akronad Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Im sure a lot has been talked about and our inabilities to make it to a bowl game. However, I just a little research, it looks to me as though we are not finishers.2006, 5-5 record, lose to OU 12-7 & WMU 17-0, final record 5-72007, 4-6 record, lose to Miami 7-0 & CMU 35-32, final record 4-82008, 5-4 record, lose to Buffalo 43-40, to OU 49-42 & Temple 27-6, final record 5-7Entering those last games we were 14-15, but by the time all was said and done, 14-22.Until we learn to win games down the stretch, we will never make to another bowl game. itJMHO. GP1 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Until we learn to win games down the stretch, we will never make to another bowl game.It has nothing to do with learning to win games and everything to do with using a defense that is too small. At the heart of the matter is the players wearing down over the course of the season. The solution to this trend is very simple in my estimation. Use a defense that deploys a larger group of players that wear better against bigger players. Quote
skip-zip Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Everyone has a right to their own opinion. But, you need to look at the flip side as well. In 2004 JDs Zips won a number of games in a row down the stretch to get us into that final game against Miami that decided the MAC East title. And in 2005, we also ran off a stretch of wins late in the season to get to the MAC Championship game. And in 2007, those two close games against Miami and Central Michigan were probably the two best games we played all year, defensively and offensively, against the eventual winnners of the East and West Divisions respectively.I just want to point out that it's not accurate if the claim here is that JDs Akron teams have always played poorly at the end of the season. But it IS completely accurate that JD's LAST THREE Zip squads have faded miserably down the stretch. That's not the trend we desired heading into the Info, but I suppose that's water under the bridge. Hopefully there will be enough improvement on D in the off season to ride the "Info opening momentum" all the way to the END of the 2009 season. Quote
