I guess I will never understand why you want them to fail and frankly I don't care. I hear what you are saying, but if you think them losing will change things you are just wrong.
The UA v. ohio state topic: Okay, for once I'll bite. I think the point for the most part around this board is that no one cares what ohio state does or doesn't do. Do I think that Akron's own newspaper should give top billing to our own university's athletic programs? Yes I do. Do I think that the students and alumni of UA should hold UA sports in a much higher esteem than all other collegiate programs? Yes I do. Do I think that far too many people in NE Ohio who are not osu students or alumni consider osu the ONLY college worth a damn in Ohio? Yes I do. Do I think the entire state of Ohio would cave in and stop functioning if AKRON stuck it to osu? You'd better believe it. And I can only hope that happens as soon as possible. Sadly many people in NE Ohio who never attended college in the area don't even realize that UA has a division 1A or FBS program. That is what sickens me. I personally couldn't care less what osu does or doesn't do. It doesn't have so much to do with whether or not osu fails or succeeds but it has everything to do with what AKRON does. If Akron's football program starts going having 10+ win seasons consistently and the media doesn't get a clue and northeast Ohio still bleeds red and silver instead of Blue and Gold then we have a major problem and I have a total gripe. Until then, unfortunately the sad truth is that the status quo will continue to exist. Also, you have every right to root for who you want to Zipgrad01, but as I'm sure you're well aware, on this board (as it should be) it's Blue and Gold or you walk the plank buddy. Haha, no worries friend.

I grew up a MICHIGAN fan. Why? Well partially because it took less time to get to Ann Arbor than it did to Cowlumbus and because even at an early age I found OSU fans extremely Obnoxious! Note: My family is FULL of OSU fans who DIDN'T go to OSU. One actually graduated from Michigan. Then, I enrolled at Akron and went to a few FB games every year but I wasn't that into the team, school kept me too busy. After I graduated, I moved to Michigan, scored Michigan Season Tickets for a couple years. Guess what, I ditched those for Akron tickets. Why? 1) It wasn't any fun watching UofM pound on 3-4 mid-major teams every year. It just wasn't exciting.2) I got sick and tired, even after a win, hearing fans complain! If they won, they would whine about how they should have won by more!3) God forbid if they lost!!! FIRE LLOYD!!!!4) I had to pay an arm and a leg to watch a bunch of cupcake games and 2-3 exciting games. While visiting back home on the weekends (when UofM was away), I started going to Zips games. They were actually exciting! We didn't win all the time, but hell, the games were fun. The fans were very down to earth people who didn't expect perfection (these are 18-22 year old kids remember). You could get GREAT seats and those boys can PLAY!! Tickets were dirt cheap and I had a GREAT time! Got a couple of my old college buddies to show up for tailgating, started going to games at CMU and EMU....BAM! I was hooked. In the end, for me, it is just SO MUCH MORE FUN than going to UofM games. It's really easy to follow the team and the opponents are close. A lot of the people I know also went to MAC schools so it makes things fun to keep them on their toes about their Alma Mater. I guess I don't mind my friends or my co-workers cracking on me for being a Zips fan. If I had a dime for everytime I heard an OSU fan say: "Why don't you root for a real team like OSU?".....I'd be a rich man. BTW, living for almost a decade in Michigan, I never once was asked "Why don't you root for a real team like Michigan?". There's no turning back now, I'm a Zips fan to the end! Hell, my kids and my Nephews think the Akron Zips are BIGTIME!!!!

I allowed myself to fix that typo in your post zipsrifle  This akron vs osu debate is getting really old. No matter how you put it, far or close, real team or not, if you went to Akron, that's your team, your affiliation, your identity. Who cares what your family does and who they root for, you went to school at Akron, they didn't.Let's put it this way, your son is playing in a school league and your neighbor's son also plays for another team, your neighbour's son is a better player, do you stop cheering your son and cheer on the neighbour?

How did I miss that!! Thanks for editing, I'll have to be more careful next time.

Zipsrifle captures exactly why it is so easy to dislike OSU these days. It has nothing to do with the team and everything to do with their fat, obnoxious fans. The team is actually very good and the coach is very good. Allow me paint a picture.Where I live now, many bars are locations for alumni clubs and NFL team clubs. During the off season, many of the fans hang out in those bars. The Michigan bar is down by a Greek restaurant I like to go to (I can't remember the name of the bar). If you go into this place, most Michgan fans are friendly, well educated and usually dressed in a nice Michigan golf shirt or something like that....they look like they care about their outward appearance. They also have graduated from Michigan, which is a really, really, really good school. Even though they know the MAC is not as good as the Big Ten, they will politely carry on a conversation about how fun the league is to watch and can probably even talk about some players from the league. Even though they may not mean it, they try to welcoming. If you go to the OSU bar, Jocks and Jills, there is a completely different scene. What you will see at an OSU bar are a bunch of loud, drunk, vulgar, really fat Midwesterners sitting around in red t-shirts tucked in to what serves as pants (usually a pair of sweat pants because they can not squeeze into any other type of pants) like a bunch of tourists with their enormous guts hanging over the pants like a wrecking ball. Most of these people have probably never stepped foot in a college classroom. If you try to carry on a conversation about the MAC, they usually dismiss it as unworthy of their time or thought. Usually, any discussion of anything other than OSU results in these people giving you the finger. Interesting that many of these people are also Browns fans, but that is another topic. The Michigan bar also serves as the Buffalo Bills fan club bar and is owned by a real Irish hard ass from upstate NY. Last year after OSU beat Michigan, a bunch of those fat slobs from the OSU bar came in and sprayed fire extinguishers all over the place. The owner of the bar was fuming and along with some of his employees "detained" the herd of cattle and had them arrested.Man, I feel like I'm getting into mid season form already. I hope I don't peak too soon........

Some of us went to both schools and graduated from both schools. I wouldn't take it if anyone on an OSU site put down UA, which they don't by the way, so don't expect me to take it when some jealous fool on here decides to take shots at my other Alma Mater for absolutely no reason other than to look tough.OSU is not an opponent of UA this year or in the near future, why some people have to keep talking about them is beyond me. And for the record, I have never, ever, ever started an OSU conversation. It is one of the haters that always does that and then blames others for responding to it  .

BuckZip, you and other people who attended both schools are not the ones we call obnoxious fans and i did not mean you by my post. Go back to the post by GP1 to see the description of the obnoxious OSU fans.I do not have any issue with OSU students/alums and people residing in columbus cheering for the buckeyes. My problem is with Akron students/alum and akron residents who feel that they're too good to root for the zips or even hear about them.
