zippyrifle32 Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 The NCAA will be webcasting the NCAA Rifle Championships. You can help competitive shooting by going to the webcasting tomorrow (Saturday) to view the video of the air rifle championships. The NCAA will be counting the visitors to the site so the number of "hits" is important (usually only one link per computer will be counted...so log in from your desktop, laptop, etc). This is a first for NCAA Rifle...it is important that we send a message to the NCAA that there is an interest in the competitive shooting sports! Our goal is 1,000 hits...this will make a positive statement that will benefit the shooting sports. What will you be able to view...a remote camera will be setup downrange looking back at the firing line...which will pan the shooters. There will also be a link to the results. To find the link to the webcast and results...go to... www.gofrogs.com<http://www.gofrogs.com/> ...if it brings you to an "intro"...skip...and continue to the gofrogs main page. The #1 top story will be the rifle championships and you will find the links.DON'T FORGET ZIPSNATION THAT AKRON'S FIRST NCAA PARTICIPANT, FRESHMAN JENNA COMPTON WILL BE COMPETING!!! Quote
ZachTheZip Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 What time is it going to be on? I'll check it out, provided it's not at the same time as the MAC basketball championship. Quote

Zip Watcher Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 Wasn't a guy inducted into the Zips HOF a couple of weeks ago at a hoops game that went to the NCAA's in the late 70's?Regardless .. GOOD LUCK Jenna. Quote
Zipmeister Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 Truth in advertising laws require that we disclose that while she is not the first ever Zip to reach the NCAAs, she will be the first freshman female from the UofA participating in the event since Zippyrifle was born (which is almost the same as being the first ever). ZM, are you with a "debt-restructuring" outfit? Quote
zippyrifle32 Posted March 14, 2009 Author Report Posted March 14, 2009 as I said before, I'm fairly certain (and still trying to find a good source to nail this down and cite) that the first NCAA rifle championships were in 1980, and before the NCAA took over the collegiate national championships it was the NRA that put it on. That would make her the first NCAA participant, but not the first college national match competitor. Quote
zippyrifle32 Posted March 14, 2009 Author Report Posted March 14, 2009 just checked the live results and the final results are not in yet, but it appears that in the preliminary Jenna Compton shot the second highest score with a 590/600 setting a school record and sending her into the final in one point out of first!!! for those who are not familiar with the sport, each competitior shoots a preliminary round course of fire. then the top 8 individuals shoot a 10 shot final, which is then added to the preliminary score and a winner is declared. in the final, the competitors have to 75 seconds to shoot each shot and are stopped in between shots. after each shot their scores are then read out loud to the crowd until the 10 shots have been fired. also in the final, each shot is scored to a tenth of a point instead of the whole points in the preliminary, making it very easy to make up the distance (or lose ground) on other competitors.
