MaxZIP
I called the Akron ticket office today to ask about single game tickets. They said single game tickets will not go on sale until Aug. 17! That is borderline insane! Season ticket holders can buy single game tickets a week early though.
ZachTheZip
Absurd. Absolutely absurd.I can go and buy single game tickets for almost every other school in the country right now.

But apparently that is not the case.
ZachTheZip
The marketing department needs to make a BIG HUGE DEAL out of the August 17th date. You play this date up and get it into people's minds NOW. You see other, more successful marketing campaigns doing this such as the professional teams in Cleveland.Don't drop the ball, start running radio and TV spots for this. Do some ticket giveaways for radio prizes and have them mention that you're getting the tickets before they go on sale August 17th, like they do with concerts. They mention the date because it's a form of advertising. There's only one grand opening for the stadium, only one chance to get things right. Don't hold back and plan for the long-term at the expense of not getting things right in the present. Doing things the right way now creates precedent to keep doing things right in the future. Dr Z
I'm guessing the reasoning for putting single seats on sale so late is that they are still focused on selling season tickets. Now are you gaining more ticket sales for the season by doing that, or are you actually losing ticket sales because of this strategy? When you sell a season ticket, you are getting 6 games sold. People that want to purchase single game tickets right now will purchase, one (MS), two (MS & IU) or at best three (MS,IU &Can't State). You figure those games will be sold out, or close to sold out selling single game tickets on August 17th. I wonder how hard they will advertise single game seats going on sale, if at all. ZachTheZip
They should be advertising single-game tix much more than season tix. Sure, you sell more tickets for the game against EMU and Dumple, which probably won't be sellouts, but you get more fans long-term by getting more fans to come to the game for the first time and getting them hooked. This is the year to get them hooked, and then you can focus on selling season tix next year after they have already decided to come to a few games next season. I wonder how hard they will advertise single game seats going on sale, if at all. They had better advertise all games. Some people might not buy season tickets because of scheduling conflicts. at this point most people who are going to buy tickets have. Just look at the number of packages being sold over the past few months. They have been selling packages for over a year now going all the way back for the 2008/2009 package. By selling them so close to the opening game they are putting extra stress on the ticket office. Can they mail out tens of thousands of tickets in that small of a time frame? it is just under a month to sell and distribute for the first two games. Couple that with season ticket distribution (which seems a little questionable with pins holding you seat place) and there is a ton of stress on a department that may or may not be equipped to handle that kind of situation. BostonZip
Hopefully they are not also withholding the visiting team ticket allotment from Indiana, which is likely to bring a respectable fan contingent. It's bad enough the marketing dept. looks incompetent to its own fan base; we don't want the same impression across the Big Ten.And some people talk about us moving into a more prestigious conference such as the Big East? Dr Z
we don't want the same impression across the Big Ten.Because the big ten comes to Akron so much? F the big ten, don't let them buy tickets until the day of the game.

F the big ten, don't let them buy tickets until the day of the game. No, because Big Ten (or comparable conference) fans bring Big Time bucks, not only to UA for tickets, but also for area hotels, bars, restaurants, attractions, etc. If UA had any marketing sense, it would team up with the Pro Football Hall of Fame and offer packages for visiting fans to take in a game at UA and a visit to the HOF for a discounted admission. Maybe work with the Browns, too, and could sell a package with a Hall of Fame visit on Friday, the Zips game on Saturday and the Browns game on Sunday. ZachTheZip
If UA had any marketing senseThat's the problem, no marketing sense. They're just not good at identifying potential opportunities. What seems obvious to us when we point out all these opportunities to do things, to them just isn't seen or is seen as not worth the effort. I'm not sure whether it's worse to be so bad that you can't see the massive potential we're sitting on at UA, or whether you're too lazy to take advantage of it.Maybe they're just so completely understaffed and underfunded that they really can't do the things we're suggesting, in which case it's a failure of the Athletic Director. I think this is the most likely scenario. they know that they can't do these things, so they focused on one thing to be good at while not focusing on other aspects of what they're needed to do. They focused on marketing to companies while leaving the fans out of it. It should have been the other way around if you had to choose. Dr Z
...sell a package with a Hall of Fame visit on Friday, the Zips game on Saturday and the Browns game on Sunday.Except for the fact that the only time the Zips and Browns play Saturday at Akron and Sunday at Cleveland is on opening day. Not much marketing need for that one.

Not much marketing need for that one.Just an idea...one more than UA seems to have at present. Besides, in other years there likely would be more opportunities.I can't get over the fact that how on this list, where we are all supposed to be on the same team (or at least rooting for the same team), people get so much pleasure out of ripping into other peoples comments. xu9697
Right about now, Akron should be offering 3-game packages:BLUEMorgan StateCan't StateEastern MichiganGOLDIndianaOhioTempleThen move to single game tickets come early to mid-August. skip-zip
I think that, unfortunately, the majority of the people who come to that first game will be walk-ups right before gametime. I'm sure this isn't what we wanted to see, but I would be willing to guess that at least half of the attendance that day will not be advanced ticket sales. Zipsrifle
Oh, I'm sorry, I thought this was Zipsnation??? It must be Ohio.com because I see people talking about UA and how terrible it is. I'm as frustrated as you guys. If the AD had any track record of doing these things right, we wouldn't be as worried right now but they have never pulled off big ticket sales and now are apparently playing games like they know what they are doing.... Lets wait and see.....

ZachTheZip
I'm not quite sure you get it. I WANT to give my money to the school and athletic department, in multiple ways, and I also want to encourage others to do the same but they're making it so difficult that it's frustrating.I've been talking about the stadium since they bulldozed the first dorm, and now when people ask me about buying tickets I have to tell them that they can't because only a month from the opener they still aren't on sale. UA is throwing away money.
ziptrumpet87
Got a flyer in the mail yesterday for a you-pick-3-pack. First time in my history as a Zip alum and fan that I actually bought football tickets before the game; called today and orded two of those for the Indiana, OU and Can't games.
