  1. I clearly stated the response was by a UC blogger and also provided a link. The Akron QB threw it into the ground. I did not see a RB anywhere near the ball. And the QB was not out of the pocket. I'll never understand the comment "referees should not decide football games". Should they just ignore the rules in the last few minutes of a close game? Allow holding, offsides, and everything else?Good luck to Akron the rest of the season.
  2. Good game by the Zips. They outplayed UC today. UC was very lucky to win. Can UC borrow your QB for the rest of this year?As far as the grounding call goes, according to a UC blogger:"I don’t understand the furor over the intentional grounding call on Akron quarterback Chris Jacquemain. Yes, there was a receiver within a few feet of him when he threw the ball into the ground with about 2 minutes to play. But he was about eight yards behind the line of scrimmage. The pass must cross the line of scrimmage in order for you to avoid the penalty. I don’t know why TV announcers always seem to forget this. As upset as Zips coach J.D. Brookhart looked, it was the correct call. It was intentional grounding all the way."http://gobearcats.cstv.com/sports/blog/spe.../092708aaa.html
  3. I don't know what happened after the first quarter, but during that quarter it looked like the Zips were going to crush UC today. UC really adjusted and shut the Zips down. After the first quarter, your guys gained 36 yards on 29 plays.I wish we had a QB like yours. I know he eventually had a tough day but he is a good looking QB. And your receiver Harvey is a good one.Your defense played well and shut down UC when it counted - holding them to FG tries instead of TD's or the score could have been a little worse.I know there were some questionable calls but I was at the game and did not have the benefit of instant replay. I think overall things evened out.Good luck the rest of the season!
  4. UC opened with a 1-AA team at home, then played Pitt on a Friday night - which is a big night for high school football in this town - probably yours as well. The Miami game should have drawn better as it is a big rivalry.Let's hope for a good crowd this weekend. The Bengals have a bye week (their resurgence has no doubt cost UC some attendance $), the weather will be perfect, and there is a lot going on at UC. Plus UC won last week and that usually gets a few more of the non-hardcore fans to come out of curiosity. If this game were being played in the evening there would be over 25000 - my guess is around 23500 for this one. I hope it's more.
  5. Nippert may be ancient - but it is a very nice football stadium. Contrary to the Akron web site, Nippert is the second largest college football stadium in Ohio - seating 35000. It has been renovated several times - the most recent additions are new field turf, a new end zone section with locker rooms for home and visitng teams, and a new scoreboard with an excellent replayboard. There are no concrete seats whatsoever. Seating includes chair back seats in premium locations, aluminum bench seating with plastic seats bolted on top and back rests, or just aluminum bench seating. And yes - they do sell beer and you can drink it at your seat. Also - be sure and visit the brand new Lindner Center prior to the game - the ground level floor has a UC atheltic/academic hall of fame.Photo Galleryhttp://gobearcats.cstv.com/genrel/042006aab.html
  6. I'm not an expert on tailgating at UC, I tend to meet people at the Cattitude area. But if you get there early, you may be able to find a spot in a lot on campus. If not, your best bet is to park in a lot across the street from the campus. I have tailgated in the Shields School Lot and it is fine - just across the street from the campus and an easy walk to Nippert Stadium.TAILGATE WITH THE BEARCATSTailgating is part of the fun of attending college football games, and fans attending UC home games have several options for their pre-game celebrating. Two on-campus tailgating lots are back again for the 2006 season, and there are FIVE additional off-campus lots from which to choose. That's more than 500 off-campus tailgating spaces! Tailgating not only guarantees a great parking space, but allows you to pack your food, grills, beverages and all the necessary essentials for your very own pre-game party.CAMPUS TAILGATING LOTSPasses are sold on a season basis. 7. Hey - Zips fans - nice message board! It looks like the weather will be perfect for the game Saturday. This will be high school band day so several local/regional bands will be in attendance and will perform at halftime.Catiitude on the Commons is nice and bring your kids also - there is a kids zone in UC's baseball stadium with several inflatable activities - climbing, jumping, etc.UC is also promoting this as 'Bearcats Sports Festival" weekend with volleyball, soccer, and of course the main attraction - the UC - Akron football game.Hope to see many Zips fans in Cincinnati this weekend!
