GoZips Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Perhaps the Zips are a lot better team than most of us are giving them credit for.The University of Cincinnati Bearcats shredded Marshall 33-10 on national TV. Scant mention of UC'stough go the previous week other than the breaking of QB Pike's left arm.The TV commentators waxed on and on as to how a "good" C-USA team is just no match for a "good"Big East team. Largely, they were correct. Marshall just did not have the team speed to deal withthe Bearcats. Outside of NFL bound WR Passmore the Herd had little offense. UC controlled theline of scrimmage on both sides of the ball most of the night. This game in no way looked like the UC-Zips game. A game that was much more evenly fought.A lot of ZN posters thought that UC was not real good since they struggled against Akron. Naw.The Zips are for real. Akron is a much better team than many give them credit for.Darn, I sure hope the kids do not go out and lay an egg at Dix Stadium today. Its time for the Zipsto put some fear into the rest of the MAC. Quote
Blue & Gold Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 I was very interested in last night's game and watched it in it's entirety. Before last night's game I was still a little unsure about where our Zips' team stood: expected, but well played losses to Wisky & Ball State; expected beatdowns of lowly Syracuse & Army, followed the strong and very entertaining game against equally tough-to-peg Cincy. I'm no longer doubtful. Cincy put the hurt on Marshall last night; made them look real bad. Marshall's lone td came on a long, blown-coverage pass to start the 2nd half. Other than that single play they really couldn't muster much O against the Bearcats at all. Additionally, due to Pike's injury, UC was starting a red-shirt freshman QB getting his very first snaps on the collegiate level.Thirdly, toward the end of the game UC fumbled the ball around the 5 yard line as they were driving in for another score. Thus, the score easily could have / should have been 40 - 10. Complete domination. The Zips' D has been playing extremely well the past 2 weeks making this team for real. We beat down Ball State the next time we play them... in Detroit! Fear the Roo! Quote

The Zips looked slow, overmatched and poorly coached. I saw lots of Jack from last year, and it freaked me out. Someone please help me feel good about this win today, because I feel palpably worse after this win than I did after the Cinci loss. A fumbling, turnover-laden and weak win against Hippie Tech is not a great thing in my eyes this evening. However, we are 3-3, and I suppose I'm happy with that record against our opponents so far. <<<---See, the optimist in me is trying mightily to come out. GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZip Quote
