Zipsrifle Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 So the wife and I were a bit stretched for time today, so we decided to partake in some of the fine food and drink in downtown. We swing by the Barley house and it was JAMMED with both OU and Akron fans. Kudos to those guys for backing the Zips and cashing in! It was so packed, that we were worried we would miss kickoff, which was 2 hours away. We mosied down to Brubakers and it was full, but we found a seat. All the wait staff (which never came to our table until there was a paid bill with tip) were wearing OSU stuff. As we left, the place was clearing out fast! That waitress we talked to once, yea she asked what was going on and why it was so busy? First, my wife told her to give the tip to the bar tender who took our orders, and then she told her that the Zips had a game starting in 1/2 hour. Walking out the place was about 1/3 full. Bottom line, Brubakers prepared for their typical OSU crowd and was burried with Zips fans. Many, many customers were pissed with the service and I will never go back! Know your customer! Quote
zip37 Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 I'm SO glad got soccer season tix instead of football-- I sat at home & kept tabs on the Soccer Zips, knowing the outcome of the football Zips in advance. The only place I will go is the Tap House on Waterloo. Quote
RowdyZip Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 My fiancee and I had lunch there a few weeks back...just soup and salad, and she found a dead spider in her salad. We complained to the manager...and they credited, get this, just ONE salad. I took the bill in, along with 3 singles, handed it to the manager and said, "Your waitress did a good job, these are for her. If you think I'm paying for the rest of this food, you're insane." You just reinforced the fact, with your story, that I won't be going back, and it's a shame because it is a nice place. Quote

It was Brubakers. Quote

Know your customer!I remember against the Central game my friend and I were looking for a bar to enjoy the game. OBC was closing, the Barley House is well...the Barely House, and so we thought we would head down the street and check out the new Brubakers. As soon as we came around the corner and saw the giant inflatable Brutus sitting outside, we immediately turned around. At least the Barely House makes and attempt. Guess I'm going to have to pony up and make the drive to the Tap House sometime. Quote
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 It's too bad the Lockview doesn't sport any games on TV. It's location is just about perfect and I like the vibe of the place since it has become a little more upscale than it once was. Anybody have intel on 69 taps downtown, or the BW3 across from the stadium? I haven't been in the BW3 in 20+ years, but back in those days it was a good place. I know guys here talk up the place on Waterloo but I want to continue to stay down town as much as possible. I'd like to think and hope that OBC will be back soon but I was there on closing day a couple weeks ago and it was not clear at all that they will be back as a pub. If they make it back they'll be my UA central. We'll see.So, what's the scoop on BW3 and 69 Taps as places to eat, drink and watch games these days?STZ Quote

They have a great beer selection but would not recommend it for watching a game. 69 used to he a grea place prior to barley opening and sucking all of the people into it's endless abyss of crappy beer and sloppiness. Bw3 in Akron is the worst bw3 in the area. They have good food and beer specials but not much the way of atmosphere. I worked on Waterloo a few years back when the tap house was a scorchers. Is it the same clientele and food selection? Quote
RowdyZip Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 There's signs up on the plate glass at former OBC stating that they will be "reopening a pub soon" in the renovated building across from Canal Park. Quote

Know your customer!Has the Leakin picked up on this??? Not just fans attitude towards establishments that shun UA but the fact that Brubakers is in a new development dedicated to university students....... Certainly the new stadium has impacted Main St. From what you describe the seems to be a great game-day atmosphere developing, especially if the visiting OU fans were getting in on the act . Can't wait for Can't weekend!!! Quote
