Zipmeister Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Which leads us back to the main point..... the Big 10 would never expand into Canada - so with Buffalo being in Ontario, that leaves the Bulls out in the cold. (conducting tons of research of course) Quote

They stop in Niagara and Erie, Geneva and Cleveland, and of course Akron (because that's where my family lives) and what's interesting is where they have never stopped. Quote

johnnyzip84 Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Maybe Akron, Buffalo, and Toledo should just embrace their battered images and become charter members of.........THE RUST BELT CONFERENCE Quote
MaxZIP Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 Which mac teams will start a new conference when the mac goes to FCS? Quote
ZachTheZip Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I think that the remaining MAC schools and which ever FCS teams move up to fill the power vacuum should call themselves the "North Coast Conference". I think it could work as a brand. Quote

I think it could work as a brand.Thats a good name. It could Be Buffalo, Akron, Can't??, Toledo, Bowling Green, Ohio, Miami, and???Bowling Green toyed with moving to D-II. If there's a move down they're taking it. Can't would drop, despite their fans reassuring themselves that removing a large chunk of seating capacity counts as an upgrade and investment. Ohio and Miami are pretty much married to the MAC and would follow it whereever it goes. Ball State isn't spending money and I think they would strongly consider dropping despite their one year of success.Akron, Buffalo, and Toledo are clearly committed to staying at this level, and I think CMU and WMU are as well. NIU's decision depends on whether their president retires or not. If Can't moves down, YSU could move up without it becoming too crowded in NE Ohio so long as they add a second half to their stadium. A few other FCS schools like SIU might make the jump, too. Quote
MaxZIP Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 I would hate to see the new NCC be turn it into the steaming pile of humanity that is the MAC of today. Bringing some crappy FCS teams up would really kill any potential fat-trimming positive impact as discussed above. We have few options being arguably the worst conference in the FBS. Quote

We have few options being arguably the worst conference in the FBS.That's a good point but who could the MAC cannibalize that's remotely close to the Ohio, MI, NY, NW PA corridor?Whats more likely is the 8 or so teams that would want to stay FBSWMU, CMU, UB, Akron, Toledo, Ohio, Miami, Temple would all find themselves looking for a new home...BE, B10, C-USA, ... MaxZIP Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 Cleveland state is small, unorganized, and worse than Akron in the academic realm. They have about 10,000 undergrads. Quote
Bull_In_Exile Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Cleveland state is small, unorganized, and worse than Akron in the academic realmThe same can be said of the Browns... (ok Ill stop hammering the browns, Ill leave that to the Steelers)--I think every conference has a place for someone looking to move up. I don't know much about cleveland but if you're right and its a glorified community college then perhaps Cornell... I would say NH but that would be a hike for the Michigan teams.. Quote

First off, wasn't there a time (prior to UB bringing D1 football back) when the SUNY's were forbidden by law from having D1 football? Obvously NY changed this at some point to allow for UB's resurgence, but what of the other SUNY's? Is there any POTENTIAL D1 (FBS) school in the bunch? Albany? Stony Brook? Quote

One can make the case Temple football was a similar mercy mission. Quote
