  1. ....Just please don't go back to those HORRIBLE yellow and navy uniforms (a la Geen Bay) from teh late 90's early '00's. I love the fact that they keep their uniforms fresh and new...so I don't mind seeing new white, blue, and even gold uniforms. I'd love to see an alternate White or blue helmet....just none of that hideous Green Bay Look-alikes....that was attrocious.
  2. I have to say, Charlie looked pretty good. It definitely looks like he'll be able to hang around the league for a few more years. He just looks a lot more mature and poised than when he was in Cleveland...and he still has the wheels!Am I the only one to notice he has some potent velocity on his passes? CF had some serious mustard on some fo those throws.
  3. "Thumb in keester"...? Somebody has watched too many reruns of Full House - as long as you've suceeded in entertaining yourself.
  4. Well then you haven't been reading many of the threads on here, and while we're in the process of calling board contributions worthless, your latest post is worthless. I've said it at least twice now that my post had NOTHING to do with the quality of kids in any particular part of the country, it was ALL about college football D-1 programs, specifically the Top 25, and their geographic distribution.Again, post if you have something to say about the thread, but please don't waste my (or anybody else's) time by posting that you're not interested in this thread. I wouldn't do that to you. You shouldn't do it to me.Like I said, perhaps I've missed something - and you could've pointed out what I've missed, if that is the case. You could've referenced a debate to provide clarity for me....but since we're on it, take the time to COMPREHEND - READ. I don't call anyone or anyone's contribution "worthless".I said the premise of this thread is without merit due to the fact I have yet to see what you're arguing. Get your diction-game up before you choose to insult somebody. My point had everything to do with your argument. You reference warm weather programs. Those programs primarily recruit from southern states (southern athletes), so YES, this would relate to the 'quality' of the athletes. However, I won't WASTE your time any further pointing out what you apparently didn't comprehend.Carry-on.......and like I said, your posts in this thread are worthless, or perhaps I should use the term "meritless" as you did. Perhaps in "football country" there is a meaningful difference between the two terms in the context of this discussion.Carry on....The value you place on my post is "worthless" and your apparent fragile nature is without "merit"....so yes, I shall,"carry-on". We have clarity in 'Football Country'.

  6. WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!Maybe I'm completely missing something here, but I don't recall ANYBODY making an argument that 'warm-weather ' football programs were better. What HAS been talked about is the conditioning of high school athletes in the south being more conducive to speed, which may, might, maybe give southern conferences an advantage in regards to 'team-speed' - NOT that they're better programs....clearly, if you're a college football fan you'd should know better than that...just look at this current bowl season. This thread is completely meritless IMO - this has never been the argument.
  7. Jaycevs brings up very valid points, particularly about it being cyclical. I personally prefer a Pro-Style system over all others.
  8. I can't think of one elite NFL QB under 32 that didn't play in either a spread offense or at least one geared toward passing. Brees was from Purdue, but he grew up in Texas and Purdue runs a spread style offense. Roethlisberger ran a spread type offense at Miami. Tennessee was almost completely dependent upon Manning's arm. Brady went to Michigan but was a California kid who understood how to pass and wasn't very good in their offense at UM. Palmer won the Heisman because of his arm, not USC's defense and running game. Rivers is from NC and went to NC State where they threw constantly.Alabama is absolutely loaded with talent and it makes more traditional offenses easier to run. The spread is a good offense with only a couple of good players and lesser talent. WVU under Rodrigues had Slaton, White and Henry and that was about it. That's why they HAD to run the spread. The NFL game today is much different that even 10 years ago. Trent Dilfer is the best commentator on today's NFL and he always says the league is about QBs, WRs and coaches. Is it coincidence that the elite QBs are also the ones in the playoffs this season? Favre is not under 32, but he is an elite NFL qb. The rules in the NFL are geared toward passing....you can't touch a receiver after five yards (this penalty results in automatic first down)....if you breath on one while the ball is in the air or you get a penalty...any shot to the QBs head is a 15 year penalty...if you tackle the QB too low you get a penalty...the list could go on. Smash mouth football teams don't win the big games in the NFL anymore. The Steelers lost AFC Championship one after another until Cowher realized he needed to turn the ball over to his QB. Minnesota will not even go to the Super Bowl because they are a smash mouth team. Cincy will not win one playoff game because their coach will go Cowher and run the ball too much in the playoffs. San Diego is better because their QB is more productive and Tomlinson is less productive.Since this is a Zips board, I'll bring it all around. If the Zips ignore the fact that they have a QB with an NFL arm and start running the ball too much, they will continue to lose. The Zips badly need to find two good wide receivers for next year for Nicely to throw to. With improvements in his accuracy, I believe Nicely can be the winner we have been looking for. All they need to do on defense is show some level of ability and they should be able to win.I hope going into next year, all of you on this board make a resolution to stop thinking about college football as if it is the 1950s. It will greatly help the Great GP1 utilize his time in educating you guys and bringing our fan base into the 21st Century. I'm going to go get drunk now and I don't plan on posting tomorrow. On Saturday, I'm going to Hilton Head for a couple of nights ($40 per night at hotels) to walk the beach and go to the Jazz Corner on Sunday night to see one of my favorite bands. I don't want any more 1950s posts between now and when I get back Monday afternoon.Happy New Year from the Great GP1 and Mrs. GP1, the luckiest woman in the world!Uh yeah. You completely lost me at Trent Dilfer being the best commentator on the NFL today. That.Is.Wrong.^^ I've gotta co-sign that!!
  9. Baseball?.....zzzzzzzz.Now back to real sports....
  10. ^^This is a very moot factor at best. What we take for granted or simply do not know is that in the southern states, their Track Seasons start far earlier than up North. Also, State rules are more strict in the north regarding Track & Field than in the south. If you think this has no impact, just check the state records for sprints in northern states vs. the south. It affects the overall speed and muscle-conditioning which may give a slight, but certain advantage to conferences like the SEC.Compounded by the fact that the BigTen's 'game' hasn't evolved as fast as other conferences. It's just like the Auto Industry - The domestics didn't evolve until they were the laughing stock and they lost market-share. They currently - realistically make some of the best cars (i.e. Ford & GM, not Chrysler), but still are perceived as inferior. The Midwest still has some of the best athletes, but we're still behind in evolving our game to match the new benchmarks (i.e. SEC, Big 12 South). This doesn't mean we can't compete. Let's face it, Alabama plays 'Big 10' football and smashed Florida which plays purely 'SEC' football. So it's not like it can't be done. It's all about scheme and strategy. It would go a long way if the OHSAA would lax the rules.Curious what rules are you referring to?The OHSAA has rules that govern when high school athletes can practice, train, etc. They're a lot stricter in Big 10 states vs. SEC states.A lot of the states in the south track seasons start earlier which gives provides an advantage in regards to speed & conditioning for football. While I do not like to use this as a crutch, it is a fact. While Ohio/midwest athletes are by no means 'slow' as some perceive, the warm weather of the south provides an advantage. They have spring football in the south which again, provides another distinct advantage for student-athletes. In OH, you can't even have organized practice until July, let alone organized passing scrimmages.

  12. I posted some jersey ideas I had, might be what you are talking about. I lost that file, but I made some new ones...YES!! VMD, those are sweet!!Imagine the white jersey, blue pants with the alternative blue helmet!!Or the clean all-white uniforms with an alternative white helmet!!Thanks for posting those...again, I hope the Athletic/PR dept is paying attention.
  13. As I recall these gloves were designed by a honest to goodness native American named " Hole in the head where my ear should be." There is something wonderfully wrong with you. This is one of your best   Enough with the compliments. Let's get back to reading FCountry's post while my nipples are still hard. ...I hope they're not hard because of the crotch-shot of the Oregon baseball player's uniform..
  14. I love the fact that we keep a fresh look, and l like this past season's home uniforms a lot. I'm a football junkie, but I do consider uniforms to be apart of the whole package and I can't stand stale, old uniforms. Having updated uniforms also is a source of funding from team paraphenalia.~I liked Lee Owens, but the uniforms from his era were absolutely ATTROCIOUS! We should NEVER go back that that style of uniform! NEVER!!~Put the player's last name back on the uniform. We are not Penn St.....they have been wearing throwback uniforms since the 1800's.....it's sickening.~Although this is expensive, I would love to see an 'alternate' helmet a couple of times per season....a blue helmet with a gold 'A' would be NICE!!!~Although Oregon gets eccentric with their uniforms, I love their passion for the program, which includes the uniforms. Somtimes it's a hit....sometimes it's a miss.~Ohio State rocked some of the COLDEST 'new-age throwbacks' I've seen this season against that team up north. I get tired of the 40's-era-I-only-have-pants-in-only-one-color uniforms (a la PSU, Alabama, Iowa, etc, zzzzzzzzz). They need to rock the throwbacks more often...maybe even some black jerseys as some blogs have suggested. There's a thread on here from a couple of years ago where someone photoshopped white, gold, & blue uniforms with alternate helmets....they were NICE!! Maybe someone can repost those pics in this thread??As a fan, I don't want to see any old, stale, uncharismatic uniforms. Let's keep it fresh & modern reflecting the excitement and hope for the program. Uniforms naturally do not make the team, but as you can see by these threads alone, it gets the fans attention and that's what a growing fan-base needs.
  15. Count me as another UA supporter frustrated by the lack of attention by the Cleveland media. However, I think some of the blame lies with "Greater Akron" and what I perceive to be our "inferiority complex"; big-brother to the north (Cleveland market) & South (Ohio State). Even Can't State gets more attention from CLE, and despite what they would have you believe, Can't State is part of the AKRON market, not Cleveland. No disrespect to my fellow Clevelanders on here.We don't do the best job of covering our own local sports. If I'm not mistaken, I believe we're still the largest city in America w/out it's own news broadcast, and that off-brand 23 News doesn't count. It would help immensely if we actually had a legitimate news broadcast. We cannot count on big-brother to the north to provide us the exposure we need. UA and Greater Akron will need to be more aggressive with marketing and creating brand-equity throughout NE Ohio.If CSU fields a football team, so be it. I could care less, although it would futher dillute the talent pool for recruiting. I believe its up to UA and its supporters to continue building upon the synergies we have in place currently. I'm not satisfied with just being one of several D-1 schools in Ohio. I want people in AZ to recognize who UA is. The reality is, that starts with a school's FOOTBALL program. We'll need to build consistent success, build strong partnerships with the media, and become more aggressive building the school in general and promoting it.Infocision Stadium in '09Next: A new arena for the basketball team....hopefully.
