Read this article. Though it doesn't have anything to do with the Zips, I found MANY parallels between the current Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Cavs, and what we have done as an athletics program in Akron and what we hope for the future.LinkyIn the article George Thomas  talks about the Cleveland Browns losing a generation of fans. Due to the Zips legacy of losing, isn't that really what we battle here in Akron? GT also talks about the Browns being in danger of creating fan "apathy." Again, isn't that exactly what we are trying to reverse here in Akron?GT talks about, due to the demise of the Browns, the Cavs being in an advantageous position to gain new fans and to be an integral part of Cleveland's identity. Again, isn't that our goal for the Akron community here at UA?Just an interesting article that, if you'd replace Cavs with Zips, really hits some nerves about our potential here at UA.

I've never understood why people have such a lackluster view of Akron athletics, and I am referring to many students. I'm not sure there's an easy answer to that question but heres one that I think will work:WinningKeep winning and I'm sure (slowly) people will be overwhelmed with spirit. On a very similar note: I have some friends who are into other sports teams (professional & college) who view Akron sports as if they are a minor league team. Also, I have friends who aren't into sports at all (I dunno whats wrong with them either). The point I wanted to make is that all of them are excited about the Info and are eager to attend games. It's a perfect opportunity to turn the page and gain some true fans.

Yeah.Jacobs Field + Winning demonstrated how a new facility with success can really generate attendance (and build a tradition). The Browns are an example of what having an established tradition can do for you during extended lean years. I don't know this but I'm willing to bet that their attendance to winning ratio is among the top in the NFL.So the conundrum is trying to do what the Indians did and catch lightning in a both with a convergence of beneficial circumstances.... and then keep that rolling into something beyond a passing phenomenon that establishes loyalty and tradition.... a cultural mainstay
