:Did you know.....That the KHSAA had a deal with Scott County that if any kid transfers into Scott County because his or her parents had taken a job at the Toyota plant that they do not have to sit out a season like kids at other schools throughout the state. I don't know if Euton falls into that category or not, it's beside the point, but if you look at Scott County teams going back to the late 90's (which correlates with the construction of the Toyota plant) it's no surprise they have been a state contender almost every single year. I'm sure (insert sarcasm here) there are no politics at work in a "basketball" state such as Kentucky to have the best high school basketball team possible. A lot of Toyota's government incentives they were given when they built that plant have either expired or are about to, I don't know if this is any exception, but it didn't hurt to put Scott County basketball on the map 10+ years ago.The real question is however, is there any correlation between one's ability to be a good basketball parent, and one's ability to install gas pedals?

  8. I'm glad someone mentioned halftime, last night was TERRIBLE! WTF was up with that dance group? And the girls in the hamster balls, they weren't even trying. If you're going to put people in hamster balls, pick people who are enthusiastic about being in hamster balls!

  9. I would like to add one more complaint about the team shop. I was at the women's game last night and it was closed. Seems to me, anytime you have any kind of gathering of the public (however large or small) the team shop should be open. I'm sure there are reasons behind this, such as justifying paying someone to staff it vs. amount likely to be sold, but a women's basketball game most likely would come in second to men's basketball for attendance at the JAR and VS Kant no less. I actually wanted to look at the Nike basketball sweatshirts, but no dice.

  10. According to footballscoop.com the Zips have removed the Strength Coach Dan Bailey and Director of Football Operations Darryl Weston. This tells me they are close to hiring a coach. He must be bringing these positions with him.I can confirm the Bailey part. I was told this today before reading footballscoop.com.
There's no new coach making these decisions, the entire staff was let go at once, including Bailey. They have until Friday to be out and return their cars (so I've heard).I think this season speaks for itself as far as strength and conditioning goes. Granted, some of the injuries probably couldn't be helped with all the conditioning in the world, but something's gotta give. Rifle guys, I also have heard complaints about the weight room staff from some of the non-revenue sports. Apparently they do a hack job of developing a sport specific workout program, you are not alone.
  11. What I like most is 4 of 6 games you listed are away games, considering I'll be at all home games, this makes me happy. I picked up the Sports Package on UVerse and now can watch all FSN channels. At just 10 dollars a month, it's totally worth it to me, once basketball season starts there are games on every night. Last night I watched Louisville almost get spanked by lowly Georgetown College. I'm so pumped for basketball season!!

  12. I'm not ready to count Rodgers out just yet. I don't think we can necessarily give him a fair evaluation after last weekend. I predict that he'll have an ok performance this weekend at Central, but then he's got two weeks to take some serious snaps at practice. I look for him to be a completely different QB by the time we see him again at the Info.

  13. 4. Tailgating needs to start 5-6 hours before game. For a 3:30 game, I would love to start at around 9:30/10, then hit BW-3 and then Zipsfest. Need more time to take it all in!!!
It is my understanding that the "lots open 4 hours before kickoff" is just a formality. We arrived at 9:30 on Saturday and had an awesome time. I would have loved to have seen more people there early. I plan on getting there by 10-10:30 this weekend.
  14. I loved the band marching through campus, when they stopped next to where we were tailgating by the fieldhouse and started the haunting "Goooo Zips, Beat the Bears" chant I got a chill. I won't be tailgating there this weekend, but am definitely gonna make sure I get back over to the fanzone in time to see it again.

  15. What paint (for lack of a better term) did you use as a finish for the board? I tried doing a custom set a year ago and the finish turned out to be too slick.
Sorry to hear that, I hate really slick boards, my boss has a set made out of an old bar top and unless you hit the hole you can't hold em.I stained the wood, which leaves them less slick than paint. Then I applied 2 coats of polyurethane just to protect the paint on the logos, and give them a little shine.
