tbozeglav
I am desperately trying to find an apartment for at least the next year down in Akron. I have decided I no longer want to live in a dorm (and might not be able to based on how many credits I may be taking next fall) and want to move to a place on my own. I was going to live with my current roommates, but that fell through as have plans to live with a friend down here. I have been trying to find a way to add another class to my schedule to at least give me the option of living on campus (I desperately do not want to do this again), but there's really no options out there for me.I really don't have much as far as requirements, but here they are:Rent under $500-$600/moAs close to the UA campus as possibleAir conditioningWould like an indoor garage for the carCable/High Speed internet a mustLocated in at least a decent neighborhood (I have many highly-valuable electronics to keep safe)Move in before the start of the Fall 09 semester (obviously)I'm sure there are things I am forgetting, but let me know of any places I can check out. Thanks! I lived there for a year a few years back...I know their efficiencies are fairly cheap and heat/water are included. Very secure, and garage option is available. Plus there's an indoor and outdoor pool.
tbozeglav
From what I have been told by friends also looking for apartments, that place is booked solid...
Zip22
Try Timber top. In the valley and no garage, but cheap and decently kept.
ksu sucks
I'm in the exact same predicament as UAZips. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it.From what I have been told by friends also looking for apartments, that place is booked solid...Yeah I wouldn't be surprised. From what I've heard, literally EVERYTHING around campus is almost filled already. This school is growing way too fast...on a side note, I think there is going to be a off campus housing fair at the student union sometime in April. I'm sure of the specifics though. zippyrifle32
since we now have to pay the transportation fee, living near campus (walking distance) isn't going to save as much as it used to. i lived on spicer for two years and now live in highland square. it's much safer, cleaner, better landlords, and cheaper. DON'T rent from kevin board/spicertown rentals. I had to sue that asshole to get my security deposit back because he mailed me an iou... not to mentioned the numerous health code violations. anyways i would recommend checking out the highland square area and if you can get a roommate that's a bonus. look on craigslist too. i'm in an older apartment in highland square paying $565 plus electric for a 2 bedroom. also you'll find that internet is an extra you pay for and that the safety factor is negatively correlated with the distance from campus factor. ZachTheZip
You could probably buy a house for less than a years rent right now.
tbozeglav
You could probably buy a house for less than a years rent right now.A great idea, yes.... if I had about 3 other people who wanted to get one together. Buying a house by yourself is just stupidI have given thought to Highland Square. Thanks for the tip. I may call them and see if they have anything available that will work for me. Zipsrifle
Wow, UofA must be growing. I lived in about 5 different apt. when I was in school. I had no problem finding a good, cheap place to live. I think my rent was $200 a month! $500-$600 could easily buy you a house!

tbozeglav
Im currently considering 22exchange, even at its price. I did a breakdown of the entire value of all amenities of the apartments there and dollar-to-dollar, plus considering intangible values, its actually not too bad of a price. For me to live on my own at, for example, Highland Square and have comparable amenities, it'd cost me roughly $1000/mo ($500/mo if I get someone to live with me)For me to live with at least 1 other friend at 22Exchange, it'd cost me no more than $735/mo and is not dependent on my roommate paying his share every month (each resident pays their share individually)
Quickzips
I will echo Timber Top. The rent is very affordable (I pay $465 a month for a one bedroom). It's pretty well kept. Air conditioning units in every building. Always plenty of spaces available. They do have one unit car garages for rent if you wanted one. I haven't had any real problems with security or anyone in the neighborhood. Short of a few noise issues that you are going to get almost anywhere you live in an apartment complex it is a nice place. It is a little further from campus than Highland Square or Fir Hill or something like that, but it isn't too bad of a drive up Merriman.
