  1. Any idea how many students have picked up their bands so far? I want this stadium PACKED.My visual blue band assessment of the student attendance is mediocre at best. It isn't very accurate because most of people I talk to are going with the cut and tape strategy on gameday.
Just heard there is in the neighborhood of 500 tickets left of 7,000 that were made available. I expect them to all be gone early next week.

The university started to distribute 5,500 of the free wristbands to students on a first-come, first-serve basis this week. With about 4,000 student wristbands already gone and public seats selling at a steady clip, UA interim Athletic Director Hunter Yurachek is cautiously optimistic the $61.6 million facility will be at capacity on opening day.
...and so far no complaining in the article!! I'm proud of you guys :P They also stated that taped bands will be accepted, which is good news for the 3800/4000 fans who cut it off. Lets keep it goin guys!! Time to get those tickets
One thing is for sure though, there's not an athletic department in the country that is 100% honest about attendance numbers, so I'm just gonna quit believing everything I hear and not worry about it cause I'll be there, and that's all that matters to me. :)

  3. The Clearinghouse is a funny thing, a lot of times problems come up because of lack of communication between high schools and the NCAA. When I sent mine in, they said that I was missing a laboratory science even though I had taken physics for two years. At my high school physics was considered a lab science (weird that they would think it wasn't), but they failed to register that with the NCAA. It took me all summer to get it straight but I was finally eligible before season started.Moral of the story, NCAA is bureaucratic and mindless red tape and paperwork consumes them. Don't sweat the details till gametime.

  4. Don't know if it has been mentioned lately, and I'm too lazy to go searching through this insanely long thread, but I heard yesterday from a facilities person that the grass area is not going to be used this season for seating. Only if there is a sellout and they need the overflow room, they want to give it a chance to take root, which is understandable. That being said, I for one want to see students in that area, so I am inviting everyone I know out to games....just doing my part. :)

  5. I have been to bad weather soccer games and seen plenty of Rowdies, I assume that the stadium being on campus will bring em out. I really hope they get the hill finished in time, I think it is going to give the stadium the most character over any other aspect, given the right amount of participation.

  6. I wonder if the spike last season was partially due to people buying the season ticket package that included tickets to the rubber bowl last season and Info this season? I know a friend of mine, who is an alumni and 25 year season ticket holder to suckeye state, did that just cause he wanted tickets to the new stadium. In fact he told me last night that he is planning to skip the osu game at Browns Stadium to come to the Indiana game at Info. I was floored when he said that.

  7. This seems like a win-win. Great hire for Marshall getting a hometown boy with a good resume, and now we don't have to worry about competing with them for candidates. I hope we get word soon of a short list.
Believe me, we were never competing with Marshall for an A.D. Good news for Hamrick ... no more money wasted buying shoes.
Yeah, I'd like to put faith in the search committee and hope you are right. Maybe if I rephrased that "now we don't have to worry about Marshall wanting to compete with us for candidates!"
  8. How about Roo-dogs with a side of Roo-chos and top it off with a Roo-Dew. Then after halftime you could get yourself a Roo-corn, or a Roo-etzel. Man with that kind of creative thinking I should work for our marketing department, anybody know if they're hiring?

  9. Every othe sport - I could really care less and if the great GP1 doesn't care, neither should anyone else.
I'm sorry, but this comment really bothers me and since you have every right to say what you want, as well as I, I would just like to call you out and say, speak for yourself. No hard feelings though, just don't tell me what sports to root for.
  10. I agree Big.Does it really matter? I say there is enough parity in the division that we have the same chance of getting to the finals no matter if we are a 1, 3, or 4. The first round bye is the most important thing at this point, but why would you not want to win the regular season division title just to get a supposed "easier" route to the finals?

  11. “It (transferring) allowed me to play with much better players,” Snyder said. “I’ll be around a lot better people. The coaching staff is a lot better there, it’s not even comparable. They want to help you get better in all aspects of your life.”Knocking your old teammates and coaches like that shows no level of professionalism IMO, and this guy wants to play on tour? Good luck finding sponsors, people don't really like a**holes. Tiger, Phil, Vijay, Sergio, the list of positive tour personalities goes on and on, there's a reason a lot of people don't like players like Monte.

  12. We won't be nearly as dependent on the payday games with the new stadium. Our home attendance will improve and we'll be able to get bigger programs to come to Akron. We should try to get Pitt and WV here and maybe Cinci on a regular basis. Service Academies would be welcome also and maybe a Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Duke, Northwestern, etc. We should also be able to get some good 1-AA's like JMU, WKU, Appy-Tate, etc. It might also be fun to get a 1-1 deal with Fla. schools like UCF, USF or FAU.
The only I-AA school I would even consider wanting us to schedule is YSU because of the rivalry and potential for a large crowd. Otherwise, it's not worthwhile and would contribute to the stigma that we have a second class program.
I would love to see us Play YSU on a semi-regular basis.
What makes you think we would beat YSU on a regular basis?
What makes you think we wouldn't?
Bet Michigan said that last year about App. St.
  13. I'm pretty sure the NCAA prohibits the sale of alcohol at all athletic contests that are held on campus. But alcohol sales are permtitted in suites and loges.
I think the decision on alcohol sales is ultimately up to the conference, after the individual school. I know a guy from Georgia who says the SEC has a ban on alcohol sales at all athletic events, which is mind boggling to me. Football and beer, what a great marriage.
