SUGGESTION for 2009 unis

I've alway thought that a zipper (instead of a single stripe down the center of the helmet) would look cool. With the open end being in the back. Gold helmet showing the blue underneath and a blue facemask. And put the sleeker roo jumping on the side. This incorporates history and originality. Take Colorado's uni's and change the black to a dark blue. Leave the grey and gold as is. The slight grey trim on the uni's would match the subtle grey zipper on the helmet. If I was good a photoshop I would do it myself.
that's pretty clever. You could keep the side logo as is. The zipper takes the place of a stripe.

To answer a few questions. We have signed a new contract with adidas just a few weeks ago. Im not too sure how long the contract goes for. There will be new home uniforms for next season. I believe the away uniforms are staying as is. The away uniform is really nice looking uniform. The idea of the different helmet stickers isnt a bad idea. But you would have to have them made and change the entire teams helmet sticker every time you wanted a different look on the helmets. And remember someone has to do this every time. it doesnt just happen. I personally like the Blue Helmets with the gold facemasks that zip81 made. The big problem that we would be running into here is money. Currently we have one set of helmets. A lot of schools have a set of practice helmets and game helmets. We, right now, dont have the money to do this. Out helmets are painted gold with a blue flake in them. The shell itself is the same color as greenbay's helmets. That is why you see yellow on some of the helmets we have that are beat up. The solution would be to with a helmet you dont have to have panted over; such as the blue or white. Think the Steelers helmet. It is an impregnated helmet meaning the shell itself is that color. None of the companies i am aware of make a Gold impregnated helmet. To do this we would have to raise the money for a new set of helmets. The helmets the team currently is using, The Riddell Revolution, cost about 160-170 per helmet for the standard and about 200+ for a different version called the IQ. Now if we were going to chage you would have to figure in those prices for about maybe 150 helmets. $180 multiplies by 150 helmets puts us at $27,000 dollars. Not too bad. But now you would have to figure in the facemasks. Which cost some where between 12-20 dollars. We will say $15 multiplied by 200 facemasks. Which probably still isnt enough. Gives us $3000 dollars. To change the color of the helmets and the facemask the team would be looking at around $30,000 not to mention the cost of shipping. That is all a rough estimate and i would say it is on the low side. to be safe i would guess we need about $35,000+ in order to change the helmets. If a donor is reading this and wants to see different helmets or uniforms please donate. And say that is what you want the money used for. Thank you in advance if you are out there. Now the uniforms that is another story...I'll leave that for later today maybe.
If we don't have the money for 2 sets of helmets that is a damn shame, when Massillon HIGH School can afford 2 sets of helmets!!!! If a gold impregnated helmet cost too much why not make the second set of helmets blue to mix things up. Hell Oregon has 4 sets..green, white, yellow, and black. And we can't afford 2 sets?!!!

Yes except Oregon is the research university for Nike, so Nike pumps a ton of money into the school and tests a lot of equipment and design with the various athletic programs. Most if not all of Oregon's equipment and uniforms is paid for by Nike.

That being said, our numbers are too freaking big...the first pic of BC would be a good template for size.
Steve French can't see them as it stands now...PLEASE don't shrink them! ;)
The reason the numbers are so big on the blue uni's is because they covered the printed on numbers with sown on numbers and to cover them up completely they had to use a bigger font. But I agree French can't see the numbers now so once you put him up in that high press box at the info maybe they shouldn't make them much smaller at all.
If French is having trouble seeing numbers now, he's really going to need a spotter at Infocision. When you think about how high up press row is going to be (70 ft.?) and then the field is another 20 ft below ground level...he'll be about twice the distance from the field and just won't have as good a view of what's going on down there. It could be a problem.

Monitors??

Speaking of monitors...I forget what's been said about having them in the concourses and suites/loges but if they have them then they would always have a video feed for home games to make available on Zips Zone...would they not? But anywhere inside the tower (not including the lower classroom levels) should have a good view of the field so I don't know if they'd really be needed.

Personally, I love the current jersey. The helmet could be tweaked, but I think it should stay gold. On another note, I thought I saw Wagon Wheel stickers on the back of the helmets today! That is an AWESOME idea if that was the case. Do the players get any other type of "Reward" for beating Can't??? Another thing slightly off topic. I know the "Whiteout" thing was started by Penn State and everyone is copying, but I thought it would be cool to try a "Gold Rush". And I'm not talking about Gold colored T-Shirts. I mean get some shirts made that look like gold. That would be cool.

All the Nike money in the world won't buy good taste.Oregon's uni's are criminally bad!!!!! http://images.dawgsports.com/images/admin/...on_uniforms.jpghttp://images.dawgsports.com/images/admin/...on_uniforms.jpg

first, i'm sure akron would have the same benefits if one of their alumni founded the most successful line of athletic gear in the world.second, oregon's uniforms aren't that ugly. i don't like the yellow, but the whole metal cut pattern in the shoulders and legs are pretty unique and sweet. there seems to be two lines of thought. the first being staying traditional and keeping things the same no matter what and the second being cutting edge and having the newest, flushiest design there is.

matt-ryan-pictures%20(9).jpgI would like to see them look very similar to BC's unis. Just replace all the maroon with blue and the eagles with our logo. I think a single thin blue stripe on the helmet with the logo would be sweet. I would go with these combos:home:Blue jersey/gold pants (5 games)Blue jersey/ white pants (1 game)road:White jersey/blue pants (4 games)White jersey/gold pants (1)All white (1)Obviously, we would keep our number style (unless Nike changes it), but PLEASE make it 15-20% smaller)!!! BC keeps just the right mix of old school look with some newer twists. I'd like to see Akron do the same.NOTE: BC uses Adidas/Reebok so I'm sure if we are using Nike next year it will not be EXACTLY the same.
Seriously, those old-school uniforms are WACK!!BC's uniforms are WACK!!Why do you think they changed those off-brand ultra-lame 'Lee Owens era' uniforms?THEY WERE HORRIBLE!!!We looked like a dusty crusty Green-Bay wannabe squad.Stick with the Gold helmets, although blue could be considered.White helmets NEVER look that great! Just like white cars NEVER look as good as other colors.Stripes down the pants are very 70's and 80's....it sucks.Stripes on the helmets....another sucky ideaDO NOT put a big Akron on the side!DO NOT put a lame uniform number on the side of the helmet! Look at Alabama's uncharismatic suck-ass uniforms and helmets!!Colorodo's design is a great template. The St. Louis Rams uniforms are a great template. The blue-on-blue is sweet as hell! KEEP IT!Pants: blue/gold/ocassionally whiteJerseys: white/blue/...possibley gold?I like the idea of experimenting with the grey. However, that old-school sh*t needs to stay in the old-school!That sh*t don't sell!!!! It's UGLY!!

I was close(?!)...168 feet: http://www.gozips.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB...;ATCLID=1597514Standing on what will become the new playing surface of Summa Field, the stadium is shaping up to be an imposing venue for all opponents. The completed press box and suite portion of the stadium will stand 168 feet over the gridiron action and will do so at an incline that insures excellent sightlines from every seat.

One reason uniform style is important is to help attract recruits. I know it seems shallow, but my son, who plays high school football, likes "cool" uniforms. It could be a small part of his college choice, in fact. Why are we suddenly seeing so many black uniforms, even among schools which don't have black as an official color? The players (college and high school) like black uni's. P.S.--He loves the Oregon uni's, which I can't stand (I'm a Penn State type).

I know I'm really late to the party on this one, but please, no numbers on helmets. Maybe this is born out of my hatred for Alabama, but I just don't think they ever can possibly look good. I think logos work much better than plain text as well. The block "AKRON" lettering looks classic, but I'm not really into classic when it comes to uni's.Oh, and the urine-colored Oregon Jersey is the worst.

I dont understand what you old people have against the oregon jerseys. Those jerseys are saweet. If UA had a new uniform like that, I guarantee more students would want to come here and become AK Rowdies.

back up that guarantee with $$$ for the team to buy the Unis out of your own pockets if the Rowdies don't atleast double.

I've seen some of the best ideas posted here...ideas that many would pay good money to hear. These are my favorites.unis-1.gif
