MDZip Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 With the way the West is looking, no team is likely to have more than 5 wins when we go back to each of our division's play, even with a 4-1 run that wouldn't give any of them more than nine wins. Since most East teams wil have 5 or 6 wins against the west it is even probable that 5 East teams could have ten wins. That means that the East could possibly have seeds 1,3,4,5 and 6 (and maybe even 7). This would look a lot a few years ago when the Zips got the three seed and the rest of the East was all on other side of the bracket. So in a year like this, if you are an East team, would you rather get a three seed than a 1 seed and let the rest of your division beat up on each other while you get mostly the "cupcakes"? Not that I think the Zips need fear anyone but it'd be nicer to get a little "apparently" easy path to the final - hey we're owed one. Quote
skip-zip Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 MDZip...much like last year, I think the place to be will be the #3 spot, since that will allow you to face the #2 West Div. champ in the semis. And that's not a knock on last year's Western Michigan team. They were actually a very good team that throttled us at their place a few weeks earlier. We just played probably our best game of the season in that semi game. But I expect this year's #2 seed to be much less formidable than last year's.How do we get there? Well, winning the home games against OU, Miami, and BG could put us in a good position. And hope that Can't State doesn't continue to win before they get us at their place to finish the regular season. And Can't also gets Buffalo at home, while the 3 teams ahead of them (Zips, BG, and Miami) have to play them on the road. Every team in the East that has a shot at that #3 spot sits within 2 games of each other....and you can't count out WMU either since they will play their last 5 games against their own division. It could end up being a wild couple of weeks. Quote
