Big Zip
Chase Blackburn was named an alternate to the NFC Pro Bowl team today. What a great accomplishment for a kid the Browns didn't have room on their roster for. It amazes me how a team like the Browns misses players like Harrison from Can't, Hixon and Blackburn from Akron. Especially when Blackburn was in their camp and essentially free sans probably a $10,000 signing bonus. I couldn't be happier for Chase -- he's worker hard for this and I hope someone stays home to give him the chance to go!
GP1
Great job CB!This story gives me a chance to make fun of myself so I will take it..... Blackburn's last year at Akron I went to the OU game with my brother. He coached in college for a lot of years and even coached at the BCS level. He is really a good guy to watch and talk about football with. The defense Akron played was not really a fit for Blackburn so he really did not standout that much. My brother told me during the game, "That #44 is the best player on Akron's team" and "He is going to be in the NFL some day." I immediately began to laugh and tell him Blackburn doesn't do anything good enough to make the NFL. Believe it or not, I said Frye would make a better NFL player than Blackburn. My brother said something like, "No, that kid has the speed and build for an NFL LB. You watch, he will be on an NFL team next year. He's just playing in a defense that does not fit his ability. He is made for the NFL" That was the only time my brother saw him play in college and figured it out in one hour.
zip37
Maybe that 'splains the Browns.

skip-zip
GP1....I will truthfully tell you that the people I attended games with back then clearly saw him as an impact defensive player. So, I don't think he totally came out of nowhere. But, I certainly didn't peg him as ever being an every-down linebacker in the NFL. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Isn't he starting right now because of an injury? Isn't his real role as Pierce's backup at middle LB? If so, he's certainly made the most of his opportunity to play. The Browns are what they are.....bad personell decision, after bad personell decision, after bad personell decision.
