Defense

I can't really see much difference between our 3-3-5 and a 3-4.
It has to do with assignment. Watch the "extra" guy that they bring into the "box" and tell me how many times you see him make a play anywhere near the line of scrimmage. Then watch a 3-4 defense and watch the same thing. It is very easy to game plan against it. That's why nobody plays it.
That's why nobody plays what? The 3-3-5 or the 3-4?

Add Henderson, Tonga and Hoobler= wow!
:lol:  If any of the three of them see the field at UA, I'd consider it a bonus. It's just as likely that I'll be named our head coach as it is that Henderson will ever play here.
Yeah, I know Henderson and Tonga might not be here, but what is your take on Hoobler? You think he will sign with a BCS school?

3-3-5The 3-3-5 is meant to confuse the defense with different blitzing. With this defense we rank at the bottom of the MAC consistently over the years in QB sacks. It defeats it's own purpose. We have the talent on this team now to play a base 4-3 defense and be good at it. We don't need to be gimmicky.PS I remember the modern day master of the 3-4 explaining that he needed his linebackers in his system 3 to 4 years for that player to understand the 3-4. I would guess that's why you don't see it used or used effectively in college. By the time they learn it, it's time to graduate.

Why wouldn't Hoobler see the field?
Traditionally our top recruit doesn't pan out for one reason or another, just preparing myself for disappointment.

Well, consider that to be the case for Seth Cunningham (who some might say is our #1 recruit). Comments he has made seems he is looking for a BCS school.

getting back to the defense......the front seven has played very well and the kids on the d line playing last year has helped with their production this year. i liked seeing jones line up at corner on third downs. my only issues right now is that thomas has fallen off a bit and campbell sees the field way too much. thomas is supposed to be the leader of the d and too many times he gets lost. happy the a will and wagner have picked up the slack. would mind seeing fleming getting a few more snaps. as for campbell, i like what he can do but he doens't play very well in space. would make a lot more sense to see him in on running downs and keep him off the field against the spread that has a running qb. the team has two other fs in carter and richmond that can handle those downs. if the o improves slightly then i agree with the capt prediction of a strong finish and that's based on the gasp......d :screwks:

Getting back to the Sewell injury, it seemed as though he was taking himself out on a couple of occasions that night. I saw his legs being "stretched" several times by trainors. I'm hoping that he just came out late in the game after the injury became too much of a nuisance at that point, and that he doesn't have anything serious. Does anyone have any information on his status for Buffalo?I said it before, but he played "lights out" while he was out there on Saturday. How many times did he simply throw off his offensive linemen and make the play all by himself?
Sewell suffered a stinger and left to get some other guys some PT. He was a monster prior though. I would imagine he'd be good to go saturday.

This day (and Indiana University) can pretty much go straight to hell.
