  1. I think they will recruit heavy JUCO this year, and then try to normalize. It is possible that some of the JUCO guys they have already spoken with might get offers, just wait till the end if the quiet period to see how many are MS and TX kids Let me stop drinking the Bowden Kool Aide for a 2nd and digest this posting. For going after JUCO kids this year realize this staff has extensive contacts with JUCO Coaches, reality is December 21st as come and gone which means 99% of the JUCO players have signed with FBS,FCS and Div2 schools. What is left is players who still have grade issuses or those that no other D1 (perhaps D2) wanted. Let me guess this staff will find the sleepers. While I put the Kool Aide down I am also less then thrilled about hiring an Assistant Coach who never played /coached the game of football till he started to date a Bowden. I guess one is qualified to Coach at D1 if you were an"intern" coach at a school were your Grandfather was a legend and then your father in law gets a Head Coaching job. As to better then last year staff.
  2. For those that posted early about the West Virginia connection ,Congrats! I'll hire my brother and now it looks like my son-in-law, heck in this recession good jobs are hard to find . Need to have my daughter's husband with a good D1 job.
  3. Agree with previous posting, need to have some young assistant coaches with ties to the mideast &midwest states. Not going that way yet.
  4. By adding 6-8 JuCo players you mean next year (december 2012) because LOI Day for JuCo players was 2 weeks ago and most of them signed.
  5. DQ Johnson decommits to go to North Texas instead Can not blame Johnson for switiching to North texas, Akron had not named Coach when it was time to sign LOI. Spring Ball should be interesting this year, will probably have to limit scrimages due to lack of players.Everyone will be listed on the 2 deep depth chart.
  6. Agree let Glen Mason be the stable factor this program needs NOW,Let him hire young aggressive coaches to bring some fire back to the program.Mason as won were others have flatered
  7. Tressel is waiting to see how many JuCo players sign witht he Zips today(Dec. LOI Day for JuCo players) to fill in the holes on the Defense. After seeing that the class fell apart Tressel will not come to Akron. Who is running this hiring fair gor a coach?
  8. Hats off to Coach Winters, played the game to the end. Let me get a pay raise, contract extension and less pressure at a D2 school. May not liked what he did but the execution was perfect!
  9. Agree we look like a bunch of clowns that just threw a month of recruiting time away, will be interesting when this is finally done if you have any JuCOs left in this class. For the Tressel help maybe this is his revenge for not hiring his guy 2 years ago.
  10. For those that think Special Teams play is important, how impressed were you that Wayne State had a Punt & Field Goal blocked today?
  11. Can only home that when new Coach starts building recruiting class of 2013 (we are screwed for 2012) Zips staff takes a more realistic approach to targeted players. Competing against the Big Ten & East for talent does not work at Akron. Need to go after initially that OL or DL that can play ball but might be too short for BCS school standards.
  12. Why would people not be impressed with PW time at Wisconsin? Let's put a different "spin" on the story. PW has a problem getting along with the HC who wants PW off the on the field coaching staff. A spot is found in the compliance unit for PW. For bringing up the Rose Bowl and attaching PW to this victory I guess one could because he was working in the Badgers organization. At this time Wisconsin had natural grass do we give the Head Grounds Keeper the same amount of credit as someone working in the compliance unit?
  13. Going into a "Dead Period" and with JuCo players able to committ not to mention the complete lack of talent on Defense (basing this on being at the games and watching CBs afraid to hit) side of the ball like the idea of offering players on the D side of the ball is great. Next week new Coach is named when the "Dead Period" is over offense skill players will be sought based on the style of Offense the new Coach runs.
  14. "GA's have always done recruiting under iCoach " Could be I have no 1st person knowledge but, I'm this was limited to on campus contacts only. NCAA rules limit the amount of coaches that recruit off campus. With the staff fired I'm sure the GAs have hit the road, maybe they can walk into the doors of Ohio High Schools that the recent staff could not find.
  15. We will never know the talent level of the offensive assistant coaches on Coach I staff. I am basing this on my observations while attending the games in person and watching Coach I try and run the offense, he was overwhelmed in the heat of the game. The man is gone so I will refrain frm making comments about lack of clock management or rythum to the offense. I am concern that the only remaining coach was in charge of the D-line that was destroyed by opponents and the Special Teams that were not special at all. Let us hope that he did not cut a deak with the AD to hang around and be part of the new staff.
