ZachTheZip Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 This topic was brought up in another discussion, but I think we need to talk about this in greater detail. The DesMoines Register did all the work for me in compiling the data, and a poster on the MAC website found it. Pretty good stuff. Here's how the MAC stacks up.Here's the breakdown of Akron's games for this year.We had a net gain of $950,000.We are tied for 13th in the country for total income at $1,100,000.We also managed to pay the least money in the MAC for one of the best home-opponents out of any team in the conference. What do you guys think about our scheduling strategy now that you have the figures in front of you? It's extremely expensive to have more than 6 home games a year. Quote

Class of 82 Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Well, it's a lot easier to pay people to come to your place when your place actually generates some revenue. This is why Infocision Stadium is such a crucial piece of the puzzle for Akron. It's almost insane to think that our MAC home schedule might bring an actual profit and that marquee opponents from the Big 10 or Big East might actually come at little or no net cost. I think this is almost guaranteed in the short term. And if we can actually get this program winning and maintaining interest, there's no reason our home schedule can't just get better and better. And what the heck. I see no reason not to keep scheduling at least one or two big pays on the road every year. It only makes sense. And the better we get, the more chance we have of turning big pay days into a marquee win every now and again. Quote
skip-zip Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Guys...Remember. This still does not account for the millions in operating expenses. Quote
UA1987 Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Our OOC schedule was negotiated by Mike Thomas through the 2011 season. Changes have been made since like canceling our Kentucky three game series, which included 1 home game. I would have preferred dumping Wisconsin and keeping Kentucky despite the slightly higher 1 game payday. I have to say that I liked our OOC schedule this year except for Wisconson. By the way, the goal of our Athletic Department is not to play these guarantee away only football games. I hope you nuts that like them so much won't be disappointed when we start doing things the right way for the football program.Great game on tonite... Memphis vs Louisville. I like to see Akron sign a home and home contract either on one of them. A Memphis/Akron rematch of the 2005 Motor City Bowl would be very interesting. Go Zips. Quote
