  1. Coach Kest and WBB will team-up with Coach D and MBB on Saturday for an Akron hoops double-header at the JAR......... Buy a ticket to the women's game vs. Can't and you'll be able to stay for the men's game against OU ( your ticket for WBB will get you into the GA seating for MBB ). Ticket info is available at 888-99-AKRON or by checking out gozips.com.

Listen to both games on Fox Sports 1350, with the Zips clashing with the Flashes at 1 while the men meet Ohio U. at 4 ( you can also catch " live " audio and video of both games at gozips.com ).

If you have any questions about WBB, post 'em here and I'll try and answer them or you can e-mail me at bmorganakronzips@hotmail.com. For those who don't know, I do the radio play-by-play for WBB on 1350.

Nice to be on the zipsnation board.......... I enjoy the passion of the Zips fans who post here !!!

    Hey ya, Bill

This Zips Women's basketball season has pretty much put me in a depression. It is such a shame what happened to Tecca, and the way the girls have lost recently is stomach numbing. Hopefully the can figure out how to win these close ball games without their star...which obviously will not be an easy thing to do!

  2. He does have an impact..might not be as big as some on here might think, but there is some. Zeke Marshall said that LeBron being around the JAR in the NBA offseason was a factor on him coming here. Same with others...may not be a big factor in them coming here, but if they have a choice between two schools and they are very similar, but one has an NBA superstar that comes back a few times in offseason, while the other one doesn't, it could be an impact...

Superstar is such an understatement. Lebron James is the NBA, people even call him KING Lebron, or KING James. Even with no rings, he is bigger than the league. It really is amazing just how good that guy is.

  3. Via Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba

DAMMIT!!!!!!!! Again???? And on a last-second shot?!?! We led the ENTIRE way until the final :30 or so, the lose on a damn last-second shot......HEARTBREAKING!!! Eight GD years in a row Akron has now won IN our house.....

  4. Ugh. The passive aggressive homerism is killing me. "Oh he got an extra step but drew the foul..." "Oh, he travelled first but they call the foul..."

I'm listening to French, and he is also speaking poorly of the officials..

  5. Hated to see Harney with headphones on on the sidelines, just low class.

He was probably just listening to Frenchy and Dunn.

What problem I had was he had a hat on as well. He clearly did not look like a professional. It's not a huge deal but I would have liked him to show some respect towards his teammates and the program.

A hat as well? Well, that settles it....someone call the cops. How is listening to music and wearing a hat not respectful to his teammates? Yikes, did it turn into the 1950s in here again?

The fact that he is wearing a hat indoors is disrespectful. Do you not know anything about manners?

  7. Something that I have noticed is that instead of going for the monster blocks at every possible moment, he has also backed away and settled for affecting the shot just with his presence. Their have been many occasions recently where he just put his hands up and the ball bounced off the rim.

  8. I'll get it Euph...They're playing the song during rehearsal for the game. Most bands play the away team fight song during pregame, Ohio State even did it in 2007 while spelling out "ZIPS" on the field. They even played it this year. Don't believe me? Check
But there's no way they'd play Michigan's fight song.. right? Surely not with the "greatest college rivalry on the planet." Wait! What's this right around the
I haven't marched the last two years. I did three including two at the Rubber Bowl where we would get there at 8 am in uniform to rehearse, then wait in the stands will the team did their warm ups, play at the Heisman Lodge for the rich guys and donors, then make the rounds by the tailgating lots before doing pregame, cheering the whole game that started at 2 then jumping in our school busses to leave after 9 hours when most of the team was long gone. The band is cheering every down at every game and gives their Saturdays to do it. That means they lose out on tailgating, hanging with their friends and having the option to leave when the team is sucking as bad as they do know. Every year they play the day after Thanksgiving game all 180 of them go home for a few hours or completely miss out on spending Thanksgiving with their family alltogether and then come back the next morning to cheer for the game which we would usually lose. You're gonna rip on them for being glad it's time to go home when the team has given up? Between football games, band shows, hosting
, and band-o-rama this weekend is the first time since the week before classes started (the end of August) where they have had the weekend off. Now you say, "But they get payed!" By the time they buy marchign shoes, the ball cap, two t-shirts, and a polo they're lucky if they break even after buying lunch at band camp. As far as the basketball games if the band wasn't taking up half of one side then there would be an empty side and a half of floor seats at EVERY game. Fill up the rowdies sections for more then the Can't game and then you can start your whining about how they're cramping your style. I know you're new, but there have a been a lot of times where the band has been about the only ones cheering at the basketball games early in the season or over break while a majority of the "Rowdies" are texting their friends and ignoring the game completely. All that cheering you hear on TV during the NCAA games vs. Gonzaga and Notre Dame is the band and the parents who could afford to make the trip. We usually ALL carpool to watch and cheer at the Can't game and 6 of us went to Buffalo two years ago over a long weekend and were the only Akron students there. You're clueless, completely off base and straight up wrong. This rag on the band stuff never happened when we were winning more then one game a year. Go find some football players to yell at for giving up at the last game before you start griping about the band being happy they get to get out of the cold for the first time in 6 hours that day. /endrant
1st paragraph That is the dumbest thing in the history of sports. Why would you play the other teams fight song? especially your rivals. That is straight up wrong. 2nd paragraphThe band does not do any of that now a days. All they do is gather at gazzette (sp?) play a small concert of sorts (in front of like nine people) then march to the football game. That's it, don't act like the 2011 band works so hard all day and is tired. They do nothing compared to what you mentioned. 3rd paragraphThat is rubbish. People DO NOT want to sit down in the student section because the band plays every single second that they possibly can. It is straight up obnoxious. 4 paragraphNothing you wrote applies to anything. You rambled on and on without making a single rational thought.EDIT: sorry for the double postAlso, you mentioned nothing about the band disrupting our chants. They have no since of the flow of the game or why the chants take place. They would rather just scream in the middle of them because its "funny"

  11. I have been a huge opponent of the band playing the other team's fight song since I made my way onto campus about a year and a half ago. You will all be shocked to find out that when I traveled to Ohio State and Cincinnati this year, neither band played the Blue and Gold. But, The band has now drifted into traitor territory. Yesterday, and I am would be willing to bet throughout this week and definitely next week, Akron's Band was/will be playing the Can't State fight song that you could/can hear all over campus. This is just simply wrong. We are rivals! Why is our band playing their song? Last week, when Akron almost came back to win, the band could have cared less. In fact, when the band director said, "alright guys lets go home" They all cheered and celebrated a lot louder than they ever do during the game. They acted like nothing on the football field happened. Then not to mention, the BAND LOVES to disrupt our basketball cheers. When we chant "lets go zips", the Band does some stupid crap that completely disrupts the rhythm (which is why we cheer, to help the offense find a rhythm). Oh, and by the way, you should not be taking up three quarters of the Rowdies student section. There is a huge label above that is marked with "BAND", why don't you sit there...where you belong? Stop playing the other teams fight song and stop acting like you give a damn about Akron sports.

  12. On one hand, I'd say I'm not impressed with this team, but maybe the bar was set high from some people that have seen them.On the other hand, I hate judging teams on these D-3 games, since coaches would rather work on things instead of going for a big win. i.e. lob it to zeke every time and win by 50. So I'll hold my judgement until the MSU game. Gilliam is a baller.
I kind of wish this was the offense though.
  13. I'm about to blow ya'lls mind. I am sick of building a baseball field over there behind Cub Cadent. There is no reason for that when UA can strike a deal with the Aeros and play in that ball park. That would be ideal for sure. Then, we take that space where the baseball field is and build the basketball arena. That way we have Info and the new basketball arena right next to each other, plus the baseball team will get to play at a minor league (great) stadium. The JAR is....excuse me, A DUMP. The eye sore that is those blue seats are sickening. Akron deserves better.
I dont think a deal can be struck with the aeros for daily practice and all our games at canal park...too much wear and tear and the lease would be prohibitive. Maybe baseball and track could move south of exchange if university park alliance can get the land.
Wait, the baseball team practice's? ;)

  15. My favorite 'non Rowdie' Rowdie moment was the March at Tulsa last year. Akron, in attempt to make students get to the game sooner, told us that they were only going to allow 2,000 (or so) students in for free. So during the march, you could tell all the students stood there worried that they would not get in. When the team finally made their way through the tunnel, instead of marching and chanting as one, it turned into what was almost a dead sprint to the gate.

I made a joke with a friend that Zippy elbowed me and knocked me over because she was worried about not getting in. It litterally became a bullrush to the entrence. I am pretty sure EVERYONE got in.

I too noticed a lot of standing around. I can understand if you have an attractive lady on the hook and you are more intrested in reeling her in than chanting. But if you are just going to stand there with your thumb up your *** please don't try to get to the front.

I was standind behind the net, and there were these fools standing in front, in their underwear, not doing anything. Like painting up was enough. Sickening.

Another Sickening thing was a smell that kept coming from somewhere. It smelled like a horrible BO or dirty cloths or both. I don't know what it was, but please don't go into a large, hot crowd stinking, use common sense.

I love the Rowdies, I really do. I have been around for a while now (thrid year). I am not too active in the officer bussiness but I do get loud and cheer on my zippers. I wish others were like me and people around here.

  16. so much for having true Zip fans...

Where do you draw the line? You been to many swim meets lately? If not are you a "true Zip fan"?

Personally I'm with Jacob, I can think of more things than I have time to list that I'd rather do than attend a women's soccer match... I don't think that makes me any less of a Zips fan, it just means I don't really care for women's soccer.

I think the main question is, if Women Soccer would turn into a power house like Men's Soccer, would you go to it then? If you say yes, then you are less of a Zip fan than Mes, if you say no, then you don't care about women soccer.

Personally, If Swimming was really really good, and competing for national titles, I still probably wouldn't go to often.

  17. Its great to see the Women's team competing well against good soccer teams. Last year CSU went 9-8-2 and was third in the Horizon. Though the Zips are 'suppose' to beat CSU last year is a prime example of how CSU was able to compete against Akron teams. The fact that the Lady Zips where able to put down that squad in what seems to be blowout fashion is just awesome.

By the way, number 7 is Ashley Hughes.
