ZippyTuba11
This is a free country last time I checked and a business has to cater to their crowd.Do you believe or understand your own words? Obviously there is a large crowd of Zips fans that BH isn't catering to, which is why we go to other bars that do (see OBC). And if they don't cater to US at our OWN party, they will not get our business anymore. Free country works both ways
zipseuph
it's just a giant slap in the face when the bar right across the st from the U has a giant OSU party and never anything zips. hell I remember being there for my 21rst and they played hang on sloopy. bars will tend to the majorityof people yes and thats why we need to show up and let them know who owns this town
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
OH SNAP! Zipgrad01, you are being tossed like the proverbial salad. When we're all done you may want to clean that mess from your chin my man. Oh, and by the way, why did you have to gratuitously mix in your political views about the freaking health care bill? You've been DISMISSED. You guys cant even talk about where you will watch a game without crying and moaning about OSU. You guys are like a bunch of pathetic children. I really do feel for you. You remind me of the democrats trying to push this healthcare bill. F what the people want. We know what is better for you. It is my way or the highway!! Just freaking show up and cheer for the damn Zips. Who gives a toss if they have a tv or 2 with the OSU game on and there are some OSU fans there. This is a free country last time I checked and a business has to cater to their crowd. Whats next....are you going to have bouncers outside that ask which game you are watching before you are allowed in?You can't bully people into liking what you like. Lets just hope Akron does well tomorrow and the rest of the season. That will be the only thing that accomplishes what we all want and that is a larger, more loyal fanbase, lots of wins and bowl games! How about heeding your own advice, Mayor of Simpleton. I'm not sure who is the bigger attention whore, you or jupiter2.

You are right that the Dems are wrong to push their idiotic healthcare bill on all of us but what you have wrong is that the "Democrats" are likely OSU/Can't fans. The OSU/Can't fans would normally be the ones pushing stuff on us Akron fans. Zips fans are usually more intelligent and not sheep. So come on, jump to the right side and root for the Zips until the Suckeyes fans get out of our bars.
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
Why the political mixed in with what should be pure fan sports talk in these forums? I can find enough of the health care debate on no less than one million cable channels, all day every day. The LAST thing I need is to chat about health care with other football fans. How about let's not mix pain and pleasure on the forums? You guys cant even talk about where you will watch a game without crying and moaning about OSU. You guys are like a bunch of pathetic children. zipfan85
i think it would have been great if they would have been able to broadcast the game on the scoreboard at the stadium. then we would have a whole zipsnations viewing with no suckeyes in the mix. ZippyTuba11
So as I'm leaving the BH, I notice a sign at the OBC saying "Akron U Vs Penn St Here"Were we lied to? Did OBC have the game? Could I have been enjoying a cardinal and watching the Zips at the same time? For the record, I sat on the bar at the BH, and while it was a decent effort, I was not impressed. You can put an Akron shirt on a tOSU fan, but that doesn't make him an Akron fan.OBC or bust from here on out.

I apologize for passing on that information, but none of my other sources gave me any reason to suspect that the game would be on there (OBC). I actually thought the BH was a decent atmosphere. If the game had been anywhere near competitive in the 1st half, the BH crowd would have been pretty cool I think.

I will say that the tOSU fan sitting beside us was actually pretty tolerable. However, I still preferred the atmosphere we get at OBC way better. bUAkronG
Happy to say that when my girl and I were walking to Barley House, she saw the sign saying "Akron vs. Penn State here" and pointed it out to me.She, like me, is an OBC fan, so we decided to head in.They had the game on a half dozen or so TVs. For the first half, they had some stupid infomercials playing overhead, and then ESPN Classis audio of the Diamondback's World Series win a few years back. On the rest of the TVs they had the Ohio State game. I do give them credit, though, because they tried to put the Akron game on more TVs but were unsuccessful in doing so. During the second half they had the audio from the Zips game playing overhead. So I am glad that I can say I got my Steel Valley Stout and Beer BBQ Boneless wings I've been missing. OBC pulled through for me after all =]

ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
It's really just another missed opportunity by OBC, IMO. How many times are you supposed to call them and directly ask them whether they'll have the Zips on the tube before you get the right answer? I love their beer, I want to love OBC, but their stupid little mistakes and inconsistency drive me a little crazy. It's not your fault they're kinda screw ups JZ84. Hopefully they'll get their shiite together when they move down the street but I'm not holding my breath. Once again, I am REALLY sorry for this. scottditzen
I really like OBC too, but they are the ones who are to blame. If they really cared about getting the business of Zips fans, they would know about this forum and be spreading the word, inviting all of us to come down there. They know how to make excellent beer, but it appears to me that every one of their business moves has been suspect to say the least. It's really just another missed opportunity by OBC, IMO. bUAkronG
I do have to say, I was being a bit nice in my previous post. The fact that they only had the game on about 6 or 7 TVs sucked. This resulted in twice as many TVs showing the OSU game as the Zips game. With about another 2 or 3 broadcasting nothing. When I first went in they had general music playing overhead. Then it was changed to a ridiculous infomercial from Fred Martin that was annoying and kind of pissed me off. After that was ESPN Classic audio from the 2001 World Series. This was left on from about the 7th inning up until the end of the game. Then up next on ESPN Classic was audio from the 1987 NBA Finals, which was changed shortly after player introductions to the Zips game. But I watched the entire first half and part of the second half without the Zips game audio because the only TV with the sound turned on was behind the bar and barely audible from where my gf and I sat(in a table between the first two rows of booths). That being said, the atmosphere was typical of OBC. Very laid back and not very busy at all. They beer was great, food was great, and service was great.I am glad we saw the sign out front and decided to head in, but I no doubt believe they could have done things a little better.I also should mention that the B10 Network they had was not the HD channel. It was still very clear on the large TVs but I noticed when the girl tried to change one of the TVs to the game she put it on the B10 HD channel with no luck before finding the normal B10 channel. GoZips88
Thoughts on the Barley House ...* Whether they were tOSU fans or not, it was nice to see all of the servers in Akron gear at the four of us walked in just as the place was opening up.* The manager indicated it would be about a 50/50 split of TVs between Akron and tOSU. I backed him up against the wall with a "51/49 Akron or we're outta here!" comment and he relented with 60/40. Have no idea what the actual split was but the TV directly in front of us was Akron and the sound was up high enough that I didn't even know tOSU was playing so I was happy. * A tOSU fan sat next to us with his UA girlfriend. He was quiet even when tOSU was making something happen. His girlfriend was definitely pro-Akron and got into the game the few times there was much to cheer about.* Decent turnout of Akron fans who were ready to get loud and rowdy but never had the chance. Pretty subdued atmosphere and not unexpected given what Akron was able to do on the field.* Appreciate Navy fighting hard to stay in their game. tOSU fans were not a problem at all. We left with 8 minutes to go in the Akron game (club seats at the Indians game).* Manager on duty (an assistant manager) realized about a half-hour before game time that the Barley House did not have the full Big Ten Network package! He kept getting a 'No subscription' (or something to that effect) message when trying to change to channel DirecTV channel 610. Fortunately for him (and the rest of us), he was able to work the phones and take care of that in about 10 minutes. A close-call that will make for a good story when he talks to his boss this week.* Wings, salad and service were all good. Would definitely go back. Would probably have gone to OBC if I had seen the sign as I thought OBC did a pretty good job catering to Akron fans for the March Madness selection show and the Akron/Gonzaga game.
