  1. So let me write this out, just so I understand it (as well as everyone else). Everyday you can vote 50 times. There is a 100pt challenge every WEEK, that you apparently can submit 20 times, and there is a 50pt Social Media 20 times per week.

    So per week one person (one Facebook account/twitter account etc.) can give:

    Voting 50 (7) = 350pts

    Challenge = 2000pts

    Social Media = 1000pts

    Total = 3350pts (per week per person(Facebook account/twitter).

    I highly suggest at tailgating for games, ZipsNations members who have twitter/facebook accounts should complete the Weekly challenge and submit. Easy to do, and we'll help Zippy win!

    Let's get to work ZipsNation!

  2. Perhaps they're using practice to test what the different combinations look like on the field. The other day they had White helmets with blue jersey and gold pants. I do like the gold pants/blue jersey for a game or two...but the white helmet with them?

    Bottom line: I don't care what they look like, so long as we win.

  3. Welcome Dunk!

    Luigi's is excellent: If you venture there bring cash, as they don't accept cards. A local favorite, and a personal favorite of mine, is a place called "Lockeview" which is downtown. It's a grilled cheese/beer place, they also have very good soup. All beers are micro-brews, lot of local beers are good there. Haven't had a beer there that I didn't like. All their breads for the grilled cheese is baked at a local bakery next door. Lockeview was named 1 of the 33 best bars in America by Thrillist.

    Since you say you're a younger fan...perhaps you might like a strip called "Highland Square". It's a short couple mile drive from downtown Akron. There's a couple of nice places there: Mary Coils is a mom and pop Italian place that makes it's own Ice Cream. Aladdin's (A Mediterranean restaurant), Mr. Zubs, a pretty epic local sandwich spot. On the drive to Highland Square you'll drive by LeBron James high school: St. Vincent St. Mary's. Not that it's any big deal...but if you're in to that kinda thing.

  4. Jawon Chisholm is #7...the major impact senior visible to most fans. I'm pretty sure I know why they picked #7. Next year will be #16 (if they do it again).

    Personally GP1, I agree with you. At the very least it should be #14 modeled after the year...or (since we're season ticket holders) make the number customizable...and perhaps charge a couple bucks more as an option. I'd be willing to pay $10, $15 or whatever it is to get a custom number on a jersey.

    This Jersey idea is wonderful I'm glad they began in with basketball and have carried it over to football. Hopefully they will continue this in to the future, great for families with kids!

  5. The $5 jersey offer was one of the "giveaways" for purchasing season tickets. If you wanted (which wouldn't everyone?) you could pay and additional $5 and get a Zips Jersey. This year's is the Blue Jersey with #7 on it. It looks exactly like the Blue Jersey that the team wears, looks to be made by the same company that made the Basketball Jerseys that were given out to Season Ticket holders.

  6. To play the devil's advocate here: Compare these weekday games to what we currently have. We have an average "attendance" around 12,560 across 6 games. Maybe one of those is televised nationally (over the past two years I can only remember 1 game being on National Television. And out of our entire slate of games (12) we'd have 2 nationally/somewhat nationally (regional television) games aired. This deal easily gives us more National Attention than we ever have before (better this year than previous years because we are looking to make some noise...especially come November).

    Now 2 of those games would be held at our stadium. 650k / 2 games held at home = 325 k per game. Assuming the average ticket price is actually $15 (Most GA tickets at the window on game day are 20-25...my season ticket average is that). You'd have to sell (325k/20) 16,250 more tickets to equal the television payout.

    Assuming we share in ticket revenues over all games (I honestly have no idea how/if the MAC does this)...(take that 650k/4 games) you'd be around 162.5k per game. 162.5k/20 = 8250 additional tickets. I honestly doubt that the attendance between a weekday evening game differs that much from the TV revenue gained by this deal, to cover the difference.

    A lot of us here are concerned about the financial sustainability of the MAC. Unfortunately, there it is folks...making deals like this. What the MAC needs to do, is to take care of business whenever it has the national spotlight (entertaining games, giving BIG schools a run for their money...beating BIG schools") and then maybe we can make more demands/get better times. Until then, enjoy the two nationally televised away games that you probably would have had to watch on crappy/shoddy internet streaming. Hopefully this deal means that Akron can purchase better video equipment.

  7. Seeing Game 1's post makes the excitement for the home opener even more real!

    This first game I expect Bowden will play close to the vest, however I do see a little experimentation at WR and RB. From what I've been reading from ZN.O members, and what I've seen, none of the WR corps have been stepping up. A couple of guys have got to step up *cough* MTB1 *cough*. I do expect to see a more productive passing game than we've seen in practice. Our defense is as good as advertised, and hopefully the WR corps will see what they are capable of.

    A win against Penn State will get Joe and Jane NE Ohio to pay attention, I absolutely believe that. Everything else will be noise to them. And I do believe the team will take this game seriously. I never thought I'd be able to see it or say it (it still hasn't completely sunk in my own psyche yet) but the culture of this team is changing. The expectations of 1-11's and the "How are we going to lose this time" are changing to expectations of "how are we going to win" and .500+'s. I'm interested to see how well that 4/5, 3-game win streak translates to this season.

  8. @Zippy_ua_00 can you confirm the possible things though? Like we have the traditional Blue, White jersey and a new black jersey this year. We have all new helmets, White, Blue? (is this really coming this year) and Chrome gold, (and we really don't have the old matte gold helmets anymore?). Pants: Gold, White, Blue? (my assumption here because we wore them last year) and now black.

    Is this at least along the lines of what we have available?

  9. Perhaps they draw more than Zips' games because they're more well known, and most people outside of the UA community and Akron, don't really know that Akron has an awesome stadium. I didn't get to the LeBron welcome back party, but there were several reports on ESPN that said people were waiting outside of the Big Dialer 10 hours before it was set to begin. When was the last time people waited outside the Big Dialer for an event at the Big Dialer?
    If I were in the athletics department, I'd be working VERY hard to try and get LeBron to make a guest appearance at the BGSU game that will be broadcast on ESPN nationally. But I guess what would make it easier is an undefeated record, or very good record...
