ZachTheZip
It's difficult to find info on soccer recruiting. It's just not developed into an industry like football/basketball has with Scout and Rivals. This is what I have found out so far. There are sure to be some Zips fans with better info than I have.MF: Gabriel Genovesi - Homestead, WI. Club: MK MajorsD: Perry Kitchen - US Soccer Residency, US U-17 MNT. Club: Chicago Magic
tpsjugglerdude
Today in the Union it looked like Coach Porter was walking around a recruit.
skip-zip
This is really exciting. We are probably in a position now where our national recognition will give us access to some of the best players available every year. And that puts us among those teams where "if everything falls your way" you have a chance to win a national title just about any given year. If only soccer was more highly regarded, this could really help the exposure of our entire athletic portfolio.

I almost hope that Indiana can get some of these in-state and nearby kids, just so they don't fall too far behind -- and start thinking about how (and which) other coaches are recruiting their territory. That deserves both a and a BTW -- what did you mean when you wrote If only soccer was more highly regarded, this could really help the exposure of our entire athletic portfolio.? It's the only thing I hear about on TV. Of course I only watch Fox Soccer Channel. I don't know.
jamesm7
My guess is we will not have a very large class this year. If it is large, don't believe it will have quite the star power the 09 class had simply because few players are graduating and zemanski is the only stater graduating. Ben Speas is more than capable of filling that role. The next year, blair, ampi and korb will graduate. 2010 defender perry kitchen will fill korb's void, 09 player scott caldwell can play for ampi or blair. That only leaves one starting position open in the next two years. Porter simply won't have the scholarship money to attract top level players next year. Thus, next year's will have a few great players and the year after will be a powerhouse.

However, you are ASSUMING that all our players will be around until they finish four years. For Ampai and Blair, that could be assuming more than we should. After the season, they will have a chance to be evaluated by MLS scouts. I have a feeling, as great as those two All-Americans to be are, that there will be no drop off when Scott Caldwell takes over for one in, I guess, central midfield.BTW -- Did you all know that Perry Kitchen will be the youngest athlete ever to sign a letter of intent? He was born on February 29, 1992 and has had just four birthdays!
