That article is actually from SounderAtHeart, IMO the best Sounders blog out there. Seattle Sports Central just rips off other articles then throws in a mention down at the bottom.

Next year's starting XI
TheTank123 replied to yazan07's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I just don't think Trapp will get pulled out of the middle, although it is possible. Our RM falls inside a lot more than most. -
Is Caleb listed as a part of the coaching staff, guest instructor...? Inquiring minds... I can tell you that in the last camp DeA went to he was an official assistant along with Vidovich from Wake and Lolla from Louisville. I know Porter has gone out of the country a few times with the team so my guess is that he is a permanent assistant coach (notice how there aren't any spring games scheduled during this week). Yep, he'll continue to assist with the U-18 this summer. After Portland, its onto Lisbon, Portugal in May, and then to Northern Ireland for a International Tournament in July. The only reason I know, is I asked Coach Porter himself back in February First question in the video I'm curious to see if Porter will continue to assist with the youth programs next year. I know he's been working with the US U-18 the last two years and he like to takeover Coach Sweats job someday. I knew I had heard him say it somewhere, I just couldn't remember where. Good find. And he'd be crazy not to continue, it's the perfect recruiting tool. Some more info from U18 camp. Coach Porter is the only Assistant Coach on the roster (other than the GK coach) so we know he's going to be working closely with all the kids. They did SPARQ testing yesterday (Nike's sport specific speed/power/fitness testing) measuring the 20 yard dash, the arrow run, the vertical jump, and the Beep Test.

GK: Meves LB: Culbertson CB: Barson CB: Gallego RB: Yedlin RM: Caldwell CM: Speas CM: Trapp LM: F: Holmes F: Mattocks That's my guess. It's possible that Gallego could get bumped up into Kitchen's CDM spot, or Trapp falls back into that same spot. No idea who is on the left though. -

Just a quick FYI: Both Wil Trapp and DeAndre Yedlin will be attending the U18 MNT camp in Portland, OR from April 16-24th. Bryan Gallego never seems to go these camps but is the captain of the U18 MNT so I assume he will be on their next road trip. Coach Porter texted DeA telling him that he would see him there so this is a great opportunity for both the players and coach to become better acquainted with one another. Plus, you know Coach Porter will be throwing out "Now if this was Akron's system, I'd want you to do this..." which will only help the learning curve.

Geez, don't be so nice, people are going to think all Zips fans are! But seriously, who would we contact at Akron to make these available? I already am a fully paying member of Zipzone...seems a bit much to buy season tickets when I live in Boston!!! Season tickets are actually quite reasonable. I only got to use mine once last year but I buy them to help support the team. They want to keep these scarves exclusive to their season ticket holders, but as I think has been mentioned before even buying the cheapest ticket to support the ladies ($40) will still net you a scarf. Mildly expensive scarf but dirt cheap support of the teams. Isn't there a different soccer scarf that can be purchased in the team store as well? I'm too close to having graduated to worry about giving back to any kind of school. Student loans are my charity right now :-) I am bidding on that Ebay scarf, however.

UNC Head Coaching Job
TheTank123 replied to TheTank123's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Honestly, no. He wanted to win a national championship and play professionally. This is the place to do that. Once he knew that there was mutual interest there was no other place he was going to go. -
Let's hope Coach Porter's name doesn't come up in the search :-) http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/m-socce...occer-body.html

I trust your "very reliable source" over a random live chat posting. So, is Gallego coming or no? Anyone? Here it is: Kinnelon Athletes Sign Letters of Intent Good looks ZipMe. Can anyone confirm Trapp having signed today? That would be the last, no?

IM EXCITING TO BE A ZIP AND HOPE TO ROCK THE SOCCER FEILD ONCE IM THERE Hey man, you still with RSL (AZ)? Awesome. Akron now has 3 of the Top 10 recruits (according to TopDrawer) coming their way! They have a livechat up for National Signing Day> http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/livechat This was just posted in the above link: [Comment From Zip1508 Zip1508: ] Verbal commit to Akron has failed to fax through NLI. Insiders believe he's had his head turned by a west coast school Anyone know what/who that's all about? Yeah, any information on this would be great. The only person I can think of would be Gallego. He is not an Ohio kid and Chiu and Yedlin have already signed.

Soccer 2011 recruiting class
TheTank123 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Wasn't it Korb at left back and Valentin/Barson in the center? Correct. That was the back line all year except for the games Kofi missed with injury (Balogun in place of him). Is the sports department doing anything for the soccer team or just the football NLI's? -
Signing day is tomorrow.....................................................

TopDrawerSoccer Top 100 Final List
TheTank123 replied to TheTank123's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
College Soccer news released their top 150 list also: http://collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page610.htm Trapp at 5, Yedlin at 12, Gallego at 21, Culbertson at 41 and Chiu at 100. Looks like UNC, Wake and Indiana also have some good classes coming on. And where the heck did Furman come from from? 17,18,20,41,98 and 148. Wow. Wow! Maybe Zips will rebound better than we thought. Furman: Looks like the Purple Paladins are back! Keep in mind this list doesn't take into account the transfers or whatever international kids Caleb pulls out of his hat...and you know there's gonna be a few. -

In my opinion, the top 25ish guys are the clear cut best players out there. After that it gets murky as to who is really better than who. -

Gallego, Trapp and Yedlin are all in the top 10, clocking in at 10th, 5th and 7th respectively. Chiu isn't ranked nationally but is #10 in a tough Texas region. Not a bad core to start with.
