Dr Z
There aren't any good games on at that time either. Of course most of Ohio will be watching Columbus State play.Best case scenario, Navy is getting blown out and Akron is winning at half time. College Game Day reports that Akron is vying for an upset against #9 PSU. A lot of fans will turn to the game then.
ZachTheZip
This is the biggest game of the year. it's the only game against an opponent that any non-hardcore Zips fan around here cares about. This is our ONLY chance to create the kind of excitement over the program that can last for years. We don't play another game like this until OSU in 2011.

The Penn State bench, unfortunately for Akron, is much deeper, talent-wise, than that of Akron. That will show in the second half.

UADavid, I will pass on that particular flavor of Kool-Aid -- thanks just the same! -- but certainly you guys deserve respect, whatever happens. The breakdown will occur when your O-line can no longer contain Penn State's front seven. I think there is too much physical (i.e., strength, talent, etc.) separation btwn those two groups, and the war of attrition favors the Lions. Just an opinion, of course. tbozeglav
not an ounce of bias in that opinion??

Just an opinion, of course. Our Offensive line is one of our strong points, I would expect good play from them. Being PSU, I'm sure the defense will get some penetration at times, but I don't think that is where the big separation will happen. I think it will be on the other side of the ball. I think your offensive line will wear down our front 7. Our DL are kind of banged up and shorthanded at the present time. If we are at full throttle up front this might change. Looking forward to Saturday, they are calling for sunshine and 79! I'm not big on predicting scores in 28 point spread games, but I'll give my Zips a 28% chance of winning and leave it at that. If they win, I see them winning 28 to 27. A lot of things have to go right for us, and we need to take advantage of all those opportunities. johnnyzip84
I believe the Zip O-Line vs. Lion D-Line subplot could be the most interesting in the game. Most of us Zip fans would regard last year's O-Line as being a strength of the team. Losing only one starter (a good one in Kemme), the 2009 version stands to be just as good, if not better than in 2008. Interestingly, four out of five of the starters (and two key reserves) hail from Pennsylvania. You don't think Bates, the Andersons, Wood, Simkovich and Kasperik might be playing with a little chip on their collective shoulders this Saturday? By many accounts, this will be this unit's toughest test of the season. But I'm not one to assume they can't play 60 minutes with anybody. If they execute and avoid silly penalties, I think they'll more than earn the respect of the opposition.Edit: Dr. Z I swear we do the Vulcan "mind meld" from time to time
UADavid
Looked at the Sirius-XM broadcasts for those with no other alternative and they do not have our game. They do have the Minnesota - Syracuse game on Sirius 127 with a Syracuse call at noon for those interested in a future BCS opponent. Indiana is not listed. PSU_Lions_84
UAzipsMan said: not an ounce of bias in that opinion?? Man, guilty as charged! C'mon, I am doing my best not to tastelessly brag about Linebacker U, our depth at RB, the starting front seven -- four of whom show up on many award watch lists, etc., etc., etc.In the end -- and, again, I am trying to be as sensitive as I can be -- Akron apparently recruits enough good-to-excellent players to build a strong first unit (more so on offense than D, but that is another discussion point). However, the program is not yet mature enough to get a strong supporting cast. Penn State is able to attract lots of excellent players, which means the drop-off btwn the first and second units is usually not that significant. Now I'm sure there are lots of examples to the contrary -- I concede you those examples. But, Akron fans seem to have a firm grasp of reality, and I think you guys can concede my point, and understand the on-field impact of that point. To be indelicate: Here is a list of schools wooing Marcus Lattimore, a five-star RB who is the South Carolina player of 2008 -- North Carolina, Penn State, Oregon, South Carolina, Auburn, Florida State, Alabama, Maryland, Georgia, Michigan, LSU, Tennessee, Clemson, Duke, Nebraska, Miami-FL, Kentucky, N.C. State, Kansas, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Virginia...The first five represent his top picks in priority order. I did not see Akron in that list . . . And, Dr. Z., my scenario was based on this absolute "must": Akron MUST keep the Penn State offense off the field as much as possible. Even with your passing offense, Akron will not win a shoot-out. And, yes, UAZipsMan, that is also bias/opinion! Under 70 hours to go!!
Z.I.P.
I only have one worry for this game. With Phil "Monster Hands" Tonga out in NCAA purgatory, there is no one to lead the Zips in their pre-game haka. That could spell doom, especially if the Lions have a Polynesian dance coach of their own. Or they bring back Tim Manoa.

He is the back-up left tackle on offense. 6'4", 306 lbs.
