K-Roo
this is a personal foul or at least illegal hands to the face penalty.. I see runningbacks do this on every play.. as they make contact, they grab for the defender's face gear and rip his head off.... announcers call it a "Stiff Arm." I say its a dangerous play and should be penalized...What do you think??

There are already too many "it's too dangerours" BS penalties like Horse Collars, Helmet to Helmet, etc...Of course helmets are going to touch, and they already made leading with the helmet a penalty a long time ago (spearing), so if defenders were leading with their head into another head, that is still spearing and you call it. Zipmeister
I think if you ask DrZ this question he will agree that if someone is doing this to an Akron player it should be a foul, but if anyone is doing it to an osu player it is ok. ZachTheZip
He's not grabbing the facemask, just pushing on it. Plus he's trying to get away from the defender, not take the guy down.I wish our RBs would throw out a decent stiff arm once in a while. It shows an attitude. bUAkronG
yep, as the others have stated, it is not considered a foul if the facemask is not grabbed. The same usually goes with lineman. As long as they don't close their fists with the guy's facemask in hand they are usually okay.
skip-zip
I'm not seeing that he's grabbing his facemask either.
zipfan85
i think what k-roo is trying to point out is the close fist and underneath the chin shot or maybe not, i don't know. but i still agree with everyone else. there is no need for any more penalties. i mean if they really want to stop the bad stuff, they would penalize any kind of pile on because we all know there is someone taking a cheap shot at the bottom of it. Or if your mouth was by it you bit it. It was a professional player, a linebacker I believe.
K-Roo
OK.. maybe pic is bad example .. how about these???I'm talking about when the offensive player uses the face gear to break a tackle... not inadvertently .. but as a technique. If the defender can't grab/touch the runner's mask, it should work the other way too. I think there are too many offensive advantages and this is one of them. One ESPN announcer stated that because of the advances in helmet technology, players feel impervious to injury. But that is a move that can result in serious injury, and it is supposed to be illegal. A defender hitting under the chin with the crown of the helmet deserves more than 15 yards, yet I've seen it not called.
